Well, if the price is in the higher side of 3L, cbr250 can save it's share to a good extent...as for us, a price difference of ~1L can be a decisive factor. Honda will be relieved for time being IMHO

Ya, i was just irritated with "speculation" that it might be a single where as i and few others have been telling its a twin and it will be a twin for india also. there is absolutely no proper reason for yamaha to give a single cyl to us.

And true about the ABS part. i wished for ABS too.

lastly, there is very high chance that the bike will "also" be manufactured in india bringing down the costs. and the pricing will be close to 2.5L for sure.

not sure why only CBR is being considered here. the r25, even as told by yamaha, is against Ninja250/300 and to take away customers who are planning for the ninja. it will make more sense that way. i think yamaha never really took cbr as the target since its targeted at different customer. when a current cbr owner (@teejayy ) is willing to buy a r25 then why not a prospective cbr/ninja buyer think of getting this.

Will it be a 300cc twin in India?
Will it be rolling out of Yamaha-India stables? or as CKD?

Whoaa !!!!! 5 hours only the news has been posted and we're already into the 4th page. I so like this craze about Yamaha. They launch a product in one corner of the world and there's a visible and sure excitement all across. Yes !! Yamaha !!!

As you've already said, in some other thread, that Yamaha is extending their manufacturing facility at Chennai, so hopefully it will be manufactured here only in India. In this way we can expect a sub 3L 2-cylinder 36PS Yamaha bike, with as usual the impeccable Yamaha handling.

I agree to the point. Yamaha didn't even consider CBR250 as the competition to R25. Why would they when they have their eyes fixed at N300/RC390/D390? N300 has got 39PS but with 3PS less, R25 is surely going to make up those shortcomings with superb areodynamics and handling. Top speed, I guess, would be near 165-166kmph which will be significantly great as the bike will face less crosswinds than similar naked bikes.

do we see some heating issues cropping up in Indian conditions or is Yamaha going to implement the R15 cooling system.

Well, the need for r25 was a long awaited, we all felt yamaha is lacking behind in this segment dominated by cbr (mass share) and ninja (premium share), leaving alone the street-nakeds available in that range. So we were expecting something from their stable to compete with the cbr250 and N250/300. When the specs are declared, we can see it's closer to N than cbr. So if they price it wisely, they can take away market shares of both cbr (big share-affordable price) and N (smaller share - premium price). I am sure they will not only targets kawasaki N, which has smaller martket share. So the price will play a vital role here. Well, if I have choice to select cbr250 and N300, and if money won't be an issue, i wont give a second thought for N, but if that extra 1-1.5L matters , well then I have to go for cbr!!! Hope yamaha will keep the price close to 3L.

                    nope, no 300cc.

there is a r25 being tested in india as we speak now.

max they might import the engine from Indonesia.

i dont think they are going against RC series. or even duke. duke and R25 are different categories. and RC series are about 125cc more. maybe in the pricing bracket they might face off thats all.

Looks more of a sports tourer than a sports bike!!! i mean i look at the new R125 and then i look at the R25 and its the R125 thats more focussed..
Also did you guys notice the uber ugly number plate section which extends down too much??

                      My R15 v2 looks better..

I feel this is a really nice looking bike and a twin for 250cc puts it in a different block as compared to CBR250. The styling though not aggressive is still cool and I bet they have extracted the max they can from the small twin. The performance and handling will add an edge to this as compared to its competitors and the only thing which we all need to care about is what OTR they can price it in?

All the 3 colours look great, don't you agree..

looks alright to me, very CBR250R-ish as expected...no where nearly as sharp and focussed, droolworthy and supersport as the R15v2 or R125...very upright riding position too it seems as the spy pics showed us indeed, but to be sure about that i suppose one has to actually sit on it...anyway, looks wise very CBR250R-ish and not much of a YZF-R type..from the front the headlight section is kickass looking, but from the side it's weird...

anyway, coming to the main thing, the power and torque figures are very impressive, although i think we all expected it to have at least 34-35 hp....this is a straight competitor to ninja 300 and 250R obviously..

at wet weight = 166kgs, it's less heavy than the ninja 250R (169kg), 300 (172 kg) and CBR250R (167 kg)...but a lesser weight would have been nicer..i expected a weight around 160-162kgs if not lesser...with the obvious yamaha handling characteristics, i think it's going to be a very good bike anyway..with revs all the way to 14000 and with 36 or so worth of horses pulling one's ass we indians will be left awestruck since we aren't use to such powers in our bikes (R15v2 still leaves me awestruck at 6000-9500 range of the revs and that's just 17-18 horses worth of ass pulling being done)...will sell very well i am sure...promising bike overall except for the very diehard sportbike enthusiast who will have a bit of a hard time deciding what to do.

however as i ranted in a post long ago in the other thread, this won't have sold well in the west because no one wants another better version of ninja or cbr there anymore..what they are desperate is a proper lightweight small superbike....that's why the YZF R3 that is supposed for europe and north america is probably going to be a full on proper supersport worth the millions of race tracks and empty road corners there...however it doesnt seem anymore that india will have the R3, not at least right from the time it is released...perhaps 4-5 years from now when they will update the R25 (here) or R3 (there).

so i think there is going to be a more supersport version 2.0 of this one too some years down the line :P

It looks like a sports tourer .
While one set of enthusiast feel bad another set rejoices .
If its riding position is like CBR 250 and with twin cyl it will be a great mile muncher .

Only 20% of the R15 owners bought it for its essence and rest bought it for something else (Just have a look at number of people wearing lids while riding it)

So R25 will sell in good numbers if they just manage it to market it well distinguishing it from R15 and creating a Ninja like image .

Yamaha's product strategy with this was to make a 'superbike you can ride everyday', so they were aiming to have the best of both worlds (supersports and sports tourer).

I believe they have achieved what they had set out to do (with regard to styling)
