Better to get couple of used engine oil cans of 1 ltr each. They fit perfectly in saddlebag pouches and are absolutely spill proof.Originally posted by harikeshpk View Post
Absolutely not safe if you keep smoking around that bottle but fairly safe if you don't.Originally posted by GuRpReEt SiNgH View PostNever argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

yes the safest and cheapest are the pressurized soft drink bottles.(expensive alternatives may be available from chemical shops) buy a couple of coke/pepsi bottles drink the same and clean and use the bottles. ensure that the silicone washer inside the bottle cap is intact( means that while cleaning dont overdo the bottle cap inside portion).Originally posted by GuRpReEt SiNgH View PostThanks mate, is it safe to carry petrol in PET BOTTLES?
now the main thing petrol is highly inflammable. be cautious to leaks , proper capping etc. dont take your bags near a camp fire etc. but it is always better to carry petrol for at least a 100 kms range. esp for ninja which has a limited range with only about 250 to 270 kms on a tank full. before i forget .. there is no filter at the fuel filler inlet hole. so some caution there is required while filling petrol.Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

Dont fill from the bottle when it is windy as dust particles can enter the fuel tank.Originally posted by GuRpReEt SiNgH View PostThanks brother, can you please shed more light on this:-

Suggestion - cut the bottom part of a soft drink bottle (the plastic ones) and use that as a funnel while pouring petrol into the tank. All you have to do is insert the bottle neck first into the tank without the cap and pour fuel into the bottom of the bottle (which you have already sliced away). Guaranteed no spills

Thank you for the wishes guys
1800km on odo and 1st service done in 2months got the freedom to red line
I would luv to catch up with you guys in Bangalore for group rides but only on Friday/Saturday.
I have been cautious about several things on the road like dogs, cows and idiots. I had a surprising lesson on a sunday (I work on sundays... sigh...)
It was around 6:15am I was getting on the koramangala ring road from koramangala side, I never thought one bit that it would happen.
Surprisingly an eagle came very low and in front of me... due to split second reaction, it only hit it's wings on my helmet... pheew...
Don't know if the eagle liked the green color or it was an invitation for a drag race
So now I'm cautious about several things on the road
dogs, cows, eagles and idiots !!!
Accessories till now:- Full face helmet
- Riding gloves
- Cramster Breezer jacket
- Rim Tapes (bought online from US and applied it myself)
- Tank pad (bought online from US and applied it myself)
- Full face helmet (for wife)
Advice for bikers graduating from lighter Indian bikes to performance bikes like Ninja- Break-in period speed/rpm limit is a good thing, to get to know the bike better and polish your riding skills
- Ninja 250R in the lower rpm range makes you feel like a low end bike, specially during break-in period but don't forget it's a performance bike and demands respect.
- Ninja 250R makes you feel very confident from riding perspective maybe due to it's lower rider height
- Get a full face helmet for pillion rider, if they are going to ride with you frequently (Wife/GF/friend whoever)
- One side head light is ON because it's easy for the vehicle in the front to spot us through their rear view mirrors.
TIP: If your odo panel light is not working make sure to check brake light as well. If the fuse goes off for odo panel, your brake light also won't work since it has a common fuse. Fuse is located under rider seat.
Respect yours & others life and enjoy, Life happens only once!

waiting for the ride report.. and keep your radiator clean in the hills. means that take a soft brush and clean if required using drinking water( when the radiator has cooled down). i had taken my ninja up minor hills like yercaud and yelagiri non stop in summer from start to finish. the temp scale will be slightly on the high. that's all. our baby just keeps going.Originally posted by GuRpReEt SiNgH View PostThanks mate!

and while cleaning the radiator clean it in vertical strokes and not horizontal as it can damage the radiator's fins (as told by n_aditya a loooong time agoOriginally posted by harikeshpk View Postmeans that take a soft brush and clean if required using drinking water( when the radiator has cooled down).

I would strongly advise against carrying petrol in pet bottles unless its an emergency. For one, the petrol is highly inflammable and the pet bottles are not thermally insulated. means they can get hot in the sun. Even if your pet bottles are air tight, vapours can form inside the bottles which would have a lower ignition temperature than the liquid itself.Originally posted by GuRpReEt SiNgH View PostThanks mate, is it safe to carry petrol in PET BOTTLES?
Plus, I think it is illegal as well, as most petrol pumps in Navi Mumbai have stopped giving petrol to motorists in soda bottles.
This wouldn't have been an issue if it was diesel we were talking about.Last edited by toolkit; 07-05-2011, 09:59 PM.

kidding right? my Ninja gives me an average of 25-26 in city limits and almost 28 on the highway, a full tank gives over 400km range easily for meOriginally posted by harikeshpk View Postbut it is always better to carry petrol for at least a 100 kms range. esp for ninja which has a limited range with only about 250 to 270 kms on a tank full.

Needless to say I started searching for a fuel station when the low light came on at 380.
