  • Thats not a head seal problem man. Its just that the paste between the tappet cover and cylinder head gets weak.
This is only a little bit of oil trace. Just wipe it away man.
Only if its leaking too much, u need to just remove the cover...put a fresh coat of threebond and tighten again.
I've put back my Fiero/RTR engine some 1500 times.

Sorry for the wrong use of words, I too meant the same. The sealant for the black cover is leaking!!!

coming from you joels ...thats assuring....

and yeah..those 3 pipes from the air box...could you explain the smaller pipes?

        Thanks apar and satish....

        @apar,

the tyre is a great all rounder and good cornering too...if you are upgrading your 'brothers' rtr's tyre.I would suggest you go for mrf zapper q...but don immediately go for the new rubber...use the stock ones for sometime and then jump to any conclusion...

Follow those pipes and see where they are going. Trust me man, u need to get your hands dirty to learn about your bike. No shortcuts.
I never learnt all of this using Internet and xbhp. Do your homework. You come back to me after checking. Its no rocket science.

Clue : They are resonance pipes from the airbox.

          • Some one help
My Apache RTR Refresh is not in good shape as of now the engine always keeps on making tickling sound (Tappet sound) the mechanics say its normal the sound never vanishes and now the bike has started to vibrate very much after the 4th free service.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

              • What a timing Sai I was gonna ask if some one has put A Dunlop Geocruiser on an RTR

Did you find any significant difference ?

Please let me know I have the Geo on my P150 which has run some 5-7k wonly so I might exchange the tyres before selling the bike (the p150 i.e )

vibes are the part of this machine........
they'll get smoothen out if you'll be puttin synth oil (power 1 racing)....
but still it'll be givin out vibes that shows it's raw nature......

as far as the ticklin is concerned the bike do comes with a loose tappet setting from the company itself..........

nice to know.... the geo cruiser is on my Apache and not the RTR.. The tyre as everybody knows is brilliant on all surfaces.....the difference is huge between the stock tyres and the Geo when you are on gravel/wet/slightly wet surfaces......and the cornering is also good enough for an amateur like me...

u could very well go ahead and exchange the tyres in your bikes....even my bro might be changing his rtr's tyre to the geo cruiser....

                      • hello guys ..
I am seriously thinking to buy RTR 160 FI ..
Can previous proud owners highlight top problems with the bike, which can or can't be rectified .. mainly about:

                        -- FI servicing
                        -- special oil/petrol care
                        -- vibes?
                        -- tyres

                        + any other

One more thing ... read in a paper on 10th dec -- that TVS has reduced prices with 700-2000. Can anybody confirm this? or can tell me OTR price for FI in BLR who has bought recently? For me they quaoted ~75k.

                        • At a certain RPM u will feel tat there is no supply of fuel...bike gives weird jerks wen ridden sedately...but if ur blasting dont worry u can hear only the mean sounding exhaust..
2.engine makes a lot of noise..specifically tappet noise svc guys told it is like tat and cant be sorted out...
3.sometimes 2nd and 3rd gear upshifting becomes tricky...even after upshift it will go to false neutral...scary sometimes....

Apart from this bike is really very good...amazing power delivery...these are a few things u dont have to worry if u buy a rtr-fi....

                          cheers.

This is already taken care of by the company...all SVC has been given manual to rectify it during service.

how dare u complain abt the tappet??? thats the character of RTR

This is new to me.....i never had this problem in my 21k kms of riding my RTR

Apart from this...the usual problem are the Vibes and the frocking tyre!

But these can be taken care by shifting to synthetic oil and other tyres!
