      • Carlos Checa to race for Pramac Ducati for the last two races since Kalio is recovering from a shoulder injury. Wow i've always liked him and it would be good to see him after a long time and he seems to be really excited about this.

Casey Stoner's 2010 MotoGP season has been blighted by crashes. Starting at Qatar, where the Australian crashed out while leading the race after dominating throughout practice, Stoner faced a number of front end issues with his Ducati Desmosedici, adding a second crash at Le Mans to his troubles.

Things started to improve from Mugello, where Stoner's side of Marlboro Ducati garage decided to go back to the narrower forks they had used in 2009, and the crashes stopped happening. This still left Stoner struggling with front end grip though, and unable to find a setup that he felt comfortable enough with to push at the front.

That all changed at Aragon: Casey Stoner's team finally found the solution they had been chasing, and since making those changes to the bike, Stoner has gone on to win three out of four races, dominating in eerily familiar form. Only an early race crash at Sepang prevented Stoner from making it four in a row, the Australian doing penance by destroying the rest of the field at his home Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

So what caused this turnaround? What changed between Misano and Aragon, that allowed the Australian to shine once again? After the race at the Motorland Aragon circuit, Stoner explained to journalists what changes had been made to the setup of his Marlboro Ducati that had made the transformation possible. The team had identified Stoner's reconstructed wrist as the cause of the problems, and adjusted the bike accordingly, Stoner explained.

"Basically, I don't have the mobility in my wrist after the bone graft," Stoner told journalists. "[The bone graft has]completely locked my wrist in a lot of areas, and I can't get the same movement that I can on the other one for the inside of the corner."

The solution, Stoner explained, was to change Stoner's seating position on the bike. "We just put my weight further forward so I don't have to do it physically like I used to. I used to maybe go into a corner, get myself a little bit further forward, get the weight over it. Now we've just done this setup-wise." The change had literally made Stoner more comfortable on the bike, having reduced the stress on the Australian's shoulder, he explained. "It's actually taken a lot of weight off my shoulder. Normally, my shoulder really hurts during the end of every session. After every race, my left shoulder is just destroyed. And [Aragon] is a left-hand track with a lot of left-hand braking points, and I didn't have any problems."

The team had moved Stoner slightly further back, but stretching him out at the same time. "I've basically lengthened from the beginning of the tank to the handlebars, they're further away as well. By doing that, stretching me out a little bit, but at the same time, putting my weight forward, it's balanced me out quite well."

Ok! with no intention of starting up an argument, I am putting up my thoughts after reading several posts (couple of them mentioned above).
                    If the link is to be believed, Stoner says he quit Ducati because of no development on the bike all the years he was in Ducati;
                    In his post race conferences he used to say that he has absolutely no idea why he loses bike's front and crashes;
Reading about his front end issues and its solution makes me wonder how much input or should I say how efficiently he conveys his issues to his team.

If second article has any truth, the solution to his front end problems was more to do with his own physical problem (his wrist not having enough mobility) than the bike which nobody else would have known more than the rider himself.
Now I understand that looking for an answer to a problem includes numerous steps and analysis but shouldn't the latest approach (which actually fixed the issue) be tried in the first place before toppling over the bike and changing several parts to older ones?

His claim of bike not being developed seems a bit unfair as without a rider's detailed/clear inputs, the bike anyways cannot be developed.
Company having less finances for the development and not having enough luxury as the Big Japs is one factor but as we all know and agree that riders' inputs play much important role. If he wants he could push the company for further development of the bike.

Stoner is certainly a terrific rider and blindingly fast on a bike that suits him. But what exactly is his contribution to the bike is what interests me. Either the media doesn't cover much on that topic and doesn't publish it or Stoner doesn't actually contributes much or the company/rider keep it a closed kept secret.
Is he equally a good development rider? It would be interesting to see which way the development of Honda's RC212v goes after say about half way through the next season; the pedrobot way or Stoner's way (leaving out Dovi purposefully as he is in the factory merely by virtue of his contract than Honda's liking to keep him there).

Now people please don't take it as an offense towards Stoner.
I am no expert in racing and might be totally wrong making myself a stupid person through this post; It is just that some thoughts came in to my mind and wanted to put forward...

                    • i hope you dont mind me getting in between your thoughts.

the news you read, i read. the races you watch, i watch. but here is a case of reading between the lines.

can stoner develop? Nope. i think he had the perfect start on a new bike when the 800's began. so why fix it if it ain't broken.

is stoner telling lies? of course!!.

Fixing the front end is one thing but developing it is another. you remember the carbon fiber upgrades the duacti got last year. and it got quite a bit of stuff here and there. i even remember some kind of wings they were testing on the factory bikes.

                      why did stoner lie

Not at all pal which is why I put out my thoughts even though at the risk of being the starter of a probable inflammatory argument

Agree to your views. Nice read thanks...

so the contribution by any rider is upto how well they understand and communicate with their colleagues is very important. and well it also depends on how serious the guys in the factory take you.

My honeymoon is postponed to December due to lack of leaves (couple of months back took two weeks leaves for my leh ride) and now manager not letting me go. Can't take long leaves in quick succession.

Coming back to topic. Yeah last two races will be a lot of things to watch out for...
                              Stoner trying for runners up.
                              Dani trying to defend it
Rossi trying to win the last two with Yamaha
                              Jlo showing his dominance
Spies proving his worth for factory ride next year
Dovi! well he'll just try to prove his worth in HRC

Will be interesting to see Carlos Checa after three years of gap in motogp

Sumit Bhai Congrats.....many many wishes for a happy and exciting married life ahead.....
first and last OT from me..,

Looking forward to last 2 races....sadly the season is going to end i.e. no races for coming 4 months..., I already feel sad....

Regarding Rossi being a development genius....this is very well described in a book I was reading -- "motogenius" (book on Rossi by Mat oxley-2006 edition)....given a lot of instances where Rossi and burgess quickly figured out the right thing to do....
even in 2000 when Rossi joined 500s- Mick had just retired leaving Criville the top rider...who took the development in the wrong direction i.e. more and more power- which doesn't helps if you can't put that power to use, Honda quickly realized that Rossi is good and followed his lead thereafter,

Even the RCV was rated bad by all the riders first time they rode it, Rossi's inputs made it better

then again in 2004 Rossi and Burgess turned the M1 around in just a couple of months....

At one point Burgess even says that Rossi is much better at developing than Doohan, also when Rossi replaced Doohan- all the mechanics/team were relieved as Doohan was dead serious and fanantic about winning....creating stress for all....whereas Rossi's working idea had "having fun" at its centre..

oops....too much praise of Rossi.....excuse me please..., effect of reading the book.....

hope marco kicks arse in WSBk, a rivalry with Max can develop as well...they both do have a history...
