  • Update on ride quality

Today is the third day after my purchase and I must admit that I am not that impressed by the ride comfort as I was before. It is not very bad or worrisome, but prolonged riding does seem to make the Bum slightly sore. Also there seems to be too much pressure on the tail bone as the lower back begins to ache very slightly. Mind you I have nt rode for more than an Hr at a stretch as of now and I dont have a sensitive back.

PS. I dont intend to say the bike is uncomfortable, just that it does nt seem to be effortlessly comfortable that I thought it would be.

There may be various reasons for this.

    1. I have heard Avenger is not very comfortable for tall people. So at 5 feet 10 I may just have crossed the height at which it is supposed to be uber comfortable.
    2. I am not used to riding bikes, so maybe it ll take time for my body to settle down and relax on the bike.
    3. The seats are a tad too hard to provide ample cushioning.

The Pillion seat is even worse. Too narrow to provide ample support, plus the stiff ride translates every bump on the road to the spines. I have to take care over imperfect roads when I m with my wife, else it becomes very uncomfortable. Rider is again comparatively better off as its not as harsh there.

    Mods I m Planning

I am planning to improve the seat cushioning by adding some more softer foam and in the process also increase the Pillion rider seat width. Or else even change the seats all together.
Any pointers as to where I can get people to do these mods on Bikes in Delhi?

Horns are too meek in my opinion, will think of changing to some better aftermarket horns.

Thinking of getting Saddle bags which wont interfere with Pillion seating.

I m not thinking of touching the rear shocks now, but I guess I ll need to figure out a way to soften the ride a little.

    Thats all as of now.
    Will keep updating.

    Cheers

Rear Shocks: yes I agree.. I too am thinking of getting some work done on the rear shocks taking into consideration the kind of roads and Speed Breakers (Bike Breakers) we have.

Well as I have communicated earlier that I have bought my Black Strobe month n a half back… and trust me.. I also went thru the same thing… and ask me today.. I wud say.. I m happy with my beast…

I think all the initial hick-ups got to do with the kind of posture that this bike require from us while riding her… I also had Stiff Shoulders and painful bums and My gal always used to complain about the rear seat as ‘it’s not at all comfy and it’s too narrow etc.” But all is gone… we both are happy with our Black Strobe.

Rear Shocks: yes I agree.. I too am thinking of getting some work done on the rear shocks taking into consideration the kind of roads and Speed Breakers (Bike Breakers) we have.
Saddle bags: You get many options in it… but first whtz your preference? Permanent or a temporary arrangements? If Permanent.. go for a tiny boxed ones..it’ll not interfere with the pillions seating… if temp… check your city weather first b4 going for that… with rains coming… U would need to rethink.
Seat Cushioning: Did Check with few here in HYD… and many of them are of the view that if not done properly..it’ll unshape your beast..So until and unless you are too Sure of the person from whom u r getting it done.. I would say try and checkout if you can get a better alternative… (I Always had this doubt…Can RE TB seats can be put on Ave’s?)

Happy riding mate.. and o update if you did find some real kwel Mods for ur beast…

Thanks desire. Yeah I have adjusted to the seating position and now i m not facing much of a problem on the comfort fronts. Rear seat issue remains though. I m planning of the box that you are talking about. But even that is not permanent I guess. You can easily remove it and keep aside with the same key to open the lid. Will look into saddle bags too. And sure will update all those here. Regarding seats, I too am apprehensive about damaging the shape. Thats why I am playing it safe now. If I get someone really good at it, I would try my hands..

              Update

Have now completed 600 Kms in 7 days. First service will be done tomorrow. My calculations tell me I m getting between 35-37 Km/l mileage.

Took the bike out for a longish ride today. Did 220 Kms in around 5 and half hrs with a maximum speed cap at 65Km/hr, the first 15 kms taking more than 45 minutes thanks to the Monday traffic to Gurgaon.
Most of the riding was between 55-60 Kms/hr with slight variations every now and then to avoid riding at a constant RPM for long.

It was scorching hot today with the temperature hovering around 41 to 42 degrees (as per my weather widget) and the humidity levels taking the real feel to more than 46 degrees. The idea about going out during such harsh conditions was to test my own endurance. I wanted to see how well would I hold up on a longish ride and how comfortable the bike would be in hot and cramping conditions with a backpack. The bike passed with flying colours.

The lower back pains that I was getting in the initial days have vanished and the only issue now is a sore butt. But taking short breaks every now and then helped me go around the issue easily.
I had taken 4 breaks in between of around 10-15 minutes each which helped the circulation going in my legs. One mistake I did was not wearing loose fitting pants. The Denims I was wearing were a little tight fit which accentuated cramping in the legs. The heat was making it tough specially since I was in my riding jackets. This also made me and object of amusement for many people who were wondering what I was doing wearing a jacket in this heat.

In the end the ride did nt turn out all that tiring and within a few minutes of ending my ride I was as fresh as I can be. Got to admit the avy held up pretty well specially since I m a rookie when it comes to biking and this by far was the longest I have rode in last 8 years or so. In fact I hardly rode at all in the last 8 years before buying the avy.
In that context today's experiment was a success and has given me some confidence in taking the Avy out for more spins.

              Cheers

Good that you got your reply. Avenger thread has always seen very less activity. Seems all the owners are busy with 'feeling like god'

                    Update

First Service carried out. 12 days/685 Kms

Total cost incurred for the service Rs980.
Which includes price of Engine oil, Oil additive and teflon coating.

Total Petrol filled till service- 21.62 litres

                    Total Mileage- 35.8 Km/L (Approx)

I was too thinking about putting skull rear view mirrors and skull back light on my bulllet classic.. but then dropped the idea thinking it will ruin the orignality and may take the decency out of the bike.... though I knew they will look cool...
