While i can kinda manage the bike, i wouldn't feel comfortable getting a bike on which both my feet cant touch the ground .

Not going to lie I am low-key pissed that i wont be getting a gixxer, the street presence of that bike is miles ahead of avenger. ( no offence to any avenger owners )

I am having a feeling that this won't be the first time my height will prove as a disadvantage for me in life . FML

So, the way things are looking right now I will be getting a Bajaj Avenger after all .

Now the question is which one will suit my needs , the 150cc or the more powerful 220cc .

I am leaning towards the street 150 model , even though i am aware that the price difference between both 150 and 220 models is not that big. Street 150 being Rs90250 OTR and Street 220 being around 1.01 lacs approx , so around 10k or so .
But I think over the long run the 150 will end up saving me a significant amount of cash in both maintenance and fuel.

Please tell me the 150 is capable of touring. I wont be going on 1000+ kms ofc on this bike, just north of 400-500kms . Like Jaipur to udaipur / delhi , etc . Maybe a tour once a month once I am out of the engine break in process .

I rode avenger few moons back and it was so comfy , it felt like i was in control and bonus being its literally the only bike in the market on which both my tiny feet can rest on the ground.

At this point I am open to all suggestions, if you think there is another bike in the market I should test drive and will be comfortable for me, please let me know.

Well, I am 5.7 and I rode Hero Impulse once and could not keep my feet on the ground and not just that it was very painful but also it gave me much less control of bike on road. Leads to minor accidents, e.g. falling off the bike when road is broken and you will not be able to keep ball of the foot on ground (yeah, happened with me). Even if you can keep bal of the foot on the ground, it still gives you less control, you are still in danger. It is dangerous for B2B traffic too because you can hit your fellow riders because of lack of control and balance. So I know exactly how you felt. You are still in excitement phase. This desire to have a bike with road-presence will fade away in a year (if not in few months). Later, you will have more practical considerations and more mature emotions and feelings than the current excitement. Once I sat on Avenger & I felt very different, felt like having lot of control. Trust me it is on my list for 2nd bike. It will be very good for your height. Try TD (Test-Drive) of V15 and new TVS Victor too before buying. Like I said earlier, Read, Talk, Wait and have Patience. Do not hurry.

For a rookie like you, 150cc is more than enough. If you are into touring then of course higher CCs are better but cost will be higher. I am not talking of just initial buying cost but the everyday cost of having lower mileage too. Even I thought I will tour once/twice a month and my riding will be 80/20 for City/Touring ratio but practical life kept me on city roads. Once in a month I travel little bit outside the city but I feel fine with 100cc for that, no need to buy special touring if you gonna do the same. Our desire and dreams mature over time and our feelings change. The key is to connect to more riders and listen to what they love to tell about their bikes, the pros and cons too, both offline and online. Have patience, do not hurry.

    • Re: Bajaj Avenger issues

      Apologies for the long update:

An update on the Bike not going in neutral gear!!

      24-June -
So I bought the bike on 24/06 and I updated my Sales advisor (Deepu from Sai Service Andheri, Mumbai) the same day for the bike not going into neutral during Engine running condition (this happens 95% of the times), however it clicks into neutral properly when the engine is OFF. Deepu requested me to visit the Andheri service center and meet Shrikant.

I am ofcourse concerned on this. I had a Unicorn and then a comfortable VW Vento and the Avenger was more a decision taken out of pleasure than necessity (fuel savings a plus too). So I stopped riding the bike and tried multiple channels to check whether Avenger has an issue moving to neutral gear as follows:
      - Posted a question here in XBHP, and Anuj mentioned that its a matter of practice/To Use the kill switch.
      - Actually rolled down my windows at Signal junctions and asked people driving avengers. All stated no issues and also showed the switch to neutral easily.
      - Googled online, and found a lot of people with Neutral gear issues.
      - I had a user in my building who had an old Avenger (4-5 years back). Checked on his bike, and he switches off his bike in GEAR as the bike DOES NOT go into neutral. He says he felt its an issue in his bike and hence he never went to repair it

      05 - July
So, with contradicting responses, I take the bike to the service center on 05/07 (ODO - 68 kms)

      - I meet a service advisor, who checks the bike and loosens the clutch, but it does not help. He said you need to practice a bit and walks off.
      - I don't want to budge on my stance, so I find Shrikant. He supposedly is the Service Advisor for of the month for June 2017. He takes a long drive on the bike (he disappeared for nearly 5 minutes), and directly takes it inside the garage saying that there is an issue. I mentally thank Deepu to send me to the right guy.
      - He loosens the clutch more, shows that the bike goes in neutral sometimes and explains that to move an AVENGER bike into neutral, first move from 2nd Gear to 1st Gear, then 1st gear back to 2nd gear and then a gentle tap into Neutral. On being asked, why cant I move it directly into neutral the 1st time itself, the reply was that Avenger works like this only, and as I am driving it for the first time, I am feeling it
      - I refuse to take this explanation and request to test another bike. I start the engine, move into gear, and try to move to NEUTRAL. CLICK - It nicely slotted into neutral. I tried multiple times from 2nd and 1st gear and still the same. Shrikant says as the ODO is higher (368 Kms), hence the bike has become smoother. I told him if the ODO is an issue, I will go to Lonavala and bring the ODO to 300+ the same day and I will still bring the bike tomorrow for the same issue.
      - Finally he relents and says that he will open up the clutch assembly and look into it. Opens a Job card and says delivery will be on 06/07.
      - I go on 06/07, and he says mechanic has not come today, so my work was not done. No intimation to a customer for not coming on the committed date.
      - 07/07 evening I receive a call saying that issue is resolved, but I go to pickup the bike only on 10/07 morning as I was outstation.

      10th July -
      - I go to pickup the bike, and Shrikant says that they opened up the whole clutch assembly and dipped everything in OIL to get the parts moving. He demonstrates that the bike going to NEUTRAL everytime he is pressing the clutch, and lurching forward and changing the GEAR at the same time. Of course, I fail doing that everytime . I tell him that the issue is not resolved for which he curtly tells me to meet the works manager.
      - The works manager - Himanshu hears my sob story and promises to look into it. He instructs Shrikant to change the whole Clutch assembly and Gear Shift lever as the bike is under warranty on a new JOB Card and that the bike will be ready till Tuesday 11/07.
-Shrikant takes my old JOB card back, and gives me a new one dated 10/07 (not sure why they did this but I presume it is to show a new request) and says the bike will be ready till 11/07.
      - Today is 14/07 and not even a single call from Sai Service till now.

In the meanwhile, another friend finalized on the Avenger. I inform him of this issue, and he checks it on the bike which is being assigned to him but it was not there but when he tried my bike, even he could not move to NEUTRAL. Another friend who earlier had an avengers laughs on me taking it to the Service center, saying that we have to just lurch it forward (how Shrikant demonstrated)

This basically shows that there are a batch of Avengers who do have this issue and other batches who do NOT have this issue. The question is why have people not raised it with BAJAJ till now, and if it has been raised, why has BAJAJ not fixed the issue till now. The way the service advisors tried to shoo us away shows that they know of the issue but do NOT want to work on it.

I am very clear that I will not budge on my position as I do not want to keep the clutch pressed continuously in Mumbai's stop and go traffic. Tomorrow I will go again to the service center and take a stock of the situation.

Will keep you updated. Apologies for the long thread.

Dude how can you even compare a cruiser to a street naked??
And in my opinion if you ride sane and safe go for street 150
And if you really like that chopper and want that chrome glam quotient and the high rising windshield and pillion backseat then go for the cruise one
You'll never regret buying a avenger over gixxer for the comfort it will always offer you while you ride

          hi,
          Congrats for your new Avenger.
Bringing bike to Neutral was difficult for me when it was new. But now can easily come to neutral in single tap.
There can be issue with your bike, but new parts take some time to perform good.
          1) from 2nd gear, come to 1st
          2) Gently tap the gear lever for neutral, it should come to neutral.
          3) If not and bike goes in 2nd gear, again tap gently for neutral.

Remember, only gently tap the lever, dont press it fully. Hope this helps you.

Adding to what Goldy has suggested.. I noticed that when the rev is low then its more easy to find the neutral with the above technique.. Moreover.. I am new with avenger @1300 kms on odo.. I find neutral even when I don't want.. N with full stop or traffic.. Need to follow the drill as suggested by Goldy.

Taking the delivery of avenger 150 today!
This bike is costing me RS. 89000 OTR, including some "free" accessories , body cover, helmet and extra seat covers .. bleh!

Is the price within reason or am I being duped ?

I know absolutely nothing about bikes as of right now.

So what to except with a new bike ?

What all to check during the delivery?

I am following this PDI checklist I found online on zigwheels and it basically tells you to check the new bike for any dents , welding errors , dents ,etc during delivery and check the oil levels , make sure the clutch and break Freeplay are within recommend values. Basic shit

                Is this enough?

Also read about engine break in, and from what I gathered I can't run the bike at constant and high speeds >60km till the first 2000kms..

If you would like to.add something , let me know. I literally have no one else to go to for bike related queries , expect this forum.

                xoxo

                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Is the above quoted price of RS. 89000 for the avenger 150 a decent price or I should ask for a better price today ?

Should I ask for any free accessories like the headlight grill or whatever it's called.

                Let me know

                xo

                EDIT :

okay , so got the new bike . Now what?

Just tell me what all things i should take care of and stuff.

I am from Jaipur , Rajasthan.
The dealer was pl. Bajaj , ajmer road.

The bike costed me exactly 89200 the 200 additional charge cause I hated the helmet that were giving me.

Only accessories I got was a body cover, some 100 oil that they told me to put in my bike after filling it up with gas.

The bike has 0kms on the odometer at the time of delivery. Which I thought was cool.

So far the bike is running ok? I guess.

I really don't have any previous experience riding a bike so I am not sure how the bike SHOULD perform and stuff.

I have installed k&n r1100 in my bajaj avenger 220. Firstly withouting tuning the carburator and it was not working fine there was a lag in acceleration. Then i tuned up the carburator according to air filter now sometimea ut gives me lag at higher rpm. Now im thinking to remove the catalytic converter.
Please tell me what should i do. And yes its giving me low milage and top speed of 110km/h

I think you got a pretty decent deal considering the prices in Delhi where some dealers are quoting as high as 91k + accessories. The bike is comfortable on bad patches and potholes on road, hope you've a trouble free ride for kms to come.

Hello everyone,I need some help with the suspension, front one is decent but I am having a little trouble with the rear one. Its a bit too stiff, is there any way to make it soft?I don't want to mod the suspension, can it be tweaked? Thanks in advance.

                                HELP ME!!
its been 5 days since i have bought home the street 150 . Due to bad weather i've only managed to ride about 160 kms thus far

I don't know if this is my being paranoid or my lack of experience riding bike or what but the bike engine sounds a little "stressed out" to me( i believe the term is revving, though i could be wrong ) and that too at 55kmph on the 5th gear .

It it normal ? is it cause the bike is fairly new ?

should i go to the service center and get the bike checked?

should i change the engine oil ? right now i am not sure what type of oil is in my bike , i am trusting the motorcycle dealer on that one . . .

                                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

again , not sure if i am hearing things or what, but the bike even sounds a little harsh when its idling in neutral T_T

this is my first bike so i am all sorts of paranoid and trying not to mess anything up. <<

if anyone want i can record the sounds of my bike idling and upload it somewhere and then you be the judge!
