  • This is a much awaited move by Yamaha, This was on the card from January itself but due to the fact that the R15 V1s are produced a lot, and waiting for sales, the management decided to delay the V2s,,,,,, But Now they have to release this revamped version to get market attention because their Rivalries 250cc release is close to the R15's Price,

Except engine almost all the parts of the R15 is getting manufactured in INDIA, so the reduction in price is not gonna make a hole in their pocket and Guys the sad Thing is no Increase in Power, perhaps a slight increase will be on the feel but to be on the specs point of view we will all be disappointed (Source :from a close friend from Yamaha SVC)

In my knowledge initial R15s did have imported engines but later (after a year or so) company started making them locally in India, however the benefit of localization was not passed on to the customer. If I am not wrong, the engines are even labelled with "Made in India" tag now.

        • with same engine & power how can new R15 be a better performer then current R15? with new chasis..fatter tyre n all..will Yamaha make an under powered bike which will perform even under the current version? highly doubtful..
only thing which can balance this out is the weight of new R15 seems to be lesser then current R15..let's see..

Shouldn't revised gear-ratios help? I mean,if the power is same the only thing that can make difference is gearing..I have no idea, would like to hear from others..

And I think at 131 kg the R15 is the lightest bike..They have to do some extraordinary things to get the same or more power:weight from the new one.
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

It'll DEEP FRY the under thighs of the pillion.. Also, about your previous post regarding EXPENSIVE 6 Speed Gearbox, the Suzuki GS150R has got a 6 Speed Gearbox.. And, thats not expensive.. Yamaha charges a premium for the package as a WHOLE and not just the Engine and Gearbox.. Please don't get all acted up.. Enjoy the spread of 100+ pages of info & crap before commenting..

                    Safe Riding.. Cheers..

Yes, revised gearing makes a HUGE difference in terms of real world performance.. Even if the new R15 comes without a power increase, it should be as good as the old R15 in terms of acceleration and in-gear speeds due to a bigger rear sprocket.. Although Top-End might suffer.. All this speculation of mine based on the picture of Visordown showing the rear sprocket and on the assumption that the power output remains the same..

P.S. - Praying that it doesn't come with the same power output..

                      • @deepan: It would look really good with the split seats in place. But my guess would be it would cost a bit.
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

                          • I had been to Kamla Yamaha(Most Mumbai xBhpians must be aware of it, quite famous in South Mumbai) in the afternoon to buy some spare parts as I'll be leaving for Ladakh ride in few days time. Asked the supervisor about the new R15 and the leaked pics on the internet. I asked him, there are speculations that it's a higher than 150CC machine and some even say it's got 20+ BHPs? All he said was 'it's a 150CC machine with some engine tweaks for performance and should be out by July end.'
