  • ^^ when you say you are at able to cross 80, is that the engine doesnt rev move than 7k? What happens when you rev the bike in lower gears. Are you getting a flat spot? if the engine revs good in standstill or in lower gears, then we can move to other mechanical parts for inspection. else the issue in on cdi/carb/sparks

IF the engine revs ok in lower gears then try this. Get on to an open strech, rev the engine more that 8k in 3rd then shift to 4th still keeping it abv 8k then move to 5th gear. Now it should be all good. If so, then the CDI is not able to switch to power band (this switch happens at 6.5 to 7k rpm) in 5th gear. This is a flat spot, but more noticable when you ve a worn out chain/sprocket.

and if u feel if its because of rust... disconnet thye tank.. and pour some fuel through the carb inlet.. this eleminate fuel/rust related issue...

if u feel its cdi... get a frnds comet and swap the cdi and rev the bike in nuetral...

No Prabhu.. the bike is the same at all gears.. cant rev more than 7k rpm... i had the carb removed and cleaned so that is not the issue but cant take that out of the equation... remaining is teh ignition cable as Mach mentioned, check the jet valves again and teh engine overall...

            • 2 months of the Comy not being itself... i was just hoping and praying there could be someone who could get it fixed... took the Comy to a mech at Banashankari by the name of Harsha who had tuned my bike long back when i initially got it from Santa.. felt i should get his advise since he knows the bike form the 1st owner... he rode the bike .. came back and then told me he would need 2 days to get the bike fixed sinc eteh carb is not tuned.. it was a relief... on Sat i get a call that the bike is ready.. advised that the engine was not in good conition and the carb was totally messed up.. was not happy to know this since the bike was revamped by one of the best known mechanics in town and he had done a good job .. it was disappointing to know that he didnt do the last servicing good enough that the bike ended by being in this state.. he def is someone who knows his job but too busy to give importance to minute details perhaps...

well sad story ends and the happy one begins.. took a test ride and i was smiling and screaming to see the speedo touch a 100 in no time in 3rd gear.. the engine was much smoother and the exhaust note refined a little more.. the one thing he told me was to be careful since getting spares will be a pain so keep the bike maintained going forward... and on a personal note told me to hit the limit to check how the bike is doing and get back to him if there is any issues...

              List of things done..

Changed oil from Shell Advance AX7 (Semi Syn) to Shell Advance Ultra (Fully Syn) - Sinc ethe engine was not performing at its best, changed to fully synthetic for some time...
              Oil Filter - Fiero (Santa's choice :-))
              Caliper Rubber kit
Complete Tuning of Carb and Engine...

rode 150km after that and the feeling i just cant imagine.. it was like the first day when i took the bike from Santa.. the bike touches a 100 effortlessly with a pillion and after a long time my wife told me she was scared to sit :P...

In all, i an a happy person now.. 2 months of torture comes to an end.. thanks to all who suggested with ideas and tips...

                • Bumping this up to check if you guys are aware as to where one can get a 12V 14AH battery. I have an Aquila and the Amaron 12V 9A battery has given up recently.

14AH batteries are not being made anymore. Prev. exide was putting out backer batteries which did 12V 14AH, but not now

                      • i have a suggestion, which may or may not be possible, depending on where you live.

back in my hometown, in U.P. there are a lot of local battery manufacturers, who manufacture batteries for trucks and inverters. if you talk to them, i think they should be able to custom manufacture a battery for yourr needs, and cheap too. though you have to top up water may be once a month.

Guys , posting here on XBHp after ages .. i hope this a right page to ask a query for Comet 250 .

I was planning to get Comet and was concerned about the availability of spares like Clutch plates , brakes , throttle cables etc etc .

Are these available with dealers if not what's the best way to source them ?

                          Thanks

Ok now let's come to Comet

Last week was just going through a classified website and saw this comet , called him up immediately and spoke about it .

Went in the evening to meet the guy who was very humble and took a test ride of the bike .

Man ....... after the test ride i fell in love with it as the bike was in great shape and had only done 7700 odd kms ..

Bit negotiations were done and handed over him advance and yesterday made full and final payment and got the bike home .

Posting few pics of the bike , also changed engine oil to Motul 7100 on Day 1 itself .
