Calculations of Petrol Prices in India

See the amount of taxes. They could bear the corruption but can't bear the reduction in taxes.

                            • Another hike :-)
I am not against the hikes per se, considering that oil companies are still losing 4Rs a liter, even after the hike.
All those who cry against the tax component, please remember that government is able to give subsidy on kerosene and LPG because of the tax component only. While petrol prices in this country are higher than other countries with similar economic setup, LPG and kerosene are among the lowest.
Even with this hike, there is tremendous subsidy burden on the government and still oil companies are losing money. If i remember correctly, its half a percent of the indian economy. Thats how huge the impact is.
Because of the west asia conflict, oil prices have climbed up for quite some time since january - almost 20%. Because of the impending elections, the government didn't hike the prices immediately (as in, exerted pressure on the oil companies not to increase prices) Now is the time. Can't help it.
Also, if you still have anger against the government, some of it can be directed against state govts too :-) For eg. the left front in WB charged 25% as sales tax while they were always the first on the streets whenever there was a hike. Food for thought ?

Eventually, petrol prices will definitely go through the roof. Remember, its a perishable resource.

What we really need are more relevant green technologies. There has been a reduction in tax on electric vehicles this year. A neighbour bought one Hero EV for 24k on road. 70 km run at 25kmph. Perfect for a city runabout.
