What I understand is that the kits are illegal if branded as "Yamaha", as Yamaha is a manufacturer and has t comply their products to decibel, pollution levels accross the country or the world..

I do not think that modifying your bike is illegal in India
You can do and ride anyway...unless you go supersonic and create a huge sonic boom that will create lots of people great despair

Now daytona can supply these parts..it is not Yamaha..it is not illegal..

Yamaha, to make its stand clear will declare with appropriate warnings that these kits are for closed circuit only...

Experts please do put in your remarks..

Kits are not illegal..and thats why yamaha is supplying them. Daytona manufacutures them and Yamaha is marketing the product for their bikes. The complete kit is illegal as it finally causes pollution and sound level concerns. However if someone wishes to install rear set footpegs and larger discs etc..it doesnt become illegal.
But finally modifying your bike does void the warranty in one way or the other thats why Yamaha has kept it for closed circuits only as the groups involved into professional racing would be least bothered about warranty and moreover yamaha from its side is providing techincal assistance in this for to those same groups.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

      • ^^^AFAIK....any motorcycle part seller(that includes DAYTONA) has to
conform to the sound and pollution norms even for aftermarket products
i.e. if they are being used on the streets....it doesnt matter if its Yamaha
or Daytona...once fitted onto a street bike it has to conform to norms....
of course we in our country dont bother about the finer Print....

        • As per my knowledge, any mods on the bike which increases its power has to be updated on the RC. You need to get the RTO's permission for the same.

Well, how many of them follow that?

The way we follow this rule...i think updating the RC is illegal - Just kidding
Btw..the RC only hold information of the Engine size(technically)...which will remain same in any mod. which parameter needs to be changed in the RC for any changes performed ?

            • Had a talk with a Yamaha dealer in Mumbai... he was in Delhi for the new FZ and racing kit launch.

              He says that
              - the Kit would be available for sale to the general public from September
              - the Kit would come in four packages, with the base package (exhaust+ecu) at Rs.26,000
              - Bhp to go upto 24.

If they prove that 24bhp on a dyno with that engine and so called mods, I'll give away my R15 for free. Open bet!

                          • @ Joel- okay, but who gets it for free? How about a new offer, They prove its 22bhp instead of 24, and you exchange your bike with mine.....
                            You get the point?? :D

Looks like Joel's bike is more wanted here at Xbhp than the Kit yamaha is providing

u missed out on the undies too
I've read this article about one mad tuner who got set to set a top-speed record on some foreign motorcycle long ago at the Bonneville salts. He only wore a helmet and was all naked, coz he wanted to save weight and also to achieve better aerodynamics. This Duraluminium sproket is one such story

Its impossible for that engine with 149cc to produce 24bhp with the best camshaft, best ECU in the world even.
I'll just tell some more facts of the R15 engine.
This engine which is a 135cc step-thru debuted in malaysia/Indo etc 5yrs ago has a conservative layout. valve lift is about 5.52mm and comes with conservative valve springs which float beyond 11000rpm.
A stock R15 has a valve lift of approximately 6.9mm with the same springs as the T135, which means the R15 camshaft on the T135 is already like a performance cam. Now daytona has a cam which say gives approx 0.5mm more valve lift and about 10 deg more timing at ATDC and BTDC over stock (which is only possible with the standard head config) still cant give gains over 10% even.
The R15 and T135 shares the same valve size and head design and the R15 is just a big-bore version of the T135, which means the R15 is already a modified T135 engine in stock. You cant push it to great limits with an ECU and cam and claim 24bhp and its impossible.
