bro..................cost of fuel is not determined by ...........how many miles per litre.........mileage of vehicle.........it is determined by cost of production and taxes.

    no need of aviation engineering........

and rich people travel in aeroplanes........it is a luxury and should be taxed more than normal petrol..........

petrol is a basic neccessity now....

      • Jet fuel is basically kerosene with additives.Jet fuel has a higher octane rating compared to petrol, usually rated above 110.Kerosene falls between gasoline(petrol) and diesel in the refining process. So it is cheaper to make than petrol. Then they add additives and other stuff to make it as required and use it as jet fuel.Still taxes should be imposed on such fuel.

        • A slight depreciation in petrol price in Kerala. Rs. 1.22 reduced. New rates in existence from this midnight.

You are partially right and partially wrong... Yes, ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) is kerosene (a highly purified form of kerosene) but it is not necessarily of a higher octane rating as suggested by you... it is for use in turbine engines where there is no enclosed compression chamber... the 110 octane is for Aviation Gasoline (or petrol) which is used for piston engine aircrafts... incidentally we use to use the aviation gasoline from the fuel depot at Juhu airport when the airport was used for racing...

                    • A weird thought came to mind while refueling the bike today..

                      Diesel costs Rs 38/litre.
                      Petrol costs Rs 68/litre.

I was wondering if my bike returns 30kmpl and a diesel Swift returns 20kmpl,the running costs per km would be like Rs 2.26 and Rs.1.9 respectively..

Food for thought,Bikes are no more cheaper to run than cars(diesel).

PS:To those wondering about the fuel efficiency figures,my bike does actually return 30kmpl and sometimes even less if ripped hard.Swift diesel,I have heard from many of my relatives/friends the mileage to be in between 18-20kmpl.
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

                        A320 specs
                        fuel tank :30k litres
                        range : 5.4k km
                        passengers : 150

                        Avg = 0.18 kmpl
                        Avg / passenger = 27kmpl

                        A380 specs
                        Fuel tank: 323546 litres
                        Range: 15.2k km
                        Seating:

                        Avg : 0.047 kmpl
                        Avg /Passenger :
                        Case #1: 40.07 kmpl
                        Case #2: 24.66 kmpl

Average fuel economy of a standard 1.2l Petrol Hatchback : 13/14kmpl
Average fuel economy of my Pulsar 220 : 35-40 kmpl

An (All Economy class) Airbus A380 spends equal/a bit less fuel than I normally do when I am touring(Solo). Now why should it be called elitist / luxury ?
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

                          • ^^^ the cargo component is not added in the calculations... if the same is added then the cost per mile efficiency will be even greater...

2 reasons why i feel that this calculation may be wrong..

                              1) This might be the maximum range (range given by airbus under standard test conditions).. The actual range might be much less.

                              2) no flight is 100% occupied all the time. So the number of passengers would decrease and as a result the avg/passenger would increase.

if you calculate A320/380---mileage based on fully loaded figures.
then you should consider your bike also to be fully loaded, i.e. with pillion.

in that case per person mileage of your bike is 70-80 kmpl as compared to 25-30 kmpl of aeroplane
