Well afaik, they didnot hike the petrol prices as the elections were scheduled for 2009. Else we all know what would have happened. Correct me if im wrongOriginally posted by antz.bin View PostCrude oil: Weekly Chart (Last 200 weeks)
Also, before cursing the government, we must not forget that the govt. had artificially kept the Petrol prices in the Rs.40-Rs.50 region back in 2008-09 so that the common man does not suffer even though Crude was trading @ $130-$140 at the time.Last edited by shirish; 08-16-2011, 02:45 PM.karizmatic

According to Yahoo. PSUs are considering another round of petrol price hike as losses have mounted to Rs.3 per liter of petrol sold as prices of crude have gone on to hit $109.37 a barrel on Monday from an average of $107.24 in August end.
Since its deregulation, Petrol has been rising at the speed of light! Prices have increased many times since last June (when it was deregulated) and the current price at most places is approximately 50% over the price before deregulation. A shocker came in May this year when petrol was hiked by Rs.5 per liter in one of the steepest hikes ever.Don't Honk Unnecessarily

The actual cost of petrol
I suppose there is no logic in still taxing petrol and diesel so high and crying foul that oil cos are losing money selling them. The high taxes made sense may be a few decades ago when personal transport was deemed to be a luxury and hence the high taxes. Indirect taxes and Service tax flows were non-existant then and the old logic no longer is valid. I wonder how many of the developing coutries squeeze this kind of tax on petroleum products.
