  • Thanks to you for posting the very first pictures! And no wars, guaranteed. The last thing we want to do would be waging forum wars here, inspite of the Japs launching their flagship models, at last, in India!

Rightly said, the CB 1000R is one of the (if not THE) best naked bikes around this side of the Brutale perhaps (I also LOVE the Z1000 though. ). But nonetheless, if I have the faintest of chance of getting any other bike other than the R1, the CB 1000R would be it.

I need to seriously think about it and work towards it!

      Ideally, get BOTH!!!

These bikes are really GREAT fun to ride. I recently did a longish test ride on the FZ1. It was Soooo much fun without straining your wrists and breaking your back. I am sure the CB would be something similar to ride.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

              • Finally my fav. bike is in India and that too legally.

Fireblade here i come(Ok wait for the time till i save up that much of money)

Launching CB1000R @ 9.5L is a steal (Atleast looking at the price of other superbikes available in India.)

Now people like me can dream and try harder to get to the bike of our dreams. No hastle of importing at all....

                • So only 2 colours for each bike? No red/black or the HRC scheme for the CBR? I wonder how they think when they do such things.

                    • The thing to note is that the ABS version of the CBR 1000RR is launched!! Hence, the price-tag has further shot up, finally at Rs.12,50,000/-.

                        Folks,

Great, the bikes will be on Sale from MAR 09, hurray.

Talking to my folks at home to come up with a STRATEGY to get one of these in the next couple of years

BTW, do you guys know where Honda is going to place the Number Plate & Saree Guard. The are missing at the time of launch.

Wonder where HONDA is going to place them

Be it a 50cc/1600cc Bike the Saree guard is a must in INDIA! (SBK's are no Exception)

Busa is a different category altogether. Can't compare the prices of a Busa and the litre bikes. There are obvious reasons why the Busa has a higher price.

There are a couple of points we are missing here...

1, CBR Fireblade is equipped with ABS, its not a cheap piece of tech, so the price will be higher. (Its was tested by MCUSA, MCN etc and they say its the best ABS on a road bike they have ever ridden.)

2, In USA, CBR1000RR retails at a base MRP 12,999. Busa retails at 13,199...
a difference of $200 (Rs.10,000 only) and busa has no ABS. So i think CBR makes it more than even here... fair enough for me!!

Okay for starters, those are not major factors in the pricing of a bike. As for the test reports, I don't really go by them beyond a certain extent.

The major reason for the higher price of the CBR is the value of the rupee against the dollar. When Yamaha imported their R1s and MT-01s, the rupee was far stronger against the dollar than it is now. That's one reason, and the biggest reason if you ask me.

Secondly, we cannot compare the US selling prices of these bikes and link it to the prices here. Simply because the pricing strategy for the US market is completely different than say, the UK, Australia or now, India. It is still not clear where we are getting these bikes from, so it is hard to pin a value on it and say it is more costlier than "x" country.

Bottomline, the CBR, and the R1 are the 2 litre bikes on the market available legally. Compare the prices, and there you have your answer. Forget ABS, and any other thingamajig the Blade has, which the R1 doesnt.

The rupee value against dollar thing is correct.. thats it..
Its totally fair to compare prices with US or other markets coz what we are getting here are CBUs from Australian market.. convert the pricing, add duties & other charges and you'll figure out that the pricing here is almost identical!!
Moreover, 2009 R1 will have a revised pricing, it has hiked across all markets.. not sure if it will be near CBR but will be higher than 08 r1.

And you can't just forget or ignore ABS.. unless we are hellbent on arguing that Honda has higher prices for no good reason... its an expansive equiment for a bike!

Only the Yamahas, and that too the initial bikes were from Australia. We are still getting the same Euro spec R1s, but I'm not sure where the bikes were sourced from for subsequent shipments.

And Honda has not confirmed the location where the bikes are getting imported, so we still cannot do a price comparison.

Secondly,if you want to compare the pricing of other markets, please keep in mind that you are quoting MSRP prices, which is always higher than what it actually is.

Thirdly, google the price of an MT-01 abroad, and add your taxes, everything else, and compare the price of the MT-01 there and here. Google the price of an Australian 2007/08 R1, and compare it to the price here. You will have your answer.

Four: Nobody in Yamaha has stated anything about the 2009 R1. Nobody knows if it's even going to come to India through the legal route. So, any talk about the price is very premature.

How expensive by your reckoning? And I'm really not saying Honda has higher prices for no good reason. It's just that they've been caught at the wrong end of a forex slide, just like Suzuki has with their Busa.
