  • Completely Re-Engineered Pulsars to hit by year end

Well, I know there's a 2011 Bike Launch Speculation thread, but this piece of news needs more respect than that, because this is coming from a source on which I can believe with my eyes closed.

Bajaj Auto couldn't have found a better way to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Bajaj Pulsars.

As per the interview with Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, posted by BS Motoring in their Feb, 2011 issue -
    • The new Pulsars would be having their engine parts shared from the KTM, which makes a lot of sense as I've always believed that Pulsars are very strongly influenced by KTM (personal view)

    • Four valve per cylinder engine. Again, the twist in the tale is, they would be available both in liquid cooled and air cooled versions. Well that would be interesting to see, as definitely there would be a difference in price and performance in both the versions. Would the air cooled version prove to be cannibalistic sibling... only time would tell.

    • Styling would be completely done by Bajaj.

It's being said that come April 2011, Bajaj would be promoting Pulsar as a stand alone brand and would be removing the "Bajaj" tag from it, a first of it's kind by any Indian manufacturer. Now comes this news. Really, Bajaj is taking it big literally.

More to be found in BSM's Feb issue.

While its good to see such new developments & we thank for the competition that will be good for all our bikers, there're two things on my mind...
        1. Servicing - There should be only about 5% of the entire biking community or less who're really happy about servicing their vehicle at A.S.S. With the number of motorcycles increasing day by day & still unable to meet the expectation, how're they going to handle this sudden splurge? I hope they do something to improvise.

        2. While we thank the competition, that also leaves us to confusion. How does one choose their ride? I see it almost getting to a stage of selecting a hatchback in India where the price ranges from 2.2L to 8L. But in a way its good, we're seeing an entirely new segment that is emerging apart from the commuter & SBK segment.

Plus who knows the actual delivery of the bikes might be even longer (from official launch, booking and then to actual delivery).

Mr. Rajiv Bajaj likes Ducati and KTM. He had a Monster if i am not wrong. And the Pulsars were actually inspired from the Monster. The construction under the tank and wiring is similar to Ducati. I observed this when i first sat on one.

So what we will actually see is Mr. Bajaj's interpretation and desire of an Indian Ducati and KTM.[The current 220 does look like a Duc 999]

                    No second thoughts on this!!!

                    Pulsar UG1 reminds Ducati Monster
Pulsar 135LS reminds Ducati Street Fighter

The Bajaj logo (which people loved to flick) will no longer be there.

This is in line with Bajaj's direction to focus on the brands - Pulsar, Discover etc which makes sense as the bikes have a strong recall value.

Its good to see Indian Biking scenario is Growing Pretty fast, But Honestly I disagree with Rajiv's Call on taking "Bajaj" out of Bajaj Bikes. Remember Pulsar and Discover models Grew up with the support of Slogan "Hamara Bajaj." Now As they have established themselves They don't need Bajaj anymore.... I pity them..

On the contrary, marketing experts would agree with Bajaj's strategy and here is why. The Discover & the Pulsar brands are very strong and they are doing excellent numbers these days. More importantly the brands are fresh and dynamic. In comparison the Bajaj brand is more old-school and the company would like it to be associated with younger brands, products and audience.

This is a good move by Bajaj indeed but I hope that Bajaj would not end up doing what Hero Honda is well known for, stickering and recoloring!

I expect to see some serious enhancements in design, performance and build quality of Bajaj bikes. Not that the current ones are not good or anything but there is sure a lot of scope of improvement for Bajaj.

All Indians would be proud of Bajaj if they can build bikes which can compete with the global leaders in local as well as international markets and emerge as winners!!

                              Good luck Bajaj!!
