According to me, Rs. 50K lesser than the on road price of the Ninja 250R would be a very interesting price point.

Hmm, at that price point the N250 would probably still be a stones throw away... 2.0L to 2.35 exshowroom is more like it IMO. A tad above the CBR, but needs to be substantially below the N250....

        • but why does Hyosung GT250 has to be priced a tad above CBR, why ?

is it because of one cylinder extra.

in my opinion, it should be priced at par with CBR ABS, that will be its true value.

it seems "alantris" is all praise of hyosung. hyosung

          • CBR ABS is over priced, a vTwin is a different breed, besides the bike looks visibly much bigger (and may I say better) than the VFRish honda...

For an average joe, the big bik USP would make it sell, but not if its priced too close to the grand daddy of all quarter litres...

Anything southwards of 2.35 and its pretty smart.

            • The mentality in this thread seems to be that Kwasaki being a better brand/bike can be allowed to be priced higher while Hyosung which is a brand/bike of lower value should be prices lower.

What if.. Hyosung thinks the current 250 market has a all-rounder, sports-tourer but not a sports bike?!
What if.. Hyosung thinks or is actually justified in pricing its 250 the same as the ninja or higher? while currently everyone here is talking lower and lower!

Hyosung mind you has already priced its 650 higher than the ninja, it dint go for a price cut even after the ninja announcement.
What if they have justified the cost since they have a sale-able product in hand, a bike committed to sporty riding while the rest of the market is cruisers or sports tourers in the 650 segment.

Note that handling is relative. A guy who rides a cruiser will find a sports bike handling a bit "loose" while a sports bike guy will find a cruiser to be an elephant, not nimble enough ! Ofcourse quality can vary but then a nano just cause its 2lacs doesnt fall apart compared to a honda civic. In the end, the GT250 might be priced the same as the ninja.

The above is just a general observation, i havent ridden any of these bikes !

                • 2.4L ON ROAD price is a delicacy if this thing is priced that way, anything above that is, not gonna make any difference if Hyosung is intending to place it at or above the Ninja.

All this would mean is one thing, which is gonna boost the CBR250Rs and
                  the sub 250cc categories.

But then, still the wait continues..

                  Cheers!

2.4 OTR is NOT going to be the price of this bike as far as I have heard ...(speculation, I say)

People here seem to be talking about two things -

                    1. How good is the bike/ how good an alternate would it provide against the current competition?
                    2. How good would it sell?

To hell with the second point, first point is what we all should be worried/concerned/interested about/in....

However, from my experiences with the Hyosungs 650 twins/ST7s and the whispers of 'unofficial' pricing, I expected/expect them to launch this bike at a little lower than the possibilities...

According to my personal opinion, a price as closer to the Honda would do the trick...both as buyers and for the company's sales
It should not go nearer the Ninja..!

Not because Ninja is/might be a better product, but because even that is overpriced for the kind of bikes we have currently...!

Actually the mentality is nothing to do with Kawasaki. Everyone would say that the N250 is reasonably over priced..... The point we are making is simply that stick around the pricing of the honda and not the kawasaki.... the later (because its overpriced) and is a much more flashy head turning brand where a difference of 25-50k for it, might just make people opt for Kawasaki instead...

                      • Every product needs a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) to stand apart from the competiting products and attract potential customers.

USP for CBR250R: Honda brand, "Perception" of quality, Lowest sticker price (among current 250s), good straight line performance

USP for Ninja250R: Kawasaki/Ninja badge, without any doubt the best 250 cc bike in the world to ride

USP for the GT250R: Big bike/Super bike look alike, Super bike like ergonomics, Non - Super bike price (??)*

*: Now how much would be that price would determine how attractive the GT250R would be as a proposition.

Riding the GT250 in a highway peak traffic in California summer did almost fry my balls. Thats the day I returned my friend's GT250. Your statement holds true for Comet 250 not for the new GT250 R.

To the second point, the option of 6th gear is convenience and relaxed riding in the highway. It makes a big difference in long term ownership. So I think its cheap on Hyosung to make this a 5 gear bike.

For me GT250 was perfect for all the points you had listed above (big bike feel etc) but these points make a practical difference in day-to-day and long term riding. Unlike a 650, I look at the 250 as my daily ride and these are critical.

I am not too worried about the weight or the GT taking ages to reach top speed...
+1 , i comepletely agree with your points, also even a 1200cc can produce less ehat when it is tuned for a cruiser or in ducati monsteras it is naked bike with peak power as well as torque developed at considerable less rpm as less revs is equal to considerable less heat.

one good example is 200cc duke naked engine vs cbr 250cc faired engine
duke with 50cc less and aid of air produces more heat as engine revvs lot higher then cbt and peak power is at considerable high rpm

also - cbr with 1 cylinder less actually develop more power then gt 250r vis a vis at same rpm thus giving you more rideability at lower rpm and less gear changes, more torque.

and even being single itss way smoother then gt 250r

hhaa, are you fogetting gt 250r with all the same bells and wistles cost less then cbr in uk and USA alike! and still does not get sale in comparision

in my opinion, it should be priced at par with CBR ABS, that will be its true value.

i agree with you just not enitrely , it should be priced at same price of cbr non abs not with abs as it is priced everyewhere else, why we indians should be taken for ride and pay higher then bikers in USA, UK, rest of europe for the same bike. i have lived for some time in Uk and nobody gives hyosung even 2011 models any thought with respect to cbr so why should we charged a premium afterall its NO- DUCATI even if it try to copy its looks .

we are forgetting the obvious facts that cbr and ninja are priced alike while gt 250r is cheaper and many reviews and biking forums give edge to cbr over ninja and to ninja over cbr, i.e competition is only between these two. even same ninja with its twins is priced same as cbr and still cbr outsells in it many market or gives it equal competition. think when hyundai was launchedin india if it had price equal to honda how many would have bought it. it buids its makrket by enticing indians with cheaper price, cheaper cost to own due t o cheapr service and spairs, good average comapred to americans, italians etc. even in premium bike segment of india, service, quality, price, BRAND VALUE has same or in some case more value then cheapersegments.

Think why No ones buys superb Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Sonata why they sell cheaper then BMW, HOnda , because of brand value which is because of Quality, ENGINEERING,design, which means well mated parts in harmony etc, i.e you need liquid cooling for sure in V twin 250cc fully faired bike which revs higher then cbr, i stand by it from engineering perspective/ design perspective, so much so it can lead to early failure of engine, higher consumption of lubes , fried legs etc

you do need 6 gears if you want to cruise comfortably i.e one extar gear along would have solved the issue of engines vibes in great measures cause you can reach at same speed at lower revs thus less vibes.

please just do not get enamoured with big bike looks, size, will you go for a ferrari look alike with engine power, quality of tata indica, well not to be a exact comparsion but to give you an idea that when you looks you need the go as well to go along.

my only reason behind these posts is so as people who are interested in the bike makes a informed mature decision. i hope i can be of some help because the bike reviews/ ownership reviews will take time to pour in and whoever buys the bike by that time hopefully does not get just enamoured by the looks while not looking into engineering / design which are true measures of bikes performance, its reliability. You can not foget the facts that if Kawasaki and Honda have so called perceived brand value its because of a reason.

the japanese also started like hyosung in 60's ie. no brand value, copies of british, european looks and design but from day one, one thing became clear they were cheaper, worse looker, less powerful but more reliable version of british, europeans and within a decade they started making thier own designs, engines, chasis and started beating british, europeans in their own game of design, engine superiority while here we have Hyosung GT 250r whose engine is even after a decade is copy of Suzuki v twin, looks of ducati etc, nothing original in terms of engg, design, cheaper parts, fit finish almost no service network, no brand value compared to Ninja, CBR and still people are talking about its cost being more then CBR while everywhere its cheaper then CBR WTF. Its a joke right!

Let me repeat.. i own a 2006 Comet... it was owned by 2 people previosuly..the bike is still a gem.. i do servicing every 5k KM and the bike still give CBR a threat.. now.. you talk about poor design and quality.. can you explain in what terms... the 250 is one of the most stable bikes on teh road.. you do a 140 and you wont feel the bike move a bit... quality.. have u owned one to talk abt quality... The bikei owned has been to Leh.. now do u think a bike which has not build or design or quality can do that.. well think again..
so please do not judge them by some reviews you read....

just to let you know.. i owned a YAMAHA R15 prior to this.. now am sure Yamaha is better than Hyosung according to you right.. so can you explain why the R15 had issues when it came to the quality of parts.. do you know the R15 rims were so bad that you just go into a pot hole an dteh rim gets bend.. parts getting rusted... paint chipping off.. so now does this conclude that Yamaha is CRAP...

Please don write points here which really makes no sense.. you are just sticking to one point... Hyosung is a 100cc bike with a super bike built..

You told that your post was for people to make the right decision.. from what i think your post is to discourage people from buying this bike inspite of many owners who owns the bigger version.. if you want to give a review/.. give it with the right sense of ownership....

                            PEACE

I give a rat's @$$ what happens in the US of A. This is India, we are Indians. The spending power/market dynamics/people's attitude is as different as the proverbial chalk as cheese.

To elucidate the difference (with no relation whatsoever to the discussion): People commute in Sedans/SUVs in the US of A and only a handful few also own/ride motorcycycles just for Pleasure/Lesuire. There are lakhs in the US of A who own a Sedan/SUV but have never ridden/will ride a bike in their life.
