Pricing is key.. if it's priced at 1.5L, surely some buyers will be turned off or may be tempted to go for CBR250 making a slight compromise on performance if needed (assuming Duke 200 will pack a punch in performance dept.). But, for those who want a good city bike at that price will surely go for Duke 200.

I don't think that's the case in India.. so far you got R15, ZMR & CBR250 as premium bikes with price tag over 1 lakh. We need to wait and see what effect Duke will have with that kind of price tag.Originally posted by Hyperion View Post

I kind of agree with with this view. Most indian motorcycling population (commuter, poser, attention seekers) go for three Fs when buying a bike around this price tag. Fairing, Fat Tyre and Fast. Even if two of these three things are true, they will buy it.Originally posted by Satellite.kid View Post@lockhrt999: Think about it, KTM is almost here and new pulsar range is not very far either. Pulsar will/shall remain killer value for money product meant for MASSES. The upcoming pulsars have been speculated to share technological tit bits with KTM, so they'll be considerably different from anything the current pulsars offer. Still, they'll remain a product meant for masses. Bajaj will target good numbers with these. Having said that, Bajaj can position KTM as a niche product if they may. Because definitely it won't be meant to sell like hot cakes. But as I said, acceptance in the market matters the most.
Having said that, I see bajaj trying to align itself on the strategy that Yamaha is using. The Pulsar will be for the masses just as the FZ is. What has been working in Bajaj's favor for instance with the 220, is that its semi faired but packs more punch than an FZ and comes for a tad bit higher cost.
On the other hand you have R15, which is a killer bike, competes with 220 but to many, is the better looking bike. Again Fairing and Fast. Now with a fat tyre too. I see KTM trying to be in this space. However it will be urban fast and not highway fast.
It will still attract a good crowd. 220 without a full fairing is very popular. The sales numbers are more than R15. KTM might score over the one five 2.0 on practicality from a fairing point of view. I dont think it is aimed at competing with CBR.
Just my opinion>-----R One Fly----->>

Most of the Indian crowd gone crazy over fully fared bikes....True.
IMHO......there is nothing to blame about them, Since early age - 80s how many fully fared bike manufactured for mass in India ? None !
(please exclude the SBK,they are not for Mango People)
All we got semi fared or bikini faring for ages till 2008,when R15 hit the Indian Road AFAIK
. That 1st bike which rolled out form factory gate with fully faring cloth. Then ZMR ---> Ninja 250(SBK though) --->C250R.
My point is once the certain amount of fully faired bike produce for mass, the attraction will eventually come down.
And yeah that to apply for skinny --->fat Tyre too
.
Just my opinion

+1 that's the price range it should be priced. A very cool bike to ride with considering the weight/power ratio. The upside forks is really exciting too.
@All... Anyone knows which will be the tyres used for our country. As I can see the specs the front is 110/70/R17 it will be the suitable for CBR250R. Waiting for a replacement for the ContiGo
A max of 140 section rear tyre will be more suited rather than the 150 one.sigpic...Ride Long...Ride Safe...

Honda or Yamaha can get away with a failed product after investing such huge money, bajaj can't. Remember buying a part of company is a lot different than licensing some technology. No Indian 2-wheeler company has done is before. Lots of things are at stake here.
The 125/200 Duke have been developed keeping in mind the developed markets. Its just good fortune for us Indians that its been co developed and manufactured in India.
If Bajaj and KTM wants, it can decide not even to sell the 200 Duke in India at all. It's not a "Game of Luck" for BAL-KTM but a case of "Lucky Indians".

Does a 25bhp light weight machine really need a fairing to be faster than a 21bhp heavier machine?Originally posted by lockhrt999 View PostWithout fairing, I really doubt it will be the fastest Indian. On the other hand, I think it has potential of being the 'Quickest Indian'.
The reason Naked's don't sell in the west is because Motorcycles are mainly used for touring and not commuting.Originally posted by Hyperion View Post. Same is the case in US, nakeds just dont sell as much there (an important reason why Kawasaki launched the Ninja 1000 along side Z1000).Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

Positive:
KTM Duke 200 coming to India..ahaaan!!! 200cc Segment reborn. Thanks to Bajaj Auto Limited. Looking at the engine specs the bike looks pure evil and a complete street fighter. Looks completely adaptable to the Indian road conditions. Having a look at the weight and kind of torque it will generate, it will be hard to hold on to the handle bars

Negative:
Fuel tank capacity: 10.5 litres! (No no for the touring bikers)
Rest lets see what happens when it hits the tarmac. Cheers
PS: Pulsar 220 is now India No. 1 Sports bike! Hunto! :P

So, touring bikeRs don't stop even once in 300Kms?Fuel tank capacity: 10.5 litres! (No no for the touring bikers)
I guess even 10.5 is good. Even if it gives only 30Kmpl, it means 300Kms at once.
And not everyone takes a bike for tours only. Tours happen only once in a month or so.2000 - Hero Honda Splendor
2010 - Pulsar 220
2012 - Ninja 250R or CBR 250R (coming Up)
