Your stock bulb is of H4 35/35w. You can use Philips Premium one of 35w. But more luminous bulb have shorter life. If u go for 60w then your stator should be powerful enough to power a 60w bulb. 35w bulb require 3 amps whereas 60w will require 5 amps.

            • Riding Postion on RTR 160 2012 model - Change of Handle Bars

              Hi Guys,
I am riding the new RTR 160 (refresh 2012) for the last 2 months. 1200Kms on the ODO.
Before buying the Bike i was little worried with the Riding Position and was not Happy with the Low clip on Handles.

Now after 2 months i am feeling pain in my shoulder and wrist. I am travelling 40kms daily. Tried different position but the pressure on the wrist is more during braking Front or Rear.
              Q's:
              1. Have any other bikers have the same issue ? what is the remedy ?

              2. Can the Clip on handle be raised to a higher level with some retro/Juggad adjustment ? Has anybody tried it ? details pls.

              3. Last resort, can the Handle bar be replaced with a Pulsar or FZ one ? possible ?

Clips ons cannot be raised. If you do so with jugaad you might need to compromise on handling of your bike. I suggest not to modify.
You can fit FZ handlebars or any other one, but I suggest Apache 150 handle bar as it will require less modifications and may be a direct fit.

                  • Ceat & Dunlop both are good brands to go for.
I asked one of my known tyre retailer to tell me how can i find if the tube is genuine or fake.
So i would like to share to u that, he says....
That you cant tell just by looking its packing whether it is genuine or fake. He said, you need to check its quality and find by your own. The fake tubes have thinner rubber, you can feel by your hands and its more stretchable than the original one. Original tubes are thicker, and when u smell it, u'll fine no smell at all in genuine one. If u find odor that means its fake.
One should know this. If u mistakenly buy the fake one it will not last at all.

But normally these tubes will be packed, right?
So the problem is they wont allow to open it unless you are going to buy it.

By the way guys I saw this HID in e-bay for apache

Anyone has tried this. As it is 35W I hope no need to make so much modifications for fitting this.
                      Also is this legal??
                      Its quoted 1300k+.
Will it be really helpful for night riding especially in highways?
Do I need to make specific changes to headlamp assembly. I mean its reflectors & body covering, because normally HID produce immense heat, so will it cause any damage.

Is there any specification for the tubes like the front tires are (90 / 90 x 17").
So it has separate tube specific for that size, right?
I mean minor changes wont take a toll, right?

Right now the problem I'm suffering is the air front tires reduces by one week.
I asked the local mechanic & he said the tubes might be the culprit & its not puncture.
Anyway didn't get time to check as was late to office so filled it up.
                      If possible will check today.

A good experienced puncture wala can tell just by looking the tube, if its needs to replace not. Mainly u'll see a cracks marks on the tube. Inspect it carefully when u stretch it in 3-4 areas, u'll see cracks/damage
Well AC Hid's are more reliable and last longer than DC one. It comes with a kit that converts DC to AC (for cars mainly). If u search on google u'll find numerous websites that says one should buy AC Hid kit.

1300k doesn't means it will have lower light intensity. 3000-5000K will get you a yellow-to-white light, while a high color temperature of 10000-12000K will get you a purple-to-blue light. The color temperatures have absolutely nothing to do with lighting intensity. A 3000K yellow HID light is just as bright as a 12000K blue HID light.

But personally, I don't like white color of headlight because there are many disadvantages of that. I've seen many Hid's going on road in my city, they look better, have nice luminous but i still like my stock yellow light better because human eyes can identify things more faster & better way in our yellow stock light. If Hid would have come in same color like stock one then i'd surely have think to install it.

Have u ever consider why companies are still providing with yellow bulb? Even if Hid comes in a legal way.
I dont want to argue and dnt want to spoil your interest but whatever i've written is my opinion. And one should know its disadvantages before considering for hid installment.

One man Daniel Stern has given his very nice opinion on HID and on other bulbs also in this link Daniel Stern Lighting

you may or may not like it, but somewhere it will clear your doubts about Hid in Highway driving.

While driving on road if u find any vehicle with hid then try to see if its luminous really have better visibility to u. If u found better then go for it. You'll find some pictures on google to, but that is not going to show u real picture compare to when u are actually on road. Actual pic cannot see on google because picture light, exposure, brightness is depend on what type of camera is used and its Aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings. Don't Believe? Take out your Digital Camera and try to take a actual picture of moon

                          • 2012 Apache series RTR 160

                            Hi all...
This is my 3000km ownership experience on Apache series RTR. The new beast themed 2012 model really rocks...!! The day time running headlamps are awesome. Looks stunning especially during evening...!! There is not much upgrade in the engine performance of apache series rtr160. But with 15.2 BHP and 14NM torque, the engine is a rev happy one. You can easily beat other 150 cc bikes in this segment like the fz or unicorn in a drag race..... ( its all because of its 0-60kmph in 5-6 seconds...i cud do it in 5.3 sec..!!). Apache has that 0-60kmph timer in it..its really useful!!
TVS has worked on the overall dynamics of the bike..! looks more sportier, handles exceptionally well....and seating position is sporty; the back pain problem has been vanished in this 2012 version...!!!
The vibrations in this engine is not that huge as in that of the 180cc version of this... U mite feel a slight vibration b/w 5k to 6k RPM ..thats all....

Some pros and cons according to my experience are..:
                            Cons...
                            1) Vibration at 5k to 6k rpm..but can be ignored!! not so irritating..
                            2) Gear box needs more refinement...its better than old apache..but clutch and gear can be improved.....False gearing occurs sometimes when u r in low rpms..!!
                            PROS:
                            1) superb acceleration and top speed...i ve clocked 134KMPH with RTR 160 in nice road, bangalore...( u ve to lean forward to attain this speed..!!)
                            2) Handles well in city ....
                            3) good mileage...used to give 42kmpl till 2nd service...now i get an exceptional 52kmpl in city...mite get close to 56 in highway i guess..
                            4) Breaking is excellent with front petal disc breaks..
                            5) looks stunning...( this can vary with different individuals...!!)

Thanks for the info yaar...Btw now I have put hold on this HID project after going through that link.
Maybe I feel its better to go for Osram or philips extreme bulb rather than HIDs..
But the problem is I require 35w bulb. I dont want change the stock settings.

Dude you are getting 52 kmpl
Goodness gracious I'm getting just 40kmpl in bangalore city traffic. I ride through koramanagala->Agara->Outer ring road->Marathahalli.
Yeah I'm bit rough on the bike when it comes to riding. But still 52kmpl is something I will get only in my dreams..
Please check if you are running lean. It will spoil your engine. By the way I need to check if Im running rich.

@ALL Well folks I have doubt here. Will a TPS which doesnt function perfectly effect the mileage of the bike.
I feel a bit lag in low gear RPMs. I mean if you are riding in low gear in say some 3k rpm constantly I feel some lagging, I mean speed is fluctuating.
My bike is about to reach 2 years this Dec 3rd. WIll give my last free service. Any points to be noted or changed or specified during that time.
I have crossed 18k in ODO.
