The bike has power close to the CBR. Also the fact that it has a 6th gear could give it the gear ratios for a top speed exceeding 135.. 6th for overdrive like the r15Originally posted by R-series View PostKeep in mind "short gearing", fast acceleration..top speed was not kept in mind while making it a fast accelerating bike

Agreed, but KTM/Bajaj claims of 3.33 secs for 60 proves that its not distinctly great in acceleration as Ninja 250 can do it in 3 secs and CBR with ABS (6kg more than the stock one) can do it in 3.5 secs!!
So I beleive its not short geared and would definitely have a top speed above 150!! come on a 150cc, R15 can do 130+ genuine with the same tech and revs.... and mind you R15's acceleration is in no terms less for a 150... it does 0-60 in 4.9 secs.. perfectly acceptable....

the bike looks awesome. Only eyesore-the number plate above headlight (but buyers can remove and sticker the nos).
I hope the whole city will be painted with KTM Orange bikes if priced sensibly!
The autocar india review just details out the specs. Waiting for XBhp treatment of this KTM

Your facebook status reads "Thanks to KTM and Bajaj for making this awesome bike"!...so that is enough for a confession of a test rider!!!

Whoever that baby Duke might look puny just because lack of fairing can actually look at these pictures now to feel how big & beefy it looks. Not a puny looking bike, whichever way you look at it. Can't wait to read the XBHP review

i have a slight doubt that the top whack mentioned of KTM in other websites may be wrong. the reason being, with kind of power to weight ratio the KTM200 has, it might not need any special short gearing to beat CBR in 0-60 timings. otherwise also extra short gearing means frequent gear shifts, and a lot of people might not like it and it also reduces the driveability of the bike.
although, i may be wrong, but there is a slight chance that i may be right.
i don't know whether what i am writing is logical or just my wishful thinking blinding my logic.
i just hope it has a true top end of 150 KMPH with me (95kgs) riding it. Am i demanding too much ??Last edited by princesirohi; 12-06-2011, 02:19 AM.

Nope, your demands are perfectly logical & reasonable. Don't think the speculated 0-60kmph times are extraordinary, when compared with CBR250/Ninja 250 and it doesn't require any short gearing with the kind of weight/power Duke has. I too hope that Duke 200 will have top end of 150kmph.Originally posted by princesirohi View Post

^^^ ha ha ha, here i was speculating on the KTM200 when suddenly in the middle of night, Zigwheels came up with there story of test ride today at chakan track. it seems bajaj auto had invited a lot of people today at chakan for test ride. i mean yesterday, sorry.
now the important part.
the bike handles well and is an excellent bike.
the bike has a taller first gear and then short 2nd, 3rd & 4th, the author has not mentioned about 5th & 6th gears so i guess they are not short.
the author mentions a top speed of 135 KMPH.
although i am still hoping that xbhp test comes up with better figures but i guess it is not more than 140.
also i do not know how long is the straight section of track at chakan plant and whether it is sufficient to test a bike's true top speed.
you guys read the ride report here - KTM 200 Duke: First Ride Page - 1| Zigwheels.com
and top speed figure here - KTM 200 Duke: Specifications| Zigwheels.com
enjoy.
now, i know what to expect from xbhp ride report and i may go to sleep now... peacefully.
the price is not out yet but 1.25 is a pretty reasonable one. overprice it and loose saleability - underprice it and loose exclusivity.Last edited by princesirohi; 12-06-2011, 03:01 AM.
