kusmaker , if my post is considered in this thread; Fantastic and loved the way you have kept over decades!! The bike looks absolutely stock and I had longed for this edition (red and white stripes) during my college days back in 1995. This edition came with 12v electricals i.e ignition (coil and magnet) and Yamaha kept par with export models. This edition was exported to South American countries. The vacuum that created after Yamaha stopped producing was unbelievable.

May you plz tell us the procedure for checking the electrical system of rx whether running on 12v or 6v.

I had tried once with multimeter and end up in the confusion.
I had checked battery terminals when bike engine off it reads 11.7 v . checked headlamp voltage when bike was in idling state didnt show voltage.

My question to you is what is the correct procedure to decide the voltage on which bike is running.??

Mine is 1995 manufactured and 1996 delivered model of rx 100.

Pls throw some light on my issue.
Regards

Check the RR unit and that determines what it is. That would say it all. Also avhad sitaram, can you move your questions to rx frequently asked thread? Let's respect this thread starter. Thanks.

Its an 86 model which needs some cosmetic as well as functional ( engine ... electrical) work . Currently my job leaves with no time to attend to it.. I leave at 6.15 in the morning and get back by 8.30 at night.
Will post when I get around to restore it... not to originality but to functionality.

It could have been modded like most RXs to run 12v unit with mod to 6v coil plate.

True Bro. these bikes were the stuff of legends and every kid wanted one of their own growing up. I also thought of buying one for my very own when I grew up but by then Yamaha had stopped production. I was ecstatic when I learnt they brought it back. but it was a 135 cat-con. huh.............. golden days of biking.

:what:
I said this as most of the older 6volts are converted to 12v by just changing the rr,flasher, battery and bulbs to 12v, as you are reading 11.7v on multimeter as it's generating less power that complete 12v, a 12 v magnet will produe more volts.

:thumbup:Buddy you are correct...most of rx were converted to 12v.
But if i am correct rr unit comprises of one transformer and followed by full wave rectifier in order to give 12v dc.
Thats too technically correct way to conversion.

Btw in my case battery is almost five to six years old that might be not hold the charge properly and reading taken when bike is in rest .

I will check and update you in my next leave.

I hope their might be 12v electricals to surprise me
