• Should I go for CEAT VERTIGO ?

Guys, please help me out. I am planning for tyre upgrade for my Twister, options are MRF Zapper 100/90 or CEAT Vertigo 100/90. I have seen both of them on other bikes, I liked CEAT one coz it looks bulky and heavier than MRF Zapper though both are of same size.

I know some of you have Zapper fitted (Joseph is one I can recall ) and reported no drop in mileage. Is same true for CEAT tyre too ? Is there any mileage drop if I get CEAT Vertigo fitted ?

Also, does CEAT Vertigo comes in two variants - 55 p and 50 p ? If yes, whats difference between these two ??

Also I am planning for following mods in coming weeks :

a. Pulsar 150 rear shocks.

b. Pulsar 150 rear mud flap ( over wheel )

c. Heel- Toe gear shifter ( I have tried TVS Star city, Hero Splendor, Honda Shine gear shifter till now, but all failed . Next in line to try is..unicorn gear shifter )

Please pour in your suggestions on same. Thanks !!!

Yes you can get oil changed, no issues but make sure you go for correct grade and correct quantity of oil .

I am using CEAT Vertigo on my Twister. Though it is looking rugged, I suggest you to choose the lightest tyre of the lot.
Because the swing arm is thinner thus the tyre weight felt at rear.

Mileage not much change, approximately increased 1 or 2 kmpl.

Usually 100/90 tyres seen in heavy 150cc bikes like Unicorn,CBZ Xtreme etc. and you can visually compare those bikes swing arms with Twister's.
They are more heavy which can easily tolerate 100/90 tyre weight. Coming back to Twisters swing arm, they are flimsy when compared with the former's.
You can go with any tyres not much deal, but IMHO choosing lightest 100/90 tyre is better.

Thanks for input !! I do not have much of choice in tyres, as most of 100/90 tyres comes in TubeType and not Tubeless. options are Zapper, Vertigo or Continental contiGo ( not sure whether it is Tubeless or not )

How many K kms you have done on stock tyre? I suggest you to use for at least 20K kms.
May I know what is your requirement in this upgrade? Is it to improve rear Aesthetic or Rear tyre skid while braking? and what is your stock tyre brand?
Too many questions because willing to provide proper suggestion as I have previously gone through this episode with my bike.

Stock Tyre is MRF and ran for 2000 KMs. Personally, it never skidded in my case but I have heard people stories and want to play safe as monsoon is approaching. Thus looking for upgrade, morever it will enhance asthetics too with no effect on mileage. Will you recommend to fit vertigo on twister ??

I am planning for two upgrades at same time, rear shocks and tyre. Regarding rear shocks, do you have any idea about fitment of discover shocks into our bike ? I think discover shocks to be better coz they are desgined for lighter bike ( just like our twister) whereas pulsar shocks would be designed for heavier 150cc bike.

Then go ahead with Vertigo and Discover shocks combo, you won't regret. I have first fitted Discover shocks only. It felt bit low in height to me, then I changed to Pulsar shocks.
Both will directly fit without any mod.

Just one more question: after you've upgraded the tyre what is the topspeed you've achieved? Also, what is the max speed according to you that I can hold on to without the engine suffering breakdown (given the bike will be ridden for 24 hours, with planned stops about 350kms apart)? Thanks again for your inputs.
When the bike was bought, I used to max it out and have hit the top of 105kmph. After Ive upgraded, havent tested the top speed as the traffic has increased a lot in the past 3 yrs and Im not getting any empty strip of road for a test in my locality where roads are not very wide and is congested. I occationally hit 80kmph , but wont be able to hold for long due to the traffic. The safe limit for a short run of maybe 20kms is 90kmph and for an endurance run, 70-75 is the safe zone like Mr. Babu said. The engine and valve noise goes up exponentially beyond 80, so isn't recommended. And the bike is so torquey at 70-75kmph that you would love to keep riding without downshifting at all. Also do make sure AFR isnt set to too lean when making the run as the engine heats up more when lean. All the best!
smartrider : Max tyre sizes I have heard of fitted on twister is 120 section which is very risky as the tyre rubs the swing arms rarely. People run it just fine with 110, but 100 is the recommended standard.

@Ullysius Cabral : No problem, just make sure you do change it as per the scheduled maintence interval.
MoonLight : ceat is better in grip, mrf in handling. I dont like the zapper's grip, but as the name says, it zaps through traffic without any resistance, so Im happy with it. The ceat looks odd with motocross like looks on a bike with a streamlined look. I gained arnd 5kmpl mileage with the zapper. Also heavier the tyre, lesser your acceleration and you will feel the rear to be lagging. Another 100/90 option is the Michelin tubed, but I prefer tubeless.

Thanks bro for info, I too prefered tubeless only and have gone with CEAT Vertigo Sports 100/90 X 17. Cost Rs. 1800 inc fitting charges.
mrbabu76 : What is good air pressure for Ceat tyre ? Mechanic filled it 35 Psi but I feel it to be little high.

You can keep between 32~35 Psi including pillion.
Have you changed shocks also?

Ok....yesterday night I got air pressure dropped to 30 psi. When I got CEAT fitted, I was feeling sometimes like ....loss of grip and regaining grip back in seconds. I then googled a bit about it and came to know that when tyre is overfilled it decreases contact patch of tyre with road. When I went for getting air pressure dropped, its meter showed air pressure as 38 PSI !!!!

Feeling of Ceat vertigo is just excellent compared to stock tyre, no loss in acceleration or heaviness felt. I got nervous while going over patch of sand spilled on road due to feeling that tyre may slip, but bike just crossed it without slightest of slip.

I still have to get shocks replaced, maybe next weekend !!

What about the shocks of Pulsar 135? Its shocks are bigger than 150's i think so, I am not sure though. How much did it cost you?
