That's NOT a mahindra product but a Megelli 125 cc Streetbike.

            • Updates - Mahindra 300 CC bike

Got my sources to tell me more on the bike. Details below.

Disclaimer - I cannot gurantee you this info is 100% true. But all info comes from someone working in Mahindra 2-wheelers.

Bike is not designed from scratch. It was a pre-existing design - 300cc twin cylinder bike. The bike has been optimsed and tweaked for India. Scheduled launch is in October. First they are going to gauge the market and this will not be Mass Market product. First lot of bikes will be 100% CBU and then they will plan for further steps. You can say its a Pilot Launch. As of now there is no finalized name for the bike. Nothing of this bike has been Made or Designed in India. Price wil be 1.25-1.3 Ex-showroom. Basically Mahindra is testing waters with the 300cc bike.

There is another product 125-150cc which is Made in India. That is for Mass market.

That's a shock pricing especially when it's a CBU.Hoping it to be true.It will send tremors down the two-wheeler world of this country. And many a drawing boards of the competitors will be changed for sure!!

The point is.. Mahindra will bear the cost of CBU. They might not pass it on to the cutomers. Because if you consider 114-115% duties... the bike Price on road will reach 2.8 Lakhs.. which is against ninja. And people will anytime buy a ninja over a Mahindra at that price. Ninja is world's best selling 250cc.

Even intial units of R15 had imported engine (if I can recall it correctly). But Yamaha still kept the same price of 97K Exshowroom. Bearing the cost of Import duty.

seems too(and a big one at that) good to be true but then if it materialises its going to be one big KO

                    • 1.25 L to 1.3L for a 300cc Twin imported as CBU? That's shock pricing! Will make some of it's lower segment bikes look super expensive!

If it's true then my RX135 is up for sale in October

Ofcourse @this range this would be wierd for an Italian (if it is) bike...An Italy built P220 would cost around 1.25L

that is one thing i cannot digest at all.... no body even in the name of testing waters will do that.... its like giving somebody the cost of the bike upfront.

I am talking about Possiblity. i have not confimed that Mahindra will pay for import duties.

just for your info.. When Honda had Launched CiviC hybrid in India at 21 Lakhs.. There were not many buyers. The car was exorbitantly expensive due to import & Excise duties.. Due to which they had inventory left.. And around 200 Cars were waiting for buyers inside honda plant.

And one fine day.. Honda repriced all cars at 13 Lakhs.. bearing the cost of duties.. All the inventory cleared in just couple of days.. and there were further enquires for Civic Hybrid at that price. So you must have got my point.

that is exactly what people do when you have excess stock and things don't move out of the shops. ask Honda to import and deliver a civic hybrid at 13L now because they did it in the past, i bet you know what their answer would be.

I have seen silly posts in xbhp before but this one should go in hall of fame.

if I have to believe your Honda story (which is hard to believe), then its the price Honda payed for failing to gauge the market for hybrids in India and their thin research before launch.

But still, all of that give away was AFTER they had fail. The news you just told us reflects that Mahindra is already assuming it's "would be launch" as a fail product, which is nonsense just like your source.

There is a BIG difference between importing sections/parts of units and CBUs. Its not hard to figure that out.
