I simply want the races to begin, its a respite that SBK is starting this week-end but unsure whether it will be aired live.

I am not commenting as I can't fathom what is happening in tests. Somebody is acting a fool or is indeed laid-down.

Though one thing is sure Casey W-I-L-L kick some a$$.

And now that clutches are discussed, I am miffed again. Which rider uses clutch while up-shifting, hell they don't even let the throttle go off.

            • As a Honda fan this is nirvana. If this pace is reflected in the races it will be like a return to the Doohan era.

              Bring it on, I say!
All riders fall; some get back on, some don't, some can't...

I see your point mate.....race pace might turn out to be different....,

agree that they don't use clutch while upshifting...instead they use a quickshifter which has a strain gauge on the shifting lever...when it senses a force being applied, it cuts off the ignition momentarily....effectively letting the rider shift while on full throttle....Still I think they would be using the clutch for downshifting (going into corners).... am sure the technology would come out in due time anyway....

Also I have checked the schedule for ten/star/espn for this weekend...no live coverage it seems....although there will be a repeat telecast on star sports sunday night(monday) at 0:00(2 hrs).....

                    • ^^ Ha ha ha good one buddy. But you missed one quote from Jeremee. "How the hell do I fix this thing in 80 seconds"

The Doc Sandbagging nah! I don't think so...The post test interview clearly shows that though he was way far away from Hondas in the test timings, he is feeling the heat of Hondas' firing exhausts

About the clutch. I am very naive in this but the slipper clutch incorporated in the production bikes also does something like this only i.e. making the gear shifts smooth especially downshifts, right? Slam me if I am wrong would be happy to increase my knowledge

+1... the Doc doesn't seems to be sandbagging this time......

Slipper clutch is already incorporated in GP bikes....infact it has come to the production bikes from racing itself..., what it does is slip after a particular value of torque...try downshifting on your bike from 5th to say 3rd directly...you feel a jerk(maybe skid) which is due to the vehicle inertia..its the backtorque acting....the slipper clutch limits this backtorque ...thus making multiple downshifts while going into corner smoother...

disclaimer: the above description is just my knowledge...google for better results....

                          Quite right.

Slipper clutches work only to ease hard downshifts at high rpms (especially when you do it purposely to gain engine braking). So instead of the engine braking locking the drive, the clutch 'slips' and prevents lock-ups. Well, that's the theory.

Dunno if these GP bikes have 'em. Would be unfair. Slipping a clutch manually should be rider skill.

Nice to be back. Thanks to all the newshounds for updating the thread with minute-by-minute updates. One stop info for dummies like me.

                            • Anybody willing to bet that Honda won't win the manufacturer's crown this year?
                              The last of 800's.

Especially after this news has been flashed.

How serious is Honda about winning the 2011 MotoGP World Championship? At Team Gresini's MotoGP launch at Monza today, it was quietly confirmed that the San Carlo Honda Gresini squad has been given the keys to the candy store, turning the team into a factory-backed effort. While Marco Simoncelli was already assured factory support from Honda for the 2011 season, the move adds Hiroshi Aoyama to the factory rider list, and likely makes Gresini's life infinitely less complex by not having to manage between a factory and non-factory split garage.

Simon will whip up a storm now. I wish that he frequents podium.

                                ^^Honda is pretty desperate...poaching yamaha engineers (2009) to managers(suppo) to riders(stoner)...everything

I would like to see simoncelli having some close battles(with Jlolly prolly)....he fights hard....
