  • Hi Guys,

I am S.P.Ditto, New to this site. I bought my first bike [ Pulsar 135 cc ]last month on 18th Jan 2010. I am in chennai, working as a Software Engineer in HCL Technologies. Since i am going to office daily i used to ride some 40 to 50 Kms. So till today i have crossed 1900 Kms totally. I think by tomorrow evening i will cross 2000 Kms. Till the first service i drive the bike in minimal speed of 50Km/hr at that time it gave the milage of above 60 KM.

I finished the first service of the bike last week, after that i am driving at the speed of 60 to 70 Km/hr now it is giving the milage of around 55 KM. The bike is simply superb. The pickup is too good which i never saw in any of other Pulsars like 150 or 180. Since the bike is light weight and turning radius of the bike is less, I could easily cut off the Chennai traffic and move ahead. Before buying i thought too much whether to buy this bike or not. But now I am telling it is the best bike to all type of people. It has good style, good mileage, good Pickup etc.... worth for the money we spend.

Before two days I travelled from Chennai to Vellore ( 145 Kms totally). At that time i tried to drive the bike to its full speed. To my wonder i could attain 115 KM to the max ( I have taken the photo of my speedo meter also which you can find it in my album ), I think it will go beyond that also but I didn't try it, with 115 KM itself i reduced the speed. Only after crossing 80 Kms there was some Vibrations but after Crossing 90 Kms there was no viberation in the bike.

      Congratz for your new bike.
2000 kms on ODO within one month of purchase is quite impressive.
Anyways, I could complete just 600 kms within one month of purchase.
Good to know that, you touched 115 kmph on your bike. I had touched 98 kmph on NH-2 with one of my friends as pillion.
Regarding mileage, when I used to ride within 40-50 kmph with occasional short bursts till 60 kmph, I got 53 kmpl. Now, with riding within 50-60 kmph with occasional short bursts till 80 kmph, I am getting 50 kmpl.

      • But my Baby pulsar returned only 43, driven very sanely. May be I use clutch a lot. Today had a third puncture in the rear wheel, man 1 month old vehicle and 3 punctures in total. The bill was 200, 80 for tire patch and 120 for 6 puncture due to riding bike with the nail. Man seriously thinking to upgrade to a tubeless.
        What say.....

43 in unbelievably low that too with sane riding. 3 punctures within 1 month of purchase, this too is very unfortunate. Maybe, you have been riding in roads full of nails . Upgrading to Tubeless tyres is indeed a very good idea. Even I am thinking of the same though I haven't yet experienced a puncture.

          • dude, 43 is too low. I think you should change your riding style. If you ride below 50Km/hr means surely you will get around 60. Even yesterday i checked with my bike i am getting 55 to 57 as mileage, that too i am riding at the speed of 60 to 70. I am driving in OMR road in chennai which is well know for its traffic because most of the IT Companies are located in that road only. By riding in that road itself i am getting above 55 mileage. Mostly use ordinary petrol itself instead of any other petrol ( like speed, or something else ).

Today i crossed 2000 KMs, today end of the day my ODO reading is 2007 KM.

Actually, i filled 4 lits in my bike, re-seted trip and drove till the last drop. (Had to push the vehicle till petrol pump). The trip was showing 170 after empty tank, so 170/4 = 42.5. But today saw only 1.6 l of reserve was usable so 4-2.5= 1.5 in normal mode and 1.6 in reserve, so 1.5+1.6 = 3.1. So now 170/3.1 = 54.8.
But now my question is I shook the vehicle after it stopped but there was no noise indicating no petrol, so where does that 0.9l go if not used.

Thats fine, so you are also getting around 55. Then about your question., I too don't know the answer for that . Can someone could explain regarding this .

I also can't say anything in this matter as I have never run my bike till last drop of usable fuel. I usually re-fuel within 50 kms after reserve.
Probably, some senior member here can throw some light in this matter.

Try filling in 2 PSI more air in your tyres than the recommended. I used to face same problem in my car. Than i started filling in 2 PSI more than recommended and not i get only 1-2 punctures in a year.

                    • Upgraded my oil to CASTROL ACTIV XTRA 20w50, the bike's engine now seems to struggle a lot lesser but now during gear change the noise has increased. My obs was that even after being hot the mobil1 was extremely Viscous compared to CASTROL. Can I use my drained oil in 4 wheelers, as it was used only for 200 km.

                      • hi!
Now i am pissed of because of engine oil leak(earlier mentioned in this thread)
i went to svc 3 times and they failed to rectify the problem they tried screw tightening, replacing seal etc but no use then i saw a platina 125cc dtsi it also have the same engine(p135 is re-bored to 135cc and have a 4valve head. i thought p135 have a new engine). but they engine had no oil leak not even a drop of it and it was used 4000kms after last service. then checked out couple more none had the problem.
then why just p135's suffering from engine oil leaks?

Sorry to hear about that. But, it might be the case with your bike only or few other also. But, in my bike, there is no engine oil leak. Also, I have seen 3-4 more P135LS in my city and neither of them is having engine oil leak issue.
You should send a complaint e-mail to Bajaj customer care and get your problem rectified.

                          • I got my bike serviced this week. The service center guys told they use the exact oil mentioned in the manual ' Bajaj DTS-i 10000 ' . So i didnt bother to buy a different oil. But to my surprise when I went to collect the bike I saw big cylinders of Veedol oil. I asked them is that the oil used and they said yes. The explanation they gave was that , that was the oil sent to them straight from the company.

Also I also noticed the oil leak problem when i got home. When i checked the oil level i found that it was touching the maximum level mark. Oil leak was there for 2 days. After that it stopped on its own.

The engine is smooth and gear shifting is also okie. There was slight alignment issue with the rear tire and seat but they corrected it. Noise from back suspension was also corrected.

I am getting mileage around 63. I ride in the 40-50 range.
