Why would there be a detuning in the first place?do we have laws that restrict a 200cc engine to some certain power output?
    Smoke rubber,not tobacco.

Detuning is normally done to ensure that the 'High Quality' Indian fuel would not cause the bike to breakdown.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

what's with the front disc here..?
in highlights - it says its 280mm in specs - it's shown as 300mm

by the looks of the image i find it to be 280mm since its looking smaller than that of CBR 250R
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Hey bro, Indian fuel quality is good enough for Ninja 250 with slightly higher compression ratio. So, I would expect that it is good enough for Duke 200.

I am admittedly a noob in this. So someone mind explaining what all is done as a part of detuning process? please Or would you say - Go Google!

The power figures are super-impressive. But after seeing the pics of the rider on the bike, diminutive is the word which comes to mind. But lets see how much it is priced at. Pricing will be the key here.

And if it not detuned and produces around 25PS then i see it eating the CBR, but then the CBR is already too close in the quarter mile run to the Ninja. So what compels me to think is will Bajaj/KTM risk it to make a bike which is actually as quick(if not quicker) as their flagship model.

Well, I don't think Kawasaki Ninja is flag ship of Bajaj/KTM. But Duke 200 certainly is, atleast for the time being, before they release Duke 350 in 2013 or whenever. So, I won't be surprised if Bajaj makes it as quick as Ninja 250.

The on paper power to weight ratio of the Ninja 250R and the KTM 200 Duke is actually quite close.

The Ninja 250R has a power to weight ratio of 192 (33 Ps/ 172 Kgs kerb) and that of the 200 Duke is 187 (25.6 Ps/137 kgs kerb [according to autocar India]). And by the way the Ninja is a Kawasaki product.. can't be called a Bajaj or KTM product.

I have my doubts if that is their real intention.

For me, the Duke would serve a very niche market. Would appeal more to those who are looking for a 'second fun-fast-weekend-city' bike. It would surely wont have the universal appeal like the CBR/Ninja.

                            .
And as a prospective 200 Duke Owner, I would love exactly that [You can even add the R15 to that list]

This Biker Next Door now wants a little exclusivity at an "slightly premium yet affordable" price tag.

Yes, i understand your point but i have had enough of my share of 'compact' bikes. I need something big now.

                              Hopefully AE12 has something new!!

haha apart from that, I think there are too many naked bike lovers out there looking for a ride just like Duke 200. I feel there is a considerable market for a naked bike of this kind, which is not really addressed so far. I for one, would any day go with a naked bike.
