      • @GS: Can you please tell me whether it is comfortable (the brake+clutch levers{changing gears and braking}, the foot pegs, riding position) for a tall rider. I too am 6'2. Thanks in advance!

            • Aargee: you mentioned it right bro, its merely switching platforms for owners who already have the P220. For folks like us who have been riding a Karizma all the while now, is actually a pretty tricky decision. Either we get a 600 imported, OR we go abroad and get a 600 OR stick here while companies feed us with these lower cc bikes until they think the time's ripe to get the 600s in. A GT650 is a good choice, but I dont like Korean :P. So yes, some of us, will have to stick around, and if we cant then go for this baby. Keeping it simple, silly!

Any updates from you? Whens your coming??

Threw them the MT-01 keys...told them I only ride alone and took the bike out for a short but sweet test ride.

                First impressions:

                1. The bike is about the same size as the Karizma but due to the low bars it feels shorter and smaller. Decent enough for tall riders and I am as tall as they come at 6'3".

                2. Not as POWERFUL as I expected. The Ninja when properly ridden will show a clean pair of heels to the CBR -BUT- allow me to change this impression of mine because this bike was pretty new and not yet run-in. Maybe with 2-3000 kms on the ODO it might smoothen up and open up some more. Think of it as a fast ZMA and not as your first superbike...I've ridden P220s and R15s that had a bit more *ZIP* than the CBR.

                3. Clutch is light but there is NO TORQUE down low (pulling away from the stops). Felt identical to the Ducati Monster 796 in the way you had to give it some slip before it caught and went. This could be a problem if I take the bike to Ladakh because slipping the clutch when you are in the middle of nowhere can lead to tears! (the kind that comes out of your eye...)

                4. Brakes - GOOD! This was the C-ABS model

                5. Suspension - GOOD! Just like a good 600cc superbike. Firm without being harsh. The road they asked me to ride on was pretty awful but on decent tarmac it should be a joyful experience.

                6. Handling - a bit too "quick" for my taste. If the terms oversteer and understeer are applicable here then it oversteers. The ZMA was quick to steer...R15 much more controlled. This is somewhere in between but still too quick. It loses the "big bike" feel because of this. I think this is due to steering geometry and narrow tires. The rear tire is nice and meaty for a bike this size but the front tire feels too thin. I think aftermarket tires are a must on this bike to make the most of it.

                7. Seats - comfy. Firm without sag. Will be a boon over a long ride.

                8. Instrument panel - looks good but I found it a bit distracting in the night because it is quite bright. Not sure if there is any way to dim the panel brightness.

I looked all over for paint defects and I must tell you that there were none (this was the BLACK bike). Panels look alright even if quality is perhaps a couple of steps below the Ninja and maybe 1 step below the R15 which I rate very highly when it comes to build quality.

I still think the R15 is the better bike simply for the way it FEELS when you ride it. It absolutely feels like a track machine. Very precise and predictable...almost like a Ariel Atom to the CBR250R's Dodge Charger.

Is it worth the money? Unlike some of you who probably get carried away by the illusion of big-biking, I don't think this is a BIG-BIKE killer. I don't think it is worth the asking price...at best I would have put the pin on 1.3L for the non-ABS and 1.5 for the ABS. So the pricing is off by 30k for the non-ABS and 40k for the ABS model...

Are there any choices in the market at this price? - NO...

Should a P220/R15 rider feel the desperate need to upgrade? - NO...

Doing 150+ on a bike like this would feel scary...on an MT01 or R1 it feels slow, controlled and safe. I did 100 on one stretch and I didn't quite feel like the bike was entirely in my hands.

So buy the bike - but ride safe...speed kills!

Best Bit - I have a video of my test-ride...I'll try to upload it in a few hours.

This is an over-square bore which is quite different from the under-square bore of the ZMA. Hence this reluctance from 0kph to 20kph.

Just to add some facts here:

                Karizma Bore x Stroke = 65.5 X 66.2
                CBR250R Bore x Stroke = 76.0 x 55.0

Just so you know I am not talking out of my ass...which is fun sometimes!

I must also add that the Headlights haven't been improved on much since the dawn of the Karizma...which is another disappointment

Nice to read this, so are you still booking it?
Point 2 comes as a surprise, especially for a single cylinder quarter!
Will go over the weekend and catch it as well. Seems like the test mule has been adequately raped as well. Can you get the MT as well so that they allow me to ride alone :P the R15/RTR doesnt pull off such a sweet deal!

Indian NINJA is NOT detuned, it is bone stock. Bajaj does NOT tinker with that engine. This is what Mr. Vas had mentioned to me.
Did you T-Rex the ninja to claim that?

Hmm...a ZMR having 4 valves, DOHC with counter balance & manufactured by Hero group I doubt anywhere on the recent times. We all compare this with ZMR because we know HH tie up + we're in India & the closest of CC match between ZMR & CBR. How about the blokes in EU or USA? To them its still a CBR isn't it? Besides, the ZMR, I'm sure wouldn't have made its way to any developed countries.

In that aspect, aren't we getting a truly international motorcycle at an affordable pricing here?

But then I still agree, for someone who's looking to buy a C250R from P220, it certainly is not an upgrade, its only switching platform.
What MG meant and I concurr is that the CBR250R IS what the ZMR should have been in the first place. Which is why all of us say that its a tad overpriced, but YET a good buy at that price point.

And I have a video of MGs reaction when he saw the bike. But for good reasons I wont post them here

It will be good for the avid bikers who are going to buy this machine...

BTW, the pictures are awesome. Red is surely the colour to watch out for..

I am going to buy the bike either ways to replace my old karizma but if as mentioned about low end torque and pick up issues I may change my mind and put some additional mulla and buy a Ninja but not a ZMA for sure.

                          1) ZMA is nothing but a Karizma with some cosmetic changes. How can u compare the looks of CBR250 and ZMA.
                          2) HH faith now after the split between Hero / Honda looks very unstable.
                          3) Service not the same as before after the close down of Creative Motors. I have had lot of problems getting spares for the karizma at authorized service centers specially in the suburbs.
                          4) Lastly please don't forget that ZMA was the last technology exchange given by Honda to Hero.
Guys i am just back from a test ride of the CBR 250RR. It was a brand new bike and I was first guy to take a test ride. Here are some of the points i noticed in the first 1 min of riding the bike. ( I came to the showroom using my Karizma so immediately felt the difference).

                          1) Riding Position was top notch. I felt so comfortable and relaxed. I was neither too much bent nor too much straight. After the test ride I felt I was on a moped on my Karizma still and straight and again feeling like i was putting some strain back on my shoulders. I have driven the R15 and found it very uncomfortable for longer rides due to the position. It caused a lot of strain on your back.

                          2) Balance was great I just drove it on a very rocky road before hitting a smooth road and I purposely tried to slow down the bike and I never felt the need to put my leg down at slower speeds which normally I would do on my Karizma.

                          3) Gear shift was just like driving a Honda City not a single THAK THAAK even with 1/2 clutch. Karizma makes so much of noise even after pressing the full clutch. It landed to Neutral back without any judgment in my first ride. In the Karizma after so many years or riding I still can't get to neutral properly most of the times when stopping without fiddling around with the gears. I guess may be I am not pro enough but these are some basic problems I did not encounter with the CBR.

                          4) Engine Sound : OK OK does not sound anywhere like a SBK should. No Complains though. Sounded the best out of all current bikes.

                          5) Pick Up : I have heard lot of guys talking about low torque in the first gear I too felt that initially that vehicle needed a little bit of raise for pickup but I will tell you one thing this engine is brand new. We will only be able to judge about the pick up after at-least the first service when the engine smooths out a little. But all in all it rocked after the second gear. I raised the bike and the showroom guy sitting behind me was pushed back by a good margin. Front wheelies would be a breeze i guess

Pick up anytime better than R15 , Karizma , ZMA.

                          6) Horn : Single Horn but loud enough. I don't think i will need to put a second one. It was OK. Not like the ones which come on HH Passion. Peep Peep.

                          7) Braking : I did not notice a huge difference in the braking on the C-ABS model than my Karizma. It was OK. I guess I will have to go at speeds in access of 80kmph to notice the difference. One thing i noticed for the pillion rider on Karizma is he would always slide down the seat when i use to brake hard but did not happen on the CBR Pillion never moved an inch even after hard brake.

All in all I would suggest as of today CBR beats all the current bikes currently in the market mainly ZMA,R15,P220 in some way or the other maybe design, performance, smoothness etc.

Good Package all in all but there will be loads of bikes in the 250CC range by other companies in sometime which will beat the CBR easily.

                          I hope this was informative.

                          • ZMR should have been in the first place or not is a wish rather than the reality. The reality is that HH FAILED to graduate to 250 & got struck with 223 cc. Does a mere less of 249-223 = 26 cc contribute to another 8 bhp?

If N250R can show a clean pair of heels to C250R, let be it & that's the additional 8 Bhp difference between C250R & ZMR, isn't it? Human mind is disappointed when there's a huge expectation & when the reality isn't meeting that expectation. When there's already N250R in the market & when there's a rivalry it should always necessitate the rivalry is powerful. Why shouldn't a C-ABS, better FE & most importantly the availability of HMIS service centres all over the country instead of scarce PBK's become positive aspects?

Regarding the pricing, I've no comments. For the moment, this is the best 250CC segment money can buy in this country, otherwise, one has to go for performance improvement programs with ZMA/R to mate with C250R.

Considering the price of performance improvement program + cost of ZMA/R, will that still falls less than 30K of C250R? Even if it does, do we get the same life of a stock engine?

Last but not the least, considering the practicality of this country on both highways & city ride, the best package someone can get is, lesser maintenance expense with good quality ride at affordable cost & decent power. Anyway, even these are very early to comment unless the ownership thread starts.

                            • I am not sure if we can define if there are any standards regarding platform in India. we got 100,125,150,180,220 and 250cc (100cc-250cc).
people here buy a bike even if it offers a little increment over their older bike, though the gain is minimal. people switch from 125 to 150 or 150 to 180 and the performance gain is just a couple of bhp, in case of pulsar everything remains same visually and mechanically. So thats why if people want to upgrade from their 180 or even 220, IMO its a worthy upgrade.
