BTW, I enquired a dealer today morning over phone and he is like "They are 2 different speedometers for 2 different bikes! FI's speedo just cannot be brought onto a carb bike!!"
Is this thing that technical or is it just me?!

yap the two consoles are partly different b'cos of addition of fuel pump malfunction indicator. RTR 180 has blue back lit console, but with same functions as of RTR 160. Why dont you go for RTR-180?

You mean CDI and high tension coil right, does this control the igination timings.

The CDI takes input from magneto for crank position and manages spark duration and time. on more throttle, longer is spark duration and advanced timing (power mode). and even if coil is giving out lesser voltage, same problem may occur.

          • @imemyself: Its probably got to do with the warranty of the console unit. Remember the problems with the console, and if it conks off ur left high and dry!! U can get a replacement.

            • Tweaked the SVC again for the sticker and they said I can get the RTR one for 50 bucks but I insisted on the Fi one and they placed the order for the Fi emblem sticker.I think(I hope so) the Fi sticker would be available coz it was in the parts book.

what could be the possible reason for that..?????
and should i take my bike to asc or is it absolutely fine...????
                my bike has done 1620kms
Its absolutely fine It happens due to vibes in the Apache RTR, I had a GF 125 this happened to GF too the Gearbox was stuck in 1st and 2nd gear not upshifting to higher gears. A nut from the gearbox itself was loose and in side the box i took it to the service center and bike was fine so no need to worry.

most manufacturers have even the tiniest parts available separately. and this fact is confirmed by a quick peek in the parts manual. if anyone refuses to order a small part, demand to see if it has a separate part number in the book. mostly they're just too lazy to place an order for small things. best way to get around this is to ask the dealer to do it, provided you have a good relationship with him.

Well, i would agree with you in that the rtr makes more sense to buy than the fi today, but the biggest reason for my buying the fi was the blue lcd. no jokes. fi, better exhaust, rear disc (which i didn't want anyway) and all the other crap came after that. i just hate amber displays. it is better than pulsar orange though. so if you really want it that bad, do as renny said above and buy the fi!

and yes, the fi probably has a different ignition system than the rtr, but i seriously doubt that you would have any major issues using the fi's console on the rtr. the showroom/svc guys probably dont want to take the trouble, plus they will have to answer to higher ups if aked why they said its ok to use the fi's unit. also, there's no reason why the warranty on the rest of the bike would void just because you changed the damn speedo, but to be sure ask satish !

what i would do in your place would be to try and get a decent buyback price for the stock console (probably at the same place you buy the fi's and MOST probably not the dealer you're buying the bike from). just dont expect the dealer to be very helpful in this regard just because you're buying the bike from him.

there are people on this very forum who've had dealers buybakc new, stock tyres and give a different brand but i've also seen many dealers refuse even that minor change. so dont other asking your dealer reg. the console.

Hmmm... I shall enquire him about this buyback policy of his. Are you sure that even speedo console comes under this buyback??

Thanks for your suggestion nox. But I gave it some thought. RTR 160 suits me fine.. Am not in any power struggle you see!
Besides am playing it safe with the 160. Still apprehensive about the niggles of the RTR180 that's why... I don't mean anything offensive in that though.
                    Cheers!

                      • ^^ In simple words he said tht the RTR console is prone to many problems and many ppl have changed it under warrenty , so if u change ur console then it will void ur warrenty and then if it has any prbs , u need to pull out money from ur own pocket.

i also suggest u stick to the given console atleast till warrenty is over then change it

LOL! there is no buyback 'policy'. what i meant is try to work out a deal with the spare parts dealer (either local market or tvs spares dealer) and see if he will give you something for the console you remove from your bike when you buy the fi's console from him. i also meant to say that the dealer from whom you buy the bike will NOT give you an fi's console when you buy the bike, so dont expect that. you will have to buy the fi's console AFTER you buy the bike and then ask the seller to buy your old rtr console.

i would say if he gives you half the market price of the rtr console then it's a pretty decent deal.

about the 180, i would say if money is not a big problem then go for it. it should be a much better bike than the 160s.

part of the reason for the 160's excessive vibes is that its a short-stroke, moderate-to-highly stressed, single cylinder engine tuned to put out quite a bit of power for it's capacity. this is inherent to the design and cannot be corrected other than by major changes to the engine.

tvs HAD to do something about it in order to retain brand image and customer base and the best and most logical way was to come out with a new bike which solves the issues right at the design phase. presenting the 180.

                            • Ridin in the rain ...

The rains have finally hit bombay and the weather is just perfect. I'm a big fan of riding in the rain. Took the bike out for a spin yesterday after a week or so and in the lane just out of my gate there is this speedbreaker where i usually brake hard to get them up to temp. guess there was a bit of gunk on the tyres after standing so long and the rear started to fishtail ever so slightly. but after the tyre was cleaner from riding around a bit, not much of a problem with braking. not that i use the rear much anyway. but there is a noticeable lack of traction which leads to lack of confidence when taking turns fast. about time i changed the damn tyre, its been 10k on the odo already. how the miles/time fly.

anyways, this has been asked earlier with no 100% replies, can the 180's rear wheel be fitted to the 160rd/fi ? the 17" brings with it a whole lot of options for tyres including the delicious r-15 rear. anyone ? anyone ?

p.s. get out there and ride guys ! it's the best weather for the rtr. free water-cooling for that overheated engine !
