A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself.

              • Morning Trouble

Guys my bike is giving a hell lot of trouble to turn on in the cold(both in morning as well as night). Even the Choke option is of no help. The bike starts and as soon as i go off the throttle it shuts off. Its give a feeling like bike is having trouble to breathe or maintain the ignition spark. The idling RPM is set somewhere around 1.4-1.8 k. But as soon as bikes get heated up the rpm hovers around at 2.5-3k.

I have even tried richening the mixture high but still its of no use. Warming it up in standstill is not helping out. I have to keep it revving hard to be in ON state and once when it turns on and start moving as soon as i press the clutch to change gear it again shuts off so again i have to keep her revving hard while moving.
After some runin it comes to normal state.

Guys need help here as its is becoming very difficult to live with this.

Your idle jet is getting clogged, and you may have sediments in carb bowl.Ask your Mech to clean the carb

                    Thanks PSR for quick reply.

It may be the case but when bike is heated up it dont gives the problem while turning it on.
If the idling jet is clogged or there is sediments in Carb than the problem should be persistent both in hot and cold condition.

Although my bike has clocked 18.5k but i have never got the carb cleaned. May be the time has come for it.

Just few things, once you have achieved uniformity in strokes, make sure you guys arent hering any mis-firing.
Then rotate anti-clock wise to raise the blurring sound...........feels like heaven

                      Cheers

If it is totally clogged then you will have starting and idle problem in all condition. My guess is it is beginning to happen, and your carb is feeding LESS than the required amount of petrol, but not totally zero.

                        • Ownership review of an Apache RTR 180 perl white

Here I am reviewing one of my perl white TVS Apache RTR 180, its hot and ready to do fire in all cylinders or single may be .

                          Ride
Very pleasure to drive, always reminding you to go fast and makes you adrenaline rush on the road (please keep in mind the max speed on the kerala highways limited to 70km per hr/max) and easy to get the speed on 100kmph mark. I touched 100 with in 14seconds in a few tries.

                          Seating Comfort

RTR 180 is not suitable for long rides if you are slow rider, its bumpy to sit, and as a pillion, blindly say Apache RTR 180 not suitable for them especially if your not single .

                          Braking and Handling

Awesome braking with front and rear petal discs, Several times i have slowed down within 4-5m distance at almost 70kph, its almost perfect each time. That is one of the plus points of this bike.

                          Mileage

How can ride bike for mileage, in my case I am getting 35 to 40 and my speed above 70 most of times.

                          Maintenance

                          Pros

A power full bike to own, average maintenance and nice handling especially breaking.

                          Cons

Paint Quality is pathetic, my bike faded a lot, bumpy ride and not suitable for ladies.

                          Verdict

Very good bike to own and value for money too, but not if you needs better mileage.
                          Thanks,
                          Rakesh Narayanan

                          • Gear bearing gone kaput.

Guys today got the gear bearing of my bike changed.
Bike was making metal grinding sounds whenever i use to ride her in second gear. Checked in SVC and they said its the bearing in the gear which is broken.
Earlier they told me that it will changed under warranty and it the whole reparing thing wont cost me much. But later on when i went to collect her after two days they slapped me with a bill of Rs. 838.
And they were even trying to charge me for the bearing. After lot of head banging with them although they canncelled the price for the bearing but charged me for Clutch labour instead. So the equation came back to same as was earlier. Ten days back i spent Rs. 1224 on her in servicing and some part replacement and now this.

Its getting difficult to me to maintain her day by day as she is getting older.
She clocked 18.5k kms and 14 months old.

And guys i must tell you one thing as i have experienced, its very hard to claim the righteous warranty from the TVS SVCs, one can if he have the patience of keep bugging them for this.

Lets see what comes up next.

P.S: Could anybody please help me with the adjustment of the play in the front brake lever?

                            • hard to digest !

Thats really hard to digest 18.5K is not a very long run. What u are facing, do hell with SVC u can take care of ur machine almost by urself almost unless if it requires such a change of bearings...or so...........I maintained my old victor for nine years only twice the carburettor was opened....thats it.........no other alterations were required accept chanin sprokket and spark plug

Still i manage................find a local mechanic stand over his head and get the things done........spark plug air filter chain cleaning of gear box these all u can do it at ur home....SVC sucks they are hopeless
