  • Re: Apache RTR 160/FI

Hi there, anyone interested in a short bike trip to Maklidurg (Bangalore). This is just a fun ride and maybe a few clicks. Not planning to trek there but maybe looking at a few off roading option. Looking at an opportunity to meet other fellow bikers. Will be leaving by 5.am and hoping catch some sunrise at Maklidurg. If anyone interested meeting point will be Hebbal Flyover towards Airport. I know its a little late posting it here. Text me on 9663301090 if anyone wants in.

    • Plz help me

Hi , I recently purchased the tvs apache rtr 160 instead of fz v 2.0 mainly because of its eyes aka headlights . Now I am encountering a serious problem . Its been a week since I have this bike and its giving me a mileage below 10 km/lt :banghead: , I do not drive insane infact I make it a point to drive below 45km/hr untill the first 1000 km .
I've driven 27 kms so far and the bike has already drank 4 litres of petrol , I dont know what the problem is , and no the fuel is not leaking from the fuel cock . Should I wait for the first servicing or should I visit a mechanic . What to do ??

You calculated fuel efficiency on the basis of 27kms? How exactly did you calculate? Because most showrooms sell a bike with a near empty fuel tank. The first time you fill 2-3 ltrs you would have just crossed the reserve mark. And then you would reserve again, throwing your calculations out of the window.

Full Tank it, ride for 100 km and then full tank it again and then calculate the fuel consumed.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Hmm...... point taken , but even if lets say 2 ltrs has been reserved in the tank then how can you explain it consuming 4-2 I.e. 2 litres for just 27 kms . I am sure even that is pretty low , isn't it ??

First check using the method i mentioned above. Then you can see if there is anything to worry about.

              • TVS Apache Help required asap

There are two tricky questions i would like to ask everyone interested to reply.

                SO here they are:

                1. I have clocked 32k on my apache rtr160 and it's a 2011 purchase. The problem i am facing is that the bike runs fine on plain surfave but as soon as an incline comes be it a bridge or terrain i am having an instant speed fall of almost 10kph which i feel is not right. The engine is also giving me a coked feeling (aitha hua).

So what seems to be the problem? Is it the flywheel or cutch? Or is the cylinder?

And shall i get an engine overaul?

                2. We all know that TVS made out fuel injected versions for a while and i am thinking of coverting to it for a little more power but i am still worried as a friend was adamant that if it goes wrong while on trips we will be stranded in nowhere. The service centre assures of the conversion but does not take gaurantee of failure and being stranded on mountains or deserts or roads aswell.

Please suggest me on these two.

                  The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                    1. From what you have described, clutch looks the likely culprit.

                    2. You will barely get any additional power (if at all) from converting it to Fi. Keep it stock.

                      • Apache rtr engine overheat after oil change

                        Hi All,

I own Apache RTR 160 and have completed 8000 kms. Till date I was using the TVS engine oil. As i felt lot of vibrations on top gear and after reading lot of discussion on the same, i wanted to give it a shot by changing the engine oil. I changed the engine oil to Shell AX7 10W40 semi synthetic.

After the oil change, i am facing engine over heat issue. I can feel the heat all the way up to the tank. The overheating is only after i changed the oil. Never i have experienced it before.

Can you please suggest a solution for the issue ?

Check oil level, maybe you are running lean (check the spark plug condition for this).

Do you ride in city traffic or highway? In city traffic, the heat will be felt to some extent.

                            Cheerz!!

Isn't the stock oil grade 20w50? If yes, that explains the issue!

Yes i do travel in city traffic. But this heat i am feeling, its only after the oil change. Never have felt so much heat before the oil change.

I think the stock is 10w30. Experts can correct me.
