        • Hey guys,

Don't know if this was mentioned by anyone - and either ways it is word-of-mouth with no specific declaration by Royal Enfield India except change in website.

It seems to push Bullet Classic and their new technologies such as UCE and twin-spark (the Thunerbird) and other stuff that they are doing to get technologically up to date....

...... it seems Machismo brand will be done away with. So no new Machismo 500/ 350 bikes from now on probably.

I believe this is indeed a good thing.
They are already a premium segment bike - Machismo is not too cheap even if compared to a Bullet Classic - anyone shelling out over a lakh for a bike would desire quality and reliability.

So the future is Bullet Classic and UCE and twinspark, etc.

Let's see how long Std 350 CI survives as the market for T-Bird twinspark and Machismo 500 is really strong outdoing CastIrons in all metros and are clearly visible on the road as well.

          HERE IS VISIBLE PROOF:
Royal Enfield Website - compare models page doesn't mention Machismo brand anymore:

              • Hi Prabhu,

First of all, a big congratulations for being amongst the first few to have booked the CL500.

It's nice to know that you were able to get your hands on one of these beauties for a test ride. I read the ride report & you seem to have tested the grip & brakes pretty good for a test ride.

I just wanted to know about how the suspension felt upon such hard braking. The query arises out of a concern which was shared by some friends who had gone on the Himalayan odyssey this year & happened to witness this classic getting tested there. There was some concern about the front suspension being stiff & not being able to absorb the hard braking too well (like in many modern day bikes where the front bows down a bit upon hard braking). I felt that if the suspension is still that stiff, then it should affect the grip during braking, especially those unexpected times when you really have to slam them.

Please keep us posted with respect to your experience on the test ride & also with your riding once you get your bike delivered.

                Thanks.

                Happy thumping,
                Prakhar

                • Guys,
Went to the showroom today. I will be buying a new bullet (CI engine). Choices were:
                  1. Standard
                  2. Electra 5S
After going to the showroom got a 3rd option
                  3. Standard Punjab Edition (1000 bucks more): same as Standard except for Seats and Handlebars, they are of Electra. (Company fitted)

Checked out Electra 5s, its good with TCI, Disc, Electric Start, 5 speed gear (left side).
Then checked the Standard. Now the best part, Kick Started the Standard (it was my first time) and then the sound was amazing and the decision was made.
Decided to go for Standard 350.

                  Will be booking this week

                    • Took a test ride of the CL-500..Almost threw me off with the monstrous torque! Looks neat. Though I havent ridden the RE much, but the few corners that I did with the 500, it seems to handle well.

Feel good factor and complete value for money especially with the EFI and all those sensors..

Its Rs 1L 27K OTR in Chandigarh + 1600 for the bent silencer (exchange amount). 35 bikes per model allocated to the city beautiful, in the first lot. Bookings open for the same, and the deliveries will begin from the 25th Nov
If I can manage that amount of cash, will surely go for the Maroon red 500! Would be fun to take it 'up a hill'

PS: Congratulations to all those that booked it!

I hope that info is correct.

Can you confirm that deliveries start from 25th November?

I have already booked the 500.In fact my dealer told me that I was the first to book it in Chandigarh. So that means that I would get it on 25th..

                          • Just saw the 500 and 350 classics at the Bandra showroom in Mumbai this weekend. Overall it doesn't look bad...a bit on the "smaller" size and the single seat puts the rider right on the tank and very far up front. Nice riding position for city strafing and I'd like to experience the bike first-hand but they weren't offering test-rides.

Build quality is less than satisfactory. The whole bike vibrates despite the refinement promised by the UCE engine...riding this over long distances at 100kph will be uncomfortable.

The worst part is that the EFi seems to have been added on as an afterthought. The whole Fi mechanism is out in the open and a total eyesore with wires sticking out. Very easy for meddling hands to pull out some critical wire and you'll be stranded. The bike I saw also had signs of rust on the fuel filter/pump under the tank on the left side and signs of rust on the brake disks.

Your suspension doesn't affect braking. In modern bikes the front end dives only because the suspension is softer than it should be (R15 etc.). It is setup soft to give you decent ride quality on our roads. Most track bikes are significantly stiffer and there isn't any "dive". Diving is an undesirable quality. Ideally you want the bike to remain level regardless of the braking force used.

Think about it this way - when you use the brakes, do you want to use the deceleration force to stop the bike? or do you want it getting wasted in compressing the suspension?
