Ouch thats a lot of depreciation, I was under the impression that RTR would probably have a good resale but it seems its like the Pulsar

TVS never had a good resale value! i was quoted 35k for my 20 month old RTR and 23k for my 86 month old HH Splendor

trust me...u'll miss the true fun of RTR even if you go a little bit higher in profile like me.

Rode a RTR with stock tyre yesterday and now am cursing why did i go for a Higher profile. but hey i has made the gearing taller now i get 70kmph at 5k rpm
hmm, i've checked and there is no 80 profile Q in 100\110 section, only in 120\130.

further analysis of the mrf brochure reveals why the geo seemed squashed on the alloys.

2.50" tyres are recommended for use on 1.6" rims, 2.75 and 3.00" need 1.85" rims and 90/90 need 2.15" rims. Now the 100 and 110 section tyres are to be used on 2.5" rims. which is why the geo looks more curved than it's supposed to be on 2.15" rear alloys.

ok, please confirm about the 80 profile Q. i was at the tyre dealer's just 4-5 days ago and he didn't have any such size and neither does the mrf brochure. if i could have got an 80 profile 100 or 110 in 18" i would have fit it long ago.

anyone know the r-15 rim widths? nothing on the site.

well i was thinking to opt 18" with low pro's...but heck this zapper Q is not available in 80...

and brother the best rear tyre is Q for sure i had it in my fiero and it's performance is pretty good....but it's only in 100/90 spec not even 110/90

Damn thats a shocker for me, I was somehow under impression that RTR will hold its value better. Looks like I need to sell her earlier than I thought

Just for info- I sold my 2 years/13.5k old ZMA for 53k & I had bought it for 76,xxx

well, if you can afford the 4.5k minus whatever you get for your old 18" then go for the 180's 17". of course, vehicle dynamics will change; slight weight transfer to the rear, plus gearing, but that can be corrected with a front sprocket change.

hmm, a lot of people are recommending the q, and while i'm not sure about the grip provided by the tread pattern even though it looks the best among all indian tyres, the compound does seem super sticky. i'm a big fan of the geo because of it's tread; you won't believe the things we've been through on the cbz. of course, that bike was planted like an oak tree too. and the geo last for like forever too, while still maintaining grip levels. anyways, one positive i see with the 100/90 Q is that the slightly higher profile will probably increase the front bias; these days i feel the rtr needed more weight on the front tyre, riding position not sporty enough! plus the taller geared effect will mean i don't have to try out a taller front sprocket.

i dont think i'll get a good deal for the old rim and for 4.5 i'll get that R15's front anf Q for the rear....
i'll do the tyre swap in 1-2 months...

go for the Q it's the best thing...
i dont know much about the geo though...
though Q wont last reall long but the grip levels it provides are awesome, and yes like you mentioned it's super sticky too....(at the same time the tread pattern looks sexy)

and Sir dont tell me you're gettin bored with RTR's ridin position....

                      • I have done approx 4K kms on my RTR refresh RD... and the rear brake has become weak ..the svc guy told me that the approx life of rear disk pads is around 5K kms.. is that true?Do the rear disk pads wear out so faster? If so then i might have to replace my rear disk pads at 5k kms...

The mechanic is Wrong, Weakness may be due to non proper maintenance like washing the dust gathered in the brake although self cleaning is the basic problem of disc brakes.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

Depends on how much u were using ur rear disc! A rear disc pad wears out faster than the front.

                              • Regarding the Zapper Q 100/90 and in general higher profile tire - I had 160 FI and I changed the rear tire to Zapper Q 100/90. While the grip is really good, the higher profile (from 100/80 to 100/90, which is 1cm higher) messed up the overall balance, stability and handling of the bike that I really regretted changing the tire.
Zapper Q is a really good tire, but it was the higher profile that spoiled the handling of the bike.
So much so, that when the 180 appeared I sold my FI and bought the 180, not because of power increase (which is marginal in higher RPMs comparing to FI, but quite noticeable in lower RPMs) but mostly because of better handling and stability. The difference between 160 and 180 is very obvious, especially in cornering - 180 is so much more stable and confidence inspiring. Still, the lousy TVS tires remain THE weak spot for any faster riding...

So, I would really recommend people NOT to go for any higher profile tire than stock 100/80, even if a tire has an amazing grip - the handling (and also pickup) will suffer.

However, if you are just commuting or doing easy riding (which is definitely not a character of RTR) then changing to a higher profile rear tire shouldn't be a problem - in that case a good grip is more important, especially in wet conditions. Zapper Q 100/90 is a very good choice.

When I was changing that tire there WAS Zapper Q 100/80-18 available. It was on MRF's website. However, I bought the 100/90 when all the dealers told me they don't have 100/80 in stock, and it would take long time to get it. So I went for 100/90... Grip improved very much, but handling and pickup went downhill... Top speed didn't increase at all, btw.
