Two stroke oil

Guys can anybody comment on how the flash point contributes to the goodness of a 2 stroke engine oil? I have gone through so many threads and everybody raves about how a high flash point oil is better than a low flash point oil but nobody corroborates this claim. Can anybody shed some light?RIP ਕਾਕਾ ਭੈਣੀਆਂਵਾਲਾ (Santokh Singh Rataurh)

Flash point is the minimum temperature(of the oil) in which the vapor of the oil can be ignited!!the ignition is considered from a different source and not auto ignition!! you can find the easy answers by googling as all here do!! but still if you really want to know the concept of flash point and fire point > you can find it by doing a diesel heating test!Originally posted by dafc View PostGuys can anybody comment on how the flash point contributes to the goodness of a 2 stroke engine oil? 1.heat diesel(very few quantity) in a metal vessel (or some bowl,i don know to name it
)
2.after certain time, you can find some vapor coming from diesel negligibly!
3.now try igniting the vapor ( not the diesel liquid directly) it with normal match stick!!
4.at certain point you can find a spark or a flash of fire due to burning of vapors!! this flash instantly goes off!! it will not hold !! this is FLASH point!!!
5.if you further heat it and try to ignite the vapor you can find at certain point the vapors getting burned and i wont stop even the match stick goes off!! this is fire point !!
I asked to do this test on diesel because you cant really heat the engine oil to it flash temperature since it will take long time and requires strong heat source!! also diesel has a very good flash and fire point difference !! so you can learn it easily!!
P.S> be cautious!! again take little of diesel and not more than 100ml max!!
Normally in engines heat is highly developed by friction of gears and the oil is the one which helps in dissipating heat and lubricating gears!!if low flash point oils is used it will/tend to burn in some temperature which leads to improper lubrication and heat dissipation!! now since high flash point oil's dont get ignited easily they are better in performance!!hope you understood the concept!!Last edited by dpak89; 04-26-2011, 11:16 AM.Rx is a Phoenix!!! Bet your googling didn't reveal how mineral oil behaves at flash ploint lol and please try to fathom the question properly I didn't ask for the flash point test I just wanted to know how can one judge the goodness of 2t oil from the flash point value given the DS.Last edited by dafc; 04-26-2011, 10:05 PM.RIP ਕਾਕਾ ਭੈਣੀਆਂਵਾਲਾ (Santokh Singh Rataurh)

brother!! mineral oils have less flash point than synthetic or other oils! so it naturally behaves a bit bad when compared to synthetic!!and also depending on the flash point alone you can't judge the quality or behavior of oil!! Flash point can be increased by adding certain additives to oils(which many companies have done) !! but that would hamper its performance in some other area. so yea if the flash point is high then thats a good oil provided it has a good rating in JASO or ISO(C or above) !!Originally posted by dafc View PostBet your googling didn't reveal how mineral oil behaves at flash ploint lol and please try to fathom the question properly I didn't ask for the flash point test I just wanted to know how can one judge the goodness of 2t oil from the flash point value given the DS.
i have heard that Flash point above 150' C is a good bet for mineral based oils.dunno abt the value of yamalube or motul!!

though motomix has a flash point of 100'c i've heard motul 510 is better!! have'nt tested either!! that's why i said with only flash point the oil's quality cant be decided!!Originally posted by dafc View PostMotomix has it's flashpoint at 100c whereas 510 does a 92cRx is a Phoenix!!! My friends abroad suggested for 'elf Moto 2T Power' for my RX100.
And recently I have received 1 ltr can of 'elf Moto 2T Power' + 'elf MAX BOOSTER' from Singapore.

elf 2T moto is one of the better oils in the market. Semi synth and dirt cheap.
If you're getting some oil from Singapore you should have got a can of A747 :| whatever elf you get there is crap, I used to use Castrol R2 for a year and then switched to Motul 710.Yamaha RX165 5-Speed

hmmm here is the list :
Agip 2T has fully synth oil that cost 500 bucks a liter . Great oil
Petronas 2T also available in fully synth i think that works out to around 400 bucks a pop
The best amongst the synths is definitely Motul 800 - cost varies between 650 to 750 depending on dealer and availability.
Used to be pretty anal about the kind of oil i use - dont really care anymore - Shell Semi Synth is actually crap - though i used to believe otherwise.
I run premix and that is the safest and best oil delivery system there is - make sure you dont shut the throttle on premix.
I run bunk oil now LOL ( sashays of mak2t- which is pretty good ) - i run a little more than usually recommended for a liter - adding a little bit of syth when it gonna see some hard abuse - that works out very economical and safer too. Done the whole running around and carrying 2T oil ranging from elf to shell to wat not. Elf smells sweet - run whatever works best for you.
