As for scenarios when the estimate is more than total price of the bike. The bike is considered as a total loss and the owner would get the insured amount and the bike would be sold of as scrap by the insurance company.

This has been said earlier, Bajaj is making money not by selling the bikes, but through spares. So unless somebody comes up with a better business model for Bajaj, this is not going to change.

Exactly, I got a feeling this is why PBKs are built for, it's more of a autospare shop than a SVC. It started with the 220s and now for the Ninjas too...

Secondly, during every visit to service center I have seen a new accident vehicle there... so i'm guessing Bajaj is making good profit through spares/repair than the vehicle itself.
Finally if the repair cost is near (some % is there) the total cost of the bike, you pay a smaller (not sure how much) amount and you get a new bike through insurance...
As far as I know atleast 2 bike owners got this option and I heard one of them is still on bed with some serious injury.
But in general, initial estimate for Ninja accident would be almost certainly above 1L

Absolutely correct. For any accident claim, the service centre (not only bajaj) would put in all the parts they feel are affected by the accident because if they do not put it in the initial claim and later on find out that it needs replacement, won't get compensated. Another reason for this is because the initial claim has no real value. Only the insurance surveyor would survey damage and then approve / disapprove certain items. Then the cost of repairs is finally worked out.Originally posted by sukeshak View PostFirst of all, the initial estimate usually would be double the actuals since almost everything is put for change rather than repair. Again correct. If the repairs cost is more than 90% of IDV of your bike, it will be treated as total loss and you would be paid IDV (less standard deductibles). So don't worry about initial estimate of 4.5 lakhs.Originally posted by sukeshak View PostFinally if the repair cost is near (some % is there) the total cost of the bike, you pay a smaller (not sure how much) amount and you get a new bike through insurance...
If we assume that this bike is about 3 times costlier than any other normal bike, we should be mentally prepared to pay out at least 3 times the cost of spares of other normal bikes. Once we factor in this aspect, then the spares cost dosen't seem much higher.Originally posted by sukeshak View PostBut in general, initial estimate for Ninja accident would be almost certainly above 1L
Lastly, sum of all spares is always higher than the cost of vehicle. Otherwise, people would have bought spares and assembled vehicles. You are buying single items and hence the higher cost.
Disclaimer : I do not work either for Bajaj or any probiking service centre.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I agree with this philosophy of yours. If the product itself is expensive, the cost of spare parts have to be on a higher side.Originally posted by trustvishwas View Post

And the comparo thing, well, I just wanted to say that we have a premium bike, so premium spares and premium service (So faar........
). So the cost of everything is justified and the topic ends here......... I hope..........
P.S.- It's just been too much of GK (regarding the cost of the spares) for me............ I'd rather say, let's plan an all India Ninja owners meet...........
Unrealistic, but could be realistic too.

Correct. We should pay atleast 3 times for the spares. Even if its 5 times thats ok for a bike like ninja. But the problem is spares are morethan 10 times costlier. I think if we calculate the prices of all parts it will be over 6 lacsOriginally posted by trustvishwas View PostIf we assume that this bike is about 3 times costlier than any other normal bike, we should be mentally prepared to pay out at least 3 times the cost of spares of other normal bikes. HEY GUYS I GOT THE NINJA 250R ( BLACK ) say 6hrs ago!
And I am trying to get used to the new riding posture
and I just love the noise of the engine
IZZing sound is pretty impressive. Got the seat cowl it does add some extra bit of looks to the bike ( does make it more eye catchy ) and it sure is better in real when compared to all those pics that I saw online
And hope to share more and more experience riding this machine. And this is my 2nd ride. My 1st was an Yamaha FZ-S ( Silver-Red ) 2009.Motorcycling is like church...Many people participate, yet few understand. AMEN!!
