    Oh never knew!

The old Bullets of 1960s/70s had OE stock crash-guards.
Ill consider that as a statement for the sake of argument. We are talking abt the next generation of RE.

Even my Thunderbird 500's analog speedometer is erratic. So is the digital clock, which is very slow.

Mine is just 13 k km old and runs on stock tyres. The speedometer error has a cascading effect on trip meters and average speed. On the whole, the instrument cluster is lousy, both inside and outside. My Thunderbird 500 was delivered with the instrument cluster having a cracked glass, which was replaced at 5,722 km on warranty after escalation. Even the newer one was no different from the old, when it comes to dependability of the readings.

Royal Enfield will have to tighten their quality control, if they want Himalayan to be a hit.
That sounds pathetic. That's why I never trust a RE but while it comes to the your ride it's the vice versa, Its all about the trust between you and your ride.

First time I'm Falling for a RE. Yet I ll decide only after a test ride. This is also a carburetor model so hope things don't go the wrong way.
    Ride Safe!

      RE numbers came in today.
Margins are at 28.5% and profit grew 100% !!! These are the alltime best numbers for RE. Siddharta lal says hes very happy with more bookings per month than he can manufacture!

Till people keep buying overpriced REs for the image and sound, RE will not bother about improving quality or reliability.
They will keep selling these old technology bikes with cheap components until people realise that they are being taken for a ride.
I wish some other companies launch a half decent cruiser near 1.5L, now that the market has grown for them, then RE will have to raise its game.

Firstly its not always about specs. How many motorcycles do we see now with Metal.None as most of them is wth Fibre.RE has its own set of customers.

UM Motorcycles has launched couple of cruisers. Its aroud 1.49 and quiet powerful than RE.Now this can be a gamechanger

That own set of customers are very meagre. These days the nos are because of stupid teenagers who don't know why they buy it for, they just wanna boast they own a RE and they call themselves bikers thereafter. Don't get me wrong, no offense here. Why people bought it earlier? It was the most customizable in any way. Nowadays the engine issues are pathetic and it's not worth to own one. If you can take care of it like a baby and shell out more money for maintenance almost like a sbk, can repair it on your own during breakdown while on your trip then you can own one.

I don't think UM Motorcycles will make any difference. It's gonna be in India like hyosung. Any idea whom they are tying up with for dealers/service?

Yes, I'm aware. That's why they fall under premium segment and they are twin cylinders.

Can you compare the regular maintainence cost of RE with these two bikes ?? Or with any other bikes which you feel are sbk...??

Most of those who do long distance touring and trips to northern and eastern india choose RE bikes. I believe the Himalayan was built for that purpose and ergonomics may be better than the classic and the thunderbird. That's why the simple looks and abuse friendly design. If there is an improvement in reliability it would sell in decent numbers.

I think you got my point wrong. It's a carb. And all the carbs don't need a baby sitter except for the RE's(even a brand new RE). I didn't say it is costing as much as sbk for a service, I just compared relatively. Its the small things that are irritating and the service offered by the SVC is well worthy of it selves. I don't own a RE but I got many friends who are loyal RE owners and I hear their voice which I'm replicating it to you.
