..in fact guys have started to prefer the thump of the Royal Enfields over the full faired R15, CBR150R/250R, ZMR. I see more new RE models on the streets of Bangalore than full faired ones. The management of Yamaha India will have to have a really strong reason to get the R25.

Unless the R25 is manufactured in India, I see its chances of making it to India in the near future very very slim.
+ 1 to this.

Even I see RE more now a days than Faired ones. And NS200 almost all guli nukad.

Though Yamaha has it's know style but really they have to try hard for people buying R25 over RC390 or other good bikes coming out from Bajaj stable this next year.

That's what I hope happens in the case of the R25. Posers would not buy it, genuine riders would. That was not the case with the R15. Any collage boy who wanted to show off would buy it (no offence).

lol... Still we are waiting for R25. It needs to be priced at right bracket coz if it's really a single pot then pricing over 2.25L without ABS would really piss pf every buyer. INMO.

Agree. Even as a Yamaha R15 V1 owner, it would take some hard convincing for me to consider R25 over RC390.
Like payeng rightly mentioned, simply looks will not cut it this time.
The market has matured a lot compared to 2008/2009.
D390 has set the stage for 44ps, LC, ABS et all at 2.1L OTR. RC390 should be within 2.5 or 2.6L max.
And we are Indians at the end of the day!

Last time, the 'overall package' concept worked for Yamaha with its main competitor as the P220 which was not faired and didn't handle in the league of the R. Also quality, refinement issues.
This time around, we have an equally good looking bike loaded with technology and making more power with cheaper overall cost of ownership.
That leaves only an excuse of 'better quality' to lure prospective buyers.

Which is why, pricing is key. And a CKD will simply not cut it as 250cc or 320cc, we have the well established N300 waiting to gobble up the CKD share.

Just bring whatever you have Yamaha. It's high time.

P.S. I may not end up buying any of the 2 as I'm looking for a heavy faired tourer. Not sure if CBR300 will fit the bill.

If only the GT250 was made by someone else, and had 6 gears with LC.

Not sure how much you stick to your words here, but i have very strong sense and as your current owner of R15 i feel that you might end up buying R25 .
ofcourse if pricing is at right place, as per reports R25 is of similar riding stance as Ninja Rather than R15 sports. and who can ignore the reliability of yamaha.
Trust me i last month sold my GT250R after owning it for 2 years and now back to my old R15 , you can't i repeat you can't get Yamaha reliability in any other bike

Trust your words.. but then just look at the conundrum called Royal Enfield which is clocking up record sales with their comparatively "unreliable" Classics/Bullets/Thunderbirds (the C-GT is fairly new) in the same Rs. 1-2 Lakhs segment (as the R15, CBR150/250R, 200/390 Duke).

The Yamaha management will be aware of this and I don't think it'll be an easy decision to get the R25 to India, especially in the CKD, SKD form.

Clearly Indians are looking for something more than a Full Fairing, High Revving Engine, 2 Cylinders, ABS or even reliability in the Rs. 1-2 Lakh segment.

Yamaha will setup a proper R&D center in India. Most probably in south India.[my guess in Chennai] They will then start an Indian design studio like Honda has. And that means big bikes designed and made in India!!!

Are you sure about the 'big bikes' part? Sadly, I think it will mean more india-centric scooters and commuters

anyone with appropriate money and enthusiasm for it (either for poser-ism or genuine interest) will buy it...there are plenty of poser-ish minded people with lots of money in their banks, in addition to the standard college boys.

On a side note, Yamaha will not target prospective RE buyers and vice versa.

If at all launched, its a very long shot that its priced below 2 lacs. I am sure folks at Yamaha are aware about sales figures RE and others and they are doing nothing about it. It's fact that their delay in entering entry the quarter litre space has already cost them market share and further delay would be mean not so great sales figures.

As nitrosatya mentioned, India may not R25 and then Yamaha, and fans, will be at a huge loss as Aditya mentioned most R15 owners will migrate to R25. If R25 doesn't arrive, folks who can't wait longer will opt for RC/N300.

Just came across this article...
Yamaha R25 custom job better than original?

The mods look awesome. I feel suddenly the bike has a bike bike feel. It can easily pass off as a 600cc.

Any news on launch??
C'mon Yamaha spill the beans.
