Didn't claim Coal as a source for fission, was talking about non-renewables in general. As for the fission sources, plutonium was on my mind too.

international oil prices are not going to stay at this low level forever. the extra duties imposed are being used to fund the strategic reserve, which can be used to protect domestic consumers from major shock in case of sudden spike in international prices.
it also discourages consumer to splurge on fuel, which creates a massive import burden on the economy. time to move to electric, I say.

Still. We're nowhere near the once sky high price of $120/barrell. We're just over half of it right now but already petrol has hit 70+ rupees/litre. Imagine what the price of petrol will be if the oil goes back to 120

This reminds me of importance middle-class in every economy, esp developing ones. All that matters is, the top players with big-arse deep-pockets should not get away with applicable taxes.

There are many documentaries, studies pertaining to it; Nordic countries have addressed it well. One such documentary that I've come across recently is : Inequality for All (2013)

Apparently, most of today's markets/economies are vicious cycles with +ve/-ve feedback. Multimedia may be a good example, observe the quality of movies, TV-series etc.

Simply put:
If you're paying taxes honestly then make sure of at least one person who is earning more than you is not evading taxes.

There is no shortage of taxing-instruments in India, there are only loopholes.

Does anybody has any idea about how much these taxes on automotive-fuels add up in comparison total quarterly/yearly revenues?
