Anyway, just got the R1 back from the 15000 km service. Here's the cost breakup for the service:

      1) Yamalube 20w40 4 litres: 775.33
      2) Air filter: 1480.2
      3) Oil filter: 616.74
      4) Crankcase cover gasket: 440.53
      5) Head (nut): 352.42
      6) Rivet (2 nos): 176.11

      Sub-total: 3841.41

      Labour:

      1) General Service: 3500
      2) Clutch Overhaul: 750
      3) Coolant topup: 400.

      Sub-total: 4650.

      Total: Spares+Labour = Rs. 9489.00

Minor complaints like a little rattling noise from the clutch, and some nuts and bolts missing from when I misplaced them at the track. Compression test was done, and 3 out of 4 cylinders were pumping out 175 psi, as against one which was low at 130. Need to figure out what to do with that one cylinder.

The plugs were also checked in great condition and were in perfect condition, showing a tan colour, which means that the engine is running just perfect. It feels that way as well because the R1 is flying now.

Pics and a sound clip of the new exhausts coming up.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

              • I have been seeing this 2nd Photo from quite long when you search R1 on google. When I used to search for 09 R1 then also it used to come up as a possible shape of 09 R1..

Although both of these designs look awesome to me...

                • A long due update!

The R1 completes almost 19000 kms. Spent almost 4 hours with the R1 running compression checks. The engine seems to be developing decent compression, and now to sort out the weird idling and mapping issues. I will be checking the valve clearance, camshaft timing chain slack etc in the days to come. Come Thursday, I will have a new fuel management system, which will sort out my engine mapping on the fly when am riding!

                  Other routine checks:

                  1) Front brake pads, (still running on the first set that came with the bike) almost worn out. Would need a change in around 500 kms of street riding.

2)Rear brake fluid looks bad because I hardly use them. Need to flush and bleed soon.

3)The battery is beginning to show its age, and I would be needing a new battery soon.

Am doing all the work myself, and will post pics and videos soon.

RSV-4 is total drool man. Cannot fathom anything about that bike.

                  • Are you installing the Power Commander Autotune or the Bazzaz AutoTune?
I am sure you would already know, but just in case you don't, r1-forum.com has a lot of info on configuring either of the 2 units. Good luck with the install, would love to read about it.
19,000 KM on the ODO is awesome. Way to go.

Installing the Bazzaz man. I already have the PC3, which I think is junk. It's annoying to zero in on a proper map which works all the time.

If you throw in an Autotune you wouldn't have to worry about getting the right map !

                            Edit : Does PC3 support autotune though ? I know PC5 does.

                            • I hear a lot of debate about which is better, the Power Commander + Auto Tune setup or the Bazzaz ZFi + Autotune ZFAM. It always turns out that you can tune a bike way more with the Bazzaz setup but not every tuner knows how to set it up. The learning curve to get either of the AutoTune products to work right is a bit steep. But the Bazzaz help desk folks are very pro-active in helping people solve their setup and tuning issues. Lot of people on the forums here seem to be moving to Bazzaz. But the average person still sticks to the Power Commander setup with or without the AutoTune because of available maps for different setups which work alright. Most folks get a PCV and get a custom tune. Some serious folks get the AutoTune setup, which saves them the hassle of getting another tune in case they change their exhaust setup or move to a different place.
Weather and geographic conditions apart from your exhaust setup have a lot to do with getting the perfect tune.

PC3 doesn't support autotune man. I'm getting the Bazzaz unit with the Autotune. It's a way better unit than Dynojet's finest.

Yeah I don't want to get into that debate myself, to each his own But I find the PC interfacing and custom options too clunky and not very user friendly. And I tried to get the Dynojet guys to guide me through the tuning process on the PC, but they just could not devote time and expertise to it. Bazzaz on the other hand, would be so happy and clear with their instructions. Amazing people. In the end, their people made me decide to go the Bazzaz way.

The Autotune setup is basically an o2 sensor located in the exhaust which tells the fuel management system on how rich or lean the engine is running based on the exhaust gases coming out. And the control module modulates the fuelling accordingly. You can set the optimum AFR on the module, for each RPM range and the module will either richen or lean out the mixture to match the AFR ratio that you have set.

And all this on the fly, when you are riding it

This negates the need for intense tuning sessions on the dyno, and it is a blessing for people like me who have no access to dynos.
