Are you sure on that buddy coz I have seen Yamaha upshifting without closing the throttle even before they brought in the seamless gearbox last year.

More on the issue here from 2013: Even a CRT bike never required a close of throttle while up-shifting.

Yes, that's because the gearboxes of racing bikes are pretty special and very fast anyway, even without the so-called seamless; still there was some "seam" in the power delivery due to gear shifting, which (because of the 250+ bhp of those engines - that's the main factor) caused ripples. The biggest advantage of seamless is when it works also when downshifting; we have seen that Yamahas were able to stay closer to the Hondas only when their seamless acquired also the downshift functionality.

Expect Ducati to do well at Motegi. It is a stop-and-go track which requires strong braking and good acceleration from low speeds, two areas in which Ducati has been historically strong. Capirossi won races there years ago, when Ducati was more competitive. I'm not saying they can win, but podium could be a possibility, and a first row start as well.

I'm going to be at Sepang for quali and the race. Riding down from Singapore, early morning Saturday. I have a grandstand F ticket. PM me your plans if you'd like to meet up.

Pedrosa pulls off a proper stoppie on track at Motegi -

Dovi tops first day FP, with Lorenzo setting a good pace. Marquez crashes and is slower than he normally is.

Reminder to everybody, race is in Japan, will not at normal MotoGP afternoon timings. Will be in the morning. Sleep early on saturday night or don't sleep at all

I would hand over the pole to VR with just .055 sec behind Dovi. A factory bike with a super soft tyre doesn't surprise me.

What a session by the doc that with a broken index finger!
