  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan Unveiled!

The bike has not even been test ridden by anyone yet.and the most of the thread has been negative.why?because of the RE quality issues.my brother has a UCE 500 and previously has ridden CI350 and lightning 535 extensively including the mecca of motorcycle on both plus thousand of numerous kms on every type of surface.on his 3 trips to ladakh.he was never stranded on the way but his co-rider were. ride a bike the way it is meant to be ridden and you won't have issues.Design is subjective.when impulse was launched everyone appreciated it except the power it delivered.the weight to me it seems like ONE OF THE lightest ADVENTURE TOURER.with a speculative pricing of around 2 lakhs on paper it is worth every penny to me.the himalyan is TOTALLY different from the present fleet of Royal Enfield.I really like BAJAJ .i ride discover 100dts-si and love to the core but their version of adventure tourer is in front of everyone.the reason given by them was that they did not wanted to created a new platform by making too many changes.which according to me was giving it better off road capabilities thus increasing it cost by quite a margin. At around 2 lakhs it is around 1/3rd the price of the next available adventure tourer.from my side it deserves a loud applause for what it is giving at the given price.

So many discussions on the Himalayan, just loving it all around. Considering the reliability factor of RE machines around us at present ( TB series elctra and classic), i would definitely wait for a few months to get the feedback before making a booking. Since my main purpose of a motorcycle is touring only, this machine would be a good upgrade from KTMs CBR 250r and the karizma.

Lets see who come up with the first ride report. Lets watch out how much reliable would be this machine on all aspects. Can this surpass my trustworthy ZMA? only time will say.

Oh dear, why does the foot peg have saw tooth edges? It will only make our pants get snagged in the sharp edges and can make one fall if not careful. This is stupid design.

Thats to get rid of wet and soft dirt you accumulate on your shoe base during offroading on soft ground. And no it's not stupid design.
Stupid design would be not to provide blunt edged foot pegs/foot controls which can make contact with shoe despite it getting laden with tons of sticky wet mud. It would be very stupid to fall off into a 800ft gorge or valley because you foot slipped off the peg while taking Himalayan into the Himalayas.
Something tells me you have no experience with offroading on two wheels, is it?
Of course you don't ride offroad bikes in loose pants and sarees , now tomorrow you would want a saree splash guard in front wheel also , quoting how poor the design is that all the splashes are spoiling your saree while you are trying to ride your offroading

I agree with you. I would think RE should offer rubber footpegs on their production models with an option to remove the rubber overlays and expose metal saw-toothed surfaces when needed..

9 out of 10 bikes are going to be used as regular commuters and metal footpegs for street use is certainly overkill. RE is projecting this bike as an all-rounder that can be an everyday bike in addition to hitting the trails so rubber footpegs should be standard.

Here's a promo video of C.S. Santosh riding the bike, where the footpegs snap off the Himalayan at 1:51, Sloppy is the word that comes to mind and I hope RE will leave that legacy behind with the Himalayan.

every part of the himalayan is designed to serve a function rather than style. choosing form over function is a grand design move. i absolutely love it that RE has decided to take it that way, giving in over the style factor.

if its carb, its so that it can be serviced easily in case of an unfortunate incident.

that toothed footpeg increases grip over shoe soles over the accumulated mud.

stock luggage rack, with multiple pinning points, that sexy instrument cluster, and that great looking beefy exhaust.

yes, its going to have a very niche customer base, perhaps more than the CGT.

If in the future it comes with dual channel ABS and good tires [as in like CGT] then i will be signing up. a double cylinder would be an icing on the cake

btw, can anyone confirm if the brake lines are rubber ones or the metal ones??

Critics comes before even when the material is out. This shows here 16 pages - nobody has ridden the bike. Nobody has extensively toured on it and all what is being said is negative comments and all. You all know this is the one of the reason why our Indian Motorcycle Market is so afraid of introducing new ranges and breed of motorcycles. Because even we as Biker have a negative impact of few Brands and their few Models, which we are never gonna overcome even if its the best.

We all know nothing is 100% perfect, but haven't we lived so far. I love the Himalayan, and hell yes I want it to succeed. Why - because atleast RE introduced this breed which will be good for tourers . A person like me who has gone to Lahaul & Spiti on R15 twice, would be the happiest to have a bike like Himalayan, to continue my adventurous touring in Hills. Ofcourse I will have to spend around 2 to 3k kms on it before I venture out for adventure. But yes this Bike looks very nice and practical.

Just realized the saw toothed edge you saw belongs to the brake pedal and the bike has rubber footpegs, so much for our little discussion on the matter.

For some reason, I am falling in love with the looks of this bike, except the headlight.. Apart from that, the bike is a beauty to my eyes Still wondering why give that odd looking headlight..

also, I just noticed that the headlights don't move along with the handlebars, they are fixed.. that makes it look awkward too

Totally agree with you. I think headlight which moves along with handlebar feels more comfortable in nights. Positioning of headlight is very high in comparison to other parts of motorcycle and that is why it looks little awkward. I think they should take some inspiration from Triumph Tiger's twin headlamp design for its facelift.
