Wow great thread and loved reading it and regarding the speedo if i am right the first 86 came with nippon seiki yamaha embossed meter then they localized with pricol and then started naming as " for YAMAHA" ya the for was also in the speedo casing the. I think they made the "ESCORTS" version amd agin back to "YAMAHA"

        Update #
The frame will need about a week as my mechanic is a bit of a perfectionist. But the engine is almost ready to be put back together.
Here are the parts before they were transported for paint. Hurts to see my baby this way. But its necessary.

Hope the pics are visible. First time uploading through tapa talk.
Will upload other photos later through pc
Hi Balgi are you not redoing the hard crome in the engine head ??? And frame are u doing a full sand blast then going for painting? Bcoz i think the loose rust has to be removed and then painted if not the paint will start to peel off than its actual life.

And nice to see a Bajaj M80 frame along with your bike frame going to the painting shop. Still ppl using bajajM80 it has marvellous load caring capacity

MOD NOTE: Please use Multiquote or edit your post. Also do not quote all the pictures in a post, it makes the thread needlessly heavy. Thanks

Oh no bro. The bore head and engine casing comes with buff-silver paint OE so not changing that. In fact on old bikes the norm is to buff the parts instead of painting for chrome like shine. I already did so on my older bike (page 1) and its better for it. I am sand blasting and reinforcing the frame before paint for best results. The rust is the reason am doing it in fact.

Oh the frame is NOT m80 (calling it an m80 is an insult to this bike ) but can't blame you for mistaking as the m80 was in fact a copy of this and a Honda moped. Its a 1968 Pearl Yamaha 75cc (refer page 1 of the thread).

As for the meter, between 1986 Jan and 1986 April it came with nippon seiki Yamaha. After that it came with escorts and then with rajdoot. Mine was August so rajdoot-escorts.

Ya Balgi i understand the engine head comes with buffing but i think buffing is done after hard crome or hardcrome and buffing are one and the same it gives a dull mirrior finish like aluminum finish.

Oops I am sorry, ya i can corelate now wth the yamaha

Ho the meters was changed in such a short span ? Suprising because generaly got localization of parts in India it takes it time and parts like meter has its own evaluvation cycle of endurance test, weatherabily etc .... I will check my 86 paper i dont remember which month is mine cudnt make out frm bike as per your meter timing as there was no meter in the bike when i bought it 😬

No the engine head comes with paint bro. Sort of a zinc coloured paint. Chroming engine head and covers is futile in my opinion as the chrome if not done right starts to peel off within a few weeks due to engine heat. If done right the same thing will happen in a few months but it will happen. Seen it one too many times.
If hard chrome is buffed or rubbed it will just chip off. Chrome needs polish not buffing. So I am getting it buffed not painted as the mirror shine tends to dull to the aluminium finish which is close to the original paint and cheaper too.

Originally RX100 came with Aluminum parts say head, hub with factory buffed. Only the later versions had paint jobs. The buffs on old RX100 looks dull but it required less maintenance. So go get it buffed to keep the originality unless you have other preferences. Cheers!

Nope, no other preference my friend. Getting it buffed. I like the buffed look and its easier to maintain.

This is a perfect example of bad luck. I was hoping the frame and tank would be back from paint by Monday, but my painter's mom passed away.

The work will be delayed well into next week. No updates till then.

                      Sorry guys.

Don't say bad luck. This is usual thing to happen during restoration.. delay... painter gone home etc. I had to switch painter because the former was laying eggs on my parts for a month. Hope he is back soon. One cautious note. I'm not sure of your place/city. Here in chennai one has to keep looking at the work where in progress or stranded. There is every chance that your parts may disappear/displaced/replaced too. I just spent more than 5k on visiting/monitoring these works by hiring call taxi. Everytime I'm promised, every other time I'm deceived too.
Just keep tab on your sundry works around you. If you want to chrome parts, you may do it simultaneously as they don't depend on other work. Unlike painting, first needs to get the rust off either by sandblasting or scrapping off the top layer. Just that we all need little more patience. I have seen in the past, when we try to hurry, we sometimes we compromise the quality of work. I follow the Project Management lessons a bit and in short..Estimate, Delegate, Execute, Monitor .

Yes I agree hurrying work always leads to disastrous results. That is why I am taking it slow and observing all steps. But taking it too slow will result in my restoration taking a whole year so I keep pestering my mechanic. In fact when he gave me the news, I told my dad and the mechanic got a nice anti-rust coating from him (if you know what I mean).

As far as the parts are concerned, I got a list of them made and took pictures of the same. Also I had the mech give me a copy of the list as well and I went to the painter with him. I also visited the painter this morning and he really did loose his mom, but someone from his family should open the shop on Monday, so I will check up then once more.

                          Cheers

To make more constructive to this restoration, let share my thoughts here. I know you already ON the job here, just that we make sure if we are optimizing the time too.

                            1. Engine work - if you either retaining the old crank cases or just clean them up good and use it. You may complete the engine engine rebuild provided you already have the necessary parts in place.

                            2. Paint job - we can have it done in mind of engine and chrome parts jobs

                            3. Check yourself the status of spares and what else required to purchase. See to it, when your mechanic starts to work, you are scouting for missing parts(if not avoidable but try to minimize).

If you want Koyo engine bearings for your ride, I can try.
