  • Remove the big nut on the key-hole thingy and check underneath. If possible try to disable the switches in the left hand switch box and check whether battery is draining faster than it is charging.

My bike had this problem of front brake switch shorting which made the rear lamp glow even when riding normally WITHOUT APPLYING FRONT BRAKE. Had changed the front brake light switch to solve this problem.

Hey, sorry for the super-late reply. I was on holiday and could only manage an occasional read of the page.
No, I don't think the issue is short circuiting/ electricity leakage. Otherwise the battery drain would have been MUCH higher. I am coming round to the view that the battery has weakened. Will take it out and look at the cells. They have irregular black deposits when gone bad.
Ok. Next issue. Came back after 3 weeks. Managed to fire up the bike after 20-40 kicks. Anybody know why the engine develops compression loss if the bike is not run? What I mean is that the piston goes past the compression stroke easily - even a child can do it. Normally, you can stand on the kick lever and it won't budge, right?
I have observed this earlier also (when the bike is not used for a week or so).

          • Excess Oil from crankcase breather and oil level issues

Hi, I have noticed a peculiar problem with my STD 350 CI 2009 Bullet. This has happened twice. When I check he oil level, it show about 2 cms below the min mark and this causes me to top-up the required amount.
After this when I ride the bike at around 70-80 kmph on the highway, the oil from the catch can flows onto the air filter and messing up everything. Could some one share their experience and insights regarding this kind of thing. I check the oil by placing the bike on main stand and the oil is still warm ( neither too hot or cold )

            • My Third and most probably Final Bullet

              Dear Friends,

Kindly find the attached pics of my third and final(Most Probably) Bullet. Hope you like it. This one is simpler one then elder two. The color of bike is black with the Copper Sparcles i.e. shines in sunlight with copper color.

Actually i am less than novice in photography but tried to capture good ones.

                  Hi Sri

Always check the oil level when it is warm eg. after atleast 4-5 KM run. Then only u can get the correct oil level.

                  Keep Thumping

                  • Hi

                    Hello Bulleteers,

I am a newbie to royal enfield bikes, got a 2008 TBTS just a week back, loved the ride from Chennai to Bangalore in it. One thing that I noticed in the bike is the engine is producing some chattering sound that is kind of unpleasant to hear and also today i discovered some oil leakage from the engine, its from its belly (under the engine) and that had formed a little pool of oil in my porch. can somebody help me figure out what this could be, your responses will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

                      Hi Srikany,
would you try the following steps and see if your low oil problem gets resolved or not?
Stop the engine using the decompressor lever, instead of the key/ engine kill switch. Using the decomp. brings the piston to TDC (top dead center) position.
Or else, bring the piston to TDC manually: push down the kick starter until the ammeter needle flickers back to zero from red.
I have forgotten the whole reason, but apparently, NOT keeping the piston at TDC makes the engine oil flow into another chamber. Hence the false oil reading.
Oil coming out of the catch can happens when the oil quantity is too much, hence the overflow. This is more likely to happen at higher speeds since more engine heat results in the oil expanding.
Check the oil when it is cold (As per Std manual). Warm, expanded oil can give a false high reading. It's better to have more oil damaging your pants, rather than less oil causing an engine seizure. The T'Bird manual says to check oil when it is warm: don't know wny.
Do let us know your results.

                        Hey Rahulram,
a slight (few drops) of oil leakage is within acceptable limits, even for the new UCE engines. A big pool is not.
Keep checking the oil level using the dipstick. If it falls, top up. If it falls again, go to the mechanic.

                        • Would like to know if Classic 350's rear rim a straight fit to STD's wheel hub?

If no, how do I put 18" on STD. I am not able to source Mini Bullet Hub.

                          • Don't know about the wheel hub thing, but won't the motorcycle slant backwards since the height of the rear part is less than the fore?
You will have to compensate by increasing the height of the shock absorbers, or getting a rear tyre with higher aspect ratio (longer sidewalls).
