  • First Service done.

The first service on RudrA my red Dragon bull was completed today. Clocked 520 kms till date. The RE mechs at Teknik motors seem to have done a splendid job on me gear box. It is feeling butter smooth now and seem to have rectified a the niggling issues I had reported like the un lubricated throtle cable and general fasteneing of the bike. Also the bike seemed to have a rich AF mixture and used to flutter when pulling from low RPM s and that has been well sorted. And adjusted the rear suspension to a harder setting to compensate for the thin Rear wheel and that seems to have done the trick the reaer feels much more planted now. It threatned to rain tonite here in Bangalore so reluctanalty left my Red dragon bull in the garage and drove to work,, now eager to finish my day at office rush back and take comphrehensive ride, and plan to have a sshort burst up 80kmph today for a very short burst...

Hey @ ROCKRZ my answers are in bold.. hope they help.

    Peace

    1) he has not yet used the bike for 5000 kms in the last 2 years... does this affect the engine life???? his office is damn near to the residence so he sometimes skips the riding ( about twice a week )...

Not really make sure you change the Oil filter and change the Engine oil in the bike before you start riding regularly.

    2) In the above case, hia average daily riding is about 5 kms... does he need to service the bike every three months?? ( its nearly 500 kms in 3 months )

Yes, If not a full cophrehensive service make sure you change the engine oil every three months regardless of the mileage you run as old oil tends to kinda change it inherent charecteristics and might not do it's job thus affecting the engine in a bad way. And it if it is a new bike and miss the services you run the risk of voiding your warranty

    3) If he takes the bike on a long ride ( nearly 1500 kms), will teh bike give him problems???

The bike should hold strong. It s an Enfiled advise your friend to take frequent breaks atleast once in 15 - 200 kms and that should be good for both the rider andthe bike.

    4) also, will a dirt helmet suit a royal enfield??? the bike is completely stock.........

This is a matter of personal choice but in my opininon a open face cruise helmet and sunglasses suit the bullet the best in the city but for Touring there is no replacement for a good ISI approved full face helmet.

    5) he is planning to get a security system for his bike.. i have a xenon sycurity system on mine and he is really intrested in gettig it on his... he wants the autostart feature on his bullet..... is this possible?

Not sure about the XeNon security system but installing an Electric Start (ES) on a non ES bullet is too much of a bother and would require major modifications and is not worth the overall tiem, effort and money spent.

You can do a dual horn Mod on your T bird maybe you ll have to change your rectifier to a more heavy duty one. One place I can suggest is Om Shakti bullet works on KR road BSK. This place is on the begining of KR road on the Banashankari/Jayanagar side. Speak with Dharmiah the Cheif Mech there.

I am also confused and would really appreciate yr views on this, how did you decide between P220 and TBTS.

I am also facing the same delimma,

I am 40 year old, love riding, don't have much use for a Bike, would be riding it mostly overweek ends for short trips of 40-50Kms.

I am 72 kgs weight and 5ft 10in height, so I think I can handle both comfortably. I like to think about the short dash one can make with P220 and smooth cruise one do do on a TBTS.

Please help, let me know what was on your mind and how did you close the decision

            • Hi Riders!

I own a Bullet Electra 5S. I would like to know if the new bent silencer (the one that comes with the Classics) can be used with my bike without any issue. I would like to believe that its not specifically designed for the new UCE engine, or is it?

If anyone has any info regarding this, please share I would love that silencer on my Electra

              Ride on!

                Hi

I was in your shoes one year back..I am 39 years and had my fair share of motorcycling and accidents for the last 19 years or so.

Most of the new generation bikes will be outdated in an year or two and you may think about changing it after say 5-6 years. I couldn't imagine myself at the age of 50 riding another racer bike, so decided to go for a Bullet, which can be ridden by anybody from the age group of 18-70 without anybody rising an eyelid. You can do the modifications on bullets as you like and ride it till you are able to ride.

Even though we may not like to admit; as we age, our reflexes go slack. Sharp reflexes are a must for riding fast bikes with ever increasing road traffic. Also I wanted to cut down speed as well as I wanted to enjoy riding and taking a relaxed view of life in general. Bullets cannot be ridden at constant high speed, which is a blessing in disguise.

My decision to chose Royal Enfield was also because they were stopping the production of the cult Standard-350, which was my dream bike till childhood..

Well, then I presented myself a new Standard-350 CI some eight months back; covered some 4500 kms.

                Never regretted the decision..

                regards & ride safe..

                  I previously have owned 2 pulsars 180s, (classic 180 and ug 3)
one common thing i saw between them was that they lost steam as they grew old and were not all that fun to ride. I considered p220 as an option
but during the test drive i felt that the feel was very similar to p180 ( i mean the seating etc) though p220 is quicker.

At that moment i wanted a bike which was comfortable for my long daily commutes ie 60 kms to and fro. After a long research i found REs to be known for longevity and they remain as fun to drive even after years of use, yes maintenance was an issue but TBTS is less maintenance bike than the older bulls and common there has to be premium paid to buy something as exciting and something that comes with history attached so i beleive its fair to spend a little more time and money for buying and maintaining a bull :-)

Larger as In wider tyres? If so you really do not have too many options. The only 3 tyres manufaturers in India who make 19" tyres are MRF, Ceat and Dunlop. And they all are 3.50 * 19. If you want a wider tyre than that you will have to think about modding your Bike to a 18" wheel and then tryin on a 120 section tyre. But this I feel will affect the handling of your bull adsversly.

                        hi there,

i would say take a test ride, it will clear all your doubts, we have 3 models in royal enfield classic, electra n tbts. take a test ride of all 3. for riding position n handling, and see which one suits you better. and ofcourse P220.

i m 27 year old and 4 months back i was in the same situation. i waited for new p220, read all the reviews n everything n then i changed my mind n bought new electra 5s (CI). becouse i didnt want to see my self in the same situation every 3-4 years.

since then i love riding. its much more relaxing then any other bike ( unlike my previously own LML vespa, HH cd100, LML Freedom, HH passion, and Bajaj Discover ). you actually start breathing with this bike..

okay now i am going for lunch.
                        thanks.

                        • A quick update from my end: I went to dealership yesterday (Apr 19)to find the status on my CL350. They said someone will contact me tomorrow (20 Apr) about it and let me know. I waited patiently till afternoon today and called up dealer. They said, will know about the status only after April 29th. (P.S - I booked mine on 8th Jan 2010).

Got irritated and blasted a mail to customer care on Customer Satisfaction and not even having courtesy to intimate me on status. All these months it is me who contacted them asking for status and No mail/ No call from either Royal enfield or Dealer.

Got a reply and a call immediately saying mine will be delivered on or before May 20th. So I am seeing light at end of tunnel now and will wait for one more month.

It can be really frustrating to wait for your dream baby. Every enfield guy has gone through this and am sure once your machine is in your hands you will really quite forget all the anguish!! Happy waiting period. BTW a good idea to keep the RE guys on toes

+1 to you Sir. Am 34 yrs old and was in the same dilemma for a brief period although I always wanted a bullet. There is no comparison to the bullet in terms cult status, riding pleasure and in a long ride the thumping sound is like a constant companion and like a beating heart. Most decisions to buy an Enfield are emotional and there is no denying the beautiful bond you develop with your machine. I adore, love and respect my Mach 500 (named it as Cerberus).

though he isn't worried about the initial cost it's the maintenance that he is really apprehensive about
we read some reviews and it is said there that some problem always crops up in the EFI unit
is this problem very common and will it lead to heavy expenditure after a few years?and also are there any other problems associated with it which are quite significant?
both of us have no experience about Enfield bikes so kindly help us out
