It wasn't just the head that was buffed. There were small bits and bobs which were cleaned and buffed which takes some serious patience. That is why I was saying that I can't believe how less it costed.

Re: My Rx100 restoration
Update #10...............
Its coming together nicely. Now with the wheels installed and most of the non essential bits on the bike, all that remains is to fit the engine.
The crank and Cylinder are back from the lathe and the con-rod has been installed nicely (no distinguishable play in it). The cylinder looks very well done and I am told that at the end of this I will have two Cranks and two cylinders (1 of both to spare) so I can Install them in the future if I need to but I doubt that will be needed as the work on the existing original Japanese crank and cylinder is immaculate.
Here is the Cylinder and Crank.............................
And here is the picture of the bike itself with the front end and the wheels installed..................
The levers are from a different Yamaha model for better feedback....................
And here is the tail section with the wheel on..................
Next update post Tuesday.........................

Re: My Rx100 restoration
Update #11 Engine parts and look of the bike..............
Today the crankcase was finally opened to fit the reworked crank. What was seen upon opening the crankcase was pitiful to say the least.
My old mechanic had told me that he replaced the third and fourth gear gearset of my bike as they were worn out but upon opening the crankcase I found out that the gearbox had not been reworked at all, in fact only the shifter was changed and even that was not broken to have to be fixed in the first place. I was cheated and that is that.
Please all xBhp members in Hyderabad, Stay as far away from Sri Ganesh Engine Clinic at Ghasmandi, Audiah bazaar, Secunderabad. The mechanic Named Omkar is a F@#$ing crook.
Anyway Here are the pics....................
I don't know if you can see it in the pics but the part that is shining on the gears are scratches and nicks. They are not big but will cause increased wear and tear in the future if left uncorrected.
Anyway here is the rest of the engine..............
The crankcase at least was undamaged.
Here is the rest of the bike ......................
Well the rest should be up and running by Saturday after which the bike will be left to idle and I should be able to begin the run in by Tuesday.

Re: My Rx100 restoration
Guys please post about what you think of the work done so far. I opened this thread to get suggestions and comments about what is being done to my Rx100. And I would love to have your opinions and views on the same. Also any suggestions about any other work to be carried out will be welcome and highly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: My Rx100 restoration
I didn't know that original seats look this way, most of the 100's I have seen have very thin seats with a hump in the middle. If it is original its better to leave it that wayOriginally posted by Balgi View PostThe seat is of the original design and happens to be immaculate but do you think I should still get it re-upholstered?
Its still in great condition.
And Thanks BTW
If you don't mind could you PM me how much was spent totally to restore this beauty, I was planning to get one and restore, but couldn't find a decent one with all papers, so settled for a semi restored one!

Ah yes the humped one.
That is actually a popular mod but the original comes as a straight seat with no hump.
By Monday I'll be getting the final quote as there is a problem that has crept up. I mentioned the same in my last update (update #11) and so I have to wait until Monday to see if the problem is fixable or not.
I will surely pm you the final quote by Monday night.

I have bought a semi restored one few days back, planning to bring it to good condition with what I have right now (just 5 K).
Changes planned:
New RX100 badge
Have to remove tank cover and past matte vinyl on top of tank, top has lots of scratches from the cover, and vinyl might help avoiding paint fade.
Yamaha badge on crank cover
Saree guard (matte again, doesn't rust)
Rust removal or replacement of exhaust (rust removal is being done(DIY), have to see if it works out)
Polish(DIY)
Upper part of chain guard(paint peeled off)
But first I must make sure that engine and other mechanical components are in good condition, if not will spend the 5 K for mechanical work. Will open a thread if there is no mechanical problem.Biker @ heart

Re: My Rx100 restoration
Best to take the engine off and give it a once over. The cosmetics look fine for now so that can be postponed to later. Right now just concentrate on spending that money on clutch, carb, crank and cylinder kit. Buy new packing for the whole engine if you're gonna open the bike up. best not to have leaks creeping up later. And do check the autolube, If its in good shape you'll never need to add oil to the petrol ever.Originally posted by giridhar View PostThought that was how it would look! thanks for the clarification
