I feel people here are underestimating new RE. In fact hardcore Bulletiers are also not there to discuss or contribute something. Overall RE has launched a good product with very good features like long travel suspensions on both ends, informative speedometer, lots of luggage space, high ground clearance, good pillion seat, wind shield, dual purpose tires and an all new engine.
There was nothing given out in the name of launch actually. The specs and almost every details where already out. The pricing was the only thing we were waiting for to decide whether to go for it or not. It is tentatively told that it is below the GT so it might be some where between 1.8-2L. Looks good. But still it is a product of RE and they have a habit of making us wait for a loooooooong period. Now they make us wait even for the price and booking/delivery date. That says it all.
Im excited about this machine but not the stupid launch without any sense.Ride Safe!

Looks good and if they have managed to keep the vibes down and if it can cruise at 100kmph then it is a good package and with that kind of tyres and GC should be able to go anywhere. But it should have EFI and proper console.

Proper console? What do you mean by that?Originally posted by sparky View PostLooks good and if they have managed to keep the vibes down and if it can cruise at 100kmph then it is a good package and with that kind of tyres and GC should be able to go anywhere. I believe EFI is ignored just to maintain the simplicity and easily repairable in case things happen during your adventure. Apart from a negligible mileage and power gain what can you expect from EFI in such a machine?Ride Safe!

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan Unveiled!
From the review below he mentions that its still a prototype and the production variant will be a little different, cant expect much wonder in a month that is if launched in march.
little modification we can do such as lights but a headlamp unit of thunder bird would have been much welcome.

Somehow, Himalayan does not attract me. I feel it should have OE stock crash-guard - which is a must, IMO, central stand, kick-starter - whenever my Thunderbird's battery becomes weak due to frequent hibernation, it is my only saviour - and 12V/15A power outlet. Coming to the instrument cluster, if the vendor is the same as that of Thunderbird, then god save Himalayan.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan Unveiled!
There are people like me living without central stand and kick start in their bike, happy and still haven't faced any trouble any day. May be RE figured out how to do that in/with the Himalayan. So don't worry.Originally posted by J.Ravi View PostSomehow, Himalayan does not attract me. I guess you are little obsessed over your thunderbird. No offense just kidding.
The console is way better than that of the thunderbird which is cheap plastic.

Cost-cutting is evident in Himalayan.Originally posted by sman999 View PostMay be RE figured out how to do that in/with the Himalayan.
I am more concerned about what is inside the gauges rather than the external plastic cover. Thunderbirds' analog/digital gauges are never accurate. If Royal Enfield does not select quality vendors, Himalayan will go in Thunderbird's way.The console is way better than that of the thunderbird which is cheap plastic.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cost cutting part I agree. But the central stand doesn't come in any vehicle as a standard fitment neither the crash guards. The dealers make money out of it being the only reason. Now the big bikes even charge for saree guard which is mandatory by law.Originally posted by J.Ravi View PostCost-cutting is evident in Himalayan.

Every digital console is faulty, not just the thunderbird's, especially the fuel Guage and the avg fuel consumption shit. Anything in specific you are taking about? Speedo depends on the tyres as well. If you changed the tyres from stock size it will result in error.Ride Safe!

Royal Enfield Standard Bullet/Electra/Classic/Thunderbird 350/500 models come with OE stock central stand.Originally posted by sman999 View PostBut the central stand doesn't come in any vehicle as a standard fitment
The old Bullets of 1960s/70s had OE stock crash-guards.neither the crash guards
Even my Thunderbird 500's analog speedometer is erratic. So is the digital clock, which is very slow.Anything in specific you are taking about?
Mine is just 13 k km old and runs on stock tyres. The speedometer error has a cascading effect on trip meters and average speed. On the whole, the instrument cluster is lousy, both inside and outside. My Thunderbird 500 was delivered with the instrument cluster having a cracked glass, which was replaced at 5,722 km on warranty after escalation. Even the newer one was no different from the old, when it comes to dependability of the readings.Speedo depends on the tyres as well. If you changed the tyres from stock size it will result in error.
Royal Enfield will have to tighten their quality control, if they want Himalayan to be a hit.Last edited by J.Ravi; 02-05-2016, 10:58 AM.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan Unveiled!
Even on my brother's TB500 the fuel gauge stopped working at around 10,000. Got it changed under warranty around 18,000. Still it is faulty. It shows 1 bar and start blinking when the fuel is half tank. Can't trust the digital guage.
