If you would look at your manual it would tell you how to check for pad wear. basically, if the pads have worn down so much that you can't see the grooves anymore, it's time for a change. There is no way to tell pad life by looking at an odometer. If the pads still have bite left in them, you would need to check the brake fluid, probably flush and refill. also check the disc for excessive wear (yes it happens) and the face being out.Originally posted by bikerboysyd View Post
Would you be kind enough to elaborate exactly what about the handling changed for the worse? I'm not really convinced that a 10mm increase in tyre profile could make such a huge difference, i'm sure it has more to do with the tyre design, such as tread pattern and cornering grip. also, rather than change the fi for a 180, even if not only for the better handling, couldn't you have got the 80 profile Q and stuck with it?Originally posted by splus View PostLast edited by julianpaul; 09-24-2009, 11:42 PM.

Ride a RTR with a 100/90 sec tyre for abt 100kms and then ride a RTR with a stock tyre......you'll know the diffOriginally posted by julianpaul View PostWould you be kind enough to elaborate exactly what about the handling changed for the worse? @renny and others contemplating tyre changes
one thing left unconsidered is that if you do fit the 17" wheel, the r15 rear is a radial, which makes it a million times better than any Q or C or Geo out there. I'm gonna wait and save for the 17" alloy esp after hearing how the 90 profiles mess up handling.

Well, that was exactly my thinking before I did it - 1cm can't change things much, it's only 1cm. But the difference was surprisingly big...Originally posted by julianpaul View PostWould you be kind enough to elaborate exactly what about the handling changed for the worse? Amongst other things it felt like the rear went up, rider went up, so the gravity point went up. It means the angle of the weight to the front wheel changed, which is already not balanced due to 17 inch front and 18 inch rear wheels.
I have to say that my very first riding experience with stock 160 was that its handling felt a bit deceptive - the front was amazingly easy to handle, which gave the initial impression that the entire bike handles with ease. But after riding for few more kms it was clear that the rear was much less flickable, heavier, bigger.
The bike felt as if it has light front but heavy ass, like the front is little lower than the rear, the horizontal axis of the bike wasn't quite right.
So, putting the higher profile rear tire made things even worse.
Cornering also felt less stable. It was a funny mix - the new Zapper Q tire was giving more grip than the stock tire but the stability of the bike was worse.
I had R15 before it, whose handling is simply perfect, so all this is kind of comparing to it...
I think 160 would have MUCH better handling if it is fitted with 17 inch wheel.
I couldn't find the 100/80 tire (there is Zapper Q 100/80 on MRF's website, but only God knows if MRF is producing/selling it at all), and then I thought of changing the entire rear wheel, to take 180's 17 inch wheel. But then there was a problem in getting that wheel due to poor availability of 180 bikes, let alone spare parts, and the whole thing also wasn't that cheap, so at the end I thought better to go for the finished package than to mess with changing the wheel, sprocket, and who knows how it would all turn out to be...

the rear pads will last you comfortably till 15000 kms dont worry and like julian said u can see and check the "juice" in the pads by the braking performance of the brake....Originally posted by bikerboysyd View PostI have done approx 4K kms on my RTR refresh RD... and the rear brake has become weak ..the svc guy told me that the approx life of rear disk pads is around 5K kms.. is that true?Do the rear disk pads wear out so faster? If so then i might have to replace my rear disk pads at 5k kms...

Say hello to "MISSING"..............!!!!!!!
The new Silver Injectors I'm running with gifted me with the signature of RTR FI yesterday....
but the strange thing was the bike showed it's signature missing when it was cold,(the old black injector used to do the same when the bike was "hot") and the moment the bike completed 5 kms all vanished....
though it happened for the first time since the injector change,m keeping my fingers crossed...
P.S:
no missing was there in high RPMs (read above 7000) and it showed missing till 3000 only, and the smoothness is retained. The Magician"

Silver Injectors
Hello , am using stock injectors but did u felt any change in pickup/power . Even am facing same Problem misfire but bike is doing fine. i get mileage of 45-48 after ripping and 48-51kmpl on normal riding . So do i need to change my injectors and is it under warranty .Originally posted by rennycornelius View PostThe new Silver Injectors I'm running with gifted me with the signature of RTR FI yesterday....

and about MRF Zapper Q 100/90 18" well am using this tire from past 10k kms i did not felt any change in pickup or stability (am just giving my opinion ) .Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

The R15's tyres are not radials. India's only radial tyre for bikes is the FZ's rear tyre.Originally posted by julianpaul View PostYou call that a chota service

The 90 profile rear tyre doesn't really mess up the handling so much. Yes, you can feel the difference but the bike behaves well mannered. For one, you can still take a corner at triple digit speeds with confidence.Last edited by HydBiker; 09-25-2009, 11:20 AM.

if you're not feeling the 'missing' part then keep on using the black ones...Originally posted by abhiwar View PostHello , am using stock injectors but did u felt any change in pickup/power . there's no bump in power or acceleration as such with the new 'silver' injector but the bike is 15-20% more smooth than the 'black' one.The Magician"
