That's what I was thinking as well. It's a legitimate concern...Originally posted by tusharsmoily View PostDuke 390 has a higher compression ratio than the Duke 200. So it'll definitely demand a higher octane rating fuel. Not something we get in the petrol pumps of highways, don't we?
Even my Duke 200 runs noticeably smoother on premium petrol than normal one in lower rpms.
Compression ratio is on official KTM website, btw.

Its just that they need to be more on the soft side....or someway providing more traction in order to keep the powerful duke 390 under ones control. Yaah the tyres as of 200 duke are quite potent. But that 45ps on rear with such light weight might let the tyre skid or loose traction. The bike for sure will be too much of a hooligan.Originally posted by dishayu View PostWhat do you mean the same section tyres won't be able to sustain that power? The tyre is HUGE! I'm reasonably sure that 43 bhp isn't nearly enough to break traction on proper tarmac (unless you intend to).Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

@Praful - Source is there on all over the internet. You just have to search on Google. However, I am posting one such link here - 2013 KTM 390 Duke First Look Review- Photos Duke 390 has a compression ratio of 12.6 : 1, which I feel is really large atleast when compared to the Duke 200 and Ninja 250R. Even the official site recommends 95 RON petrol. Petrol pumps at highway don't stock such high octane petrol, right? Maybe that's a minus point for tourers. I hope that I am wrong.Last edited by tusharsmoily; 04-03-2013, 07:54 PM.

I personal visit to the ktm mumbai East showroom today revealed a few details....1. ninja 300 bookings have officially opened. Price is in the range of 4.00L. 2. duke 390 dealer launch on 10th april but bookings to commence April end and may deliveries.
3. Metzeler tyres confirmed. For the souls worried about tyres being incapable, these are awesomeness! 4. The mechanics haven't been sent for training yet for the new duke 390. Hence deliveries are possibly a month away atleast if I am being realistic....(which I hate)

As someone metioned previously. The Indian website has majorly been copy-pasted. The Duke 200 (india) page last year said 91 RON. It says 91 RON in the manual as well, if my memory serves me right. 95RON recommendation holds good for Europe.Originally posted by Praful View PostThe official website recommends 95RON fuel even for the Duke 200.

I don't think Bajaj will be making two different assembly lines for the domestic and local market.Originally posted by dishayu View PostAs someone metioned previously. Also, its Bajaj they obviously know the local market and fuel quality. So they won't be so stupid to release a product that works only Tier - I and a few Tier - II cities._________________________

As far as i understand it's not a different assembly. Just a diffrerent engine map.Originally posted by Praful View PostI don't think Bajaj will be making two different assembly lines for the domestic and local market.

Ok no point in discussing something we can't be too sure about.Originally posted by dishayu View PostAs far as i understand it's not a different assembly. Just a diffrerent engine map.
But I'm sure Bajaj won't release a bike in India that can't be run on the kind of fuel we get here._________________________

91RON shouldnt be a problem. One can feed their bikes that. It works just fine. Superbikes here are using 91RON ...infact my fellow pal owns a GT650 and has been using 91 for quite a time now. Prior to that he used the usual 89RON which was available here. It works great.
yaah if one is too concerned about the in cylinder opertions thinking day down over ignition delays and pre mixed combustion phases or flame propgation etc. he can go bragging about 95RON. Coz these things effect in a very very minute degree. Experiencing that and manipulating that is way far in our reach i guess. RON 91 will work fine.Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

So, KTM Bangalore has starting calling customers who have shown interest in the 390 earlier. And asking them on a scale of 1-10 how interested are they in the product and would they like to be in the delivery list.
No updates on when and how much yet, but I guess its around the corner._________________________
