  • In a sense it is good that petrol prices are increasing. This will give much needed boost to alternative energy sources. In fact, synthetically made petrol is also under development, and high fuel prices will fuel (pun intended) the research in the new technologies and that will eventually drive out the conventional petrol to obscurity.

    • It's not true that oil companies are losing money, that's just how they manipulate media. As such, they are not losing any money on petrol, it's only on diesel, lpg & kerosene. And, I believe it's a clever way of pushing electric bikes!! I believe there is some sort of subsidy on electric 2-wheelers now, isn't it?
Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

Sir ji.. petrol price is used to offset the huge loss due to kerosene (almost 30Rs a liter), LPG (almost 330Rs a cylinder) and diesel (16 plus rupees a liter)
Why petrol only ? Because diesel is used in trucks etc which move goods across the nation. Hence, any rise in diesel price will impact inflation. Hundreds of Millions in India depend on kerosene for cooking and other stuff. If you start selling all that at market price or for that matter LPG at market price, can you imagine the anarchy. Similarly, LPG is used by millions for cooking. This is cost which cannot be avoided.
You can offset the 5 rupee hike by driving a bit saner or by walking for small distances.
Same cannot be done for cooking gas. Chaai banaane ke liye utnhi hi gas use hogi !!

Also, FYI, at current oil prices, the three companies are set to lose 180,000 CRORES.

Electric bikes should definitely be pushed on the forefront because ultimately they are the conveyances which will help us reduce the dependency on petrol.

        • instead of taxing petrol , private diesel cars should be taxed as they are using subsidies not meant for them as well as polluting the environment .

                            What explanation??

Excise duty: This tax is applicable to every good that is manufactured in India. You can say that it is a tax for producing a good in India. Petrol is manufactured from processing Crude oil in India by several countries and hence this tax. (This goes to Central government account)

Education Tax: Even I don't know what this is doing in Fuel segment.

VAT: State government tax that is applied to every good that is sold in that particular state. This tax goes into the account of State government unlike the excise duty.

Custom Duty: Every thing that is imported into India has tobe paid a specific amount of tax. This has a great importance.

Hope this helps. What more you want to know..

Can't really blame the government?? Really?!

For CWG, they bought an umbrella each for Rs. 6000, and curtains for Rs. 2000 each.
Heck, if I was the minister I would have got done the work in 4 times lesser cost. And yes, without falling overhead bridges in the process...
Go to a goddamned hardware shop, and ask him how much a big umbrella costs? Even the biggest cheat business man wouln't say Rs. 6000 per piece, specially not the wholesale rate.

The spare money from the CWG savings or 2G spectrum income could have gone to petrol subsidies. Thank you Mr. Kalmadi & Mr. Raja. I wish to give Rs. 1000 to the man who threw his slipper at Kalmadi in Delhi!
