Then it's time for some soaking wet dreams I guess. Read somewhere that the price will be around 2.25L.

let sports tourers be with Bajaj brand and a full-sport type with KTM.. and it sure looks like it will deliver on that..

SImilar news from two other sources:

Okay, so this is what the KTM RC390 would be like - Motoroids.com

                &

KTM RC 390 photographs and expected price

The only let down is 10 liter tank and wish it not to be underbelly exhaust (I remember a rainy day, my bike was submerged in water up to half of its tyres).

But specially liked the head lamps. Two are always better for night riders.

People should correct me if I am wrong. So honestly, this is possible. But wait, would this be legal?
                  ....

I don't think this will be possible on a Duke 390...because of this (quote from Visordown):

                  FRAME
Visually similar to the lightweight and approved Duke steel trellis frame, the orange painted frame has been modified to better fit the supersport ergonomics and dynamics. The increase of the steering head angle to 66,5 degrees results in a shorter trail, shorter wheelbase and increased ground clearance. All these modifications release the complete racing potential of the RC and guarantee quick, agile and playful handling.

Since the above changes have been done, even though little, will not make it possible to change a stock D390 into an RC without modifications as mentioned above. And that, in my opinion, will not be preferable. The D390 should remain as it is...that is why there's a different variant. Moreover, the fuel tank is completely different in the RC from Duke. .... This isn't a simple case like that of an FZ-16 and the Fazer.

I just wish that they go with completely new gearbox with the RC variant. I like how the 200 Duke hits the rev limiter in 6th. It's the gearing of the 390 Duke that kills it for me. Shorter gears + 165 in 6th at rev limit = perfect RC390.

If this is launched at or below 2.5L on road...we get killer looks with killer pricing & specs bundled together. Would turn out to be a perfect weekend bike for those who cannot afford a 600 but want to have fun at the same time.

I know you prefer it that way..I guess you have mentioned something similar somewhere else as well

But I guess the gearing of the Duke 390 will greatly suite the RC variant more. The 390 is geared taller and that makes it more relaxed and stress free even at 130+, but due to lack of any wind protection the rider may feel uncomfortable soon. So the RC will feel great with similar gearing at high speeds. With gearing like the D200, it will hit the rev limiter more often and while it be a cool feeling, but personally I wouldn't like to be forced into hitting the limiter often (something the D200 forces). I would like to do that only when I would want to do that. The RC will still be so rev happy that hitting the red line will be a cake walk

Sexy is an understatement here. Its a fantastic looking machine and boy, KTM surely has some artistry in its garage. Mean and powerful- Ninja you have met the competition, finally.

Have to say, the Ninja 300 has met its match. Rode both the 390 Duke and the Ninja 300 back to back the other day.

Ninja 300: Have to say that the Ninja 300 is a smooth and refined machine. One just doesn't get to know how fast the bike builds speed. It is so stable and secure that you don't get intimidated. It is definitely the best bike for guys before graduating to 600-1000 cc bikes.

But this also becomes the Ninja's drawback. One just doesn't get scared on the Ninja 300. Its appears boring to a point and eventually the bike doesn't seem to have character (Its got a gentleman like character to it all right). Plus the commuter friendly riding position on the Ninja 300 adds to the lack of character.

390 Duke: The 390 Duke is totally opposite to the Ninja 300 in character. From the work go, it is one hell of a "josh machine". The first 4 gears are short which makes for very brisk neck jerking acceleration. But the 390 doesn't suffer from the "peaking so soon" syndrome of the 200 Duke. There is enough poke left in each gear. The 5th and 6th are relaxed and delightfully and adequately tall. The way the Duke builds speed actually scares even seasoned riders.

The ABS and the Sweet Super Sticky tyres does a good job at not allowing the rider to kill himself. The 390 Duke feels alive, the 390 Duke makes you feel alive, it makes your heart pound, it doesn't let you take it for granted. The 390 Duke feels like its got "character".

                                :

Am expecting the RC390 to be an even killer package thanks to its revised Super Sports handling and character, expecting the same engine and gearing (expecting it to be same as the 390 Duke). Plus the RC390 will have a true "back breaking" super sports riding position.. which is just great.

And with the RC390 being manufactured in Chakan (Pune), the deal will be killer to say the least. Definitely looks like the Ninja 300 has truly met its match this time.
