Manali to Mandi is around 100 and Mandi to Delhi is 400+

Also, June 3 looks too hectic, Pan gong deserve more time. You can also do Marsemik La next day if you stay back at Pangong. Marsemik La is highest motorable road and much tougher than Khardung La.

To test yourself and your bike there are many challenging things in Leh/Ladakh. The current plan of yours is the minimal itenary of Leh

    But anyways enjoy the ride
oh yes, i made a small mistake in the plan. rechecked the distances again. planning to do Manali - Chandigarh as you said and then instead of taking a night at New Delhi, will do Chandigarh - Gwalior. good idea? that way i can save a day.

will plan to stay at Pangong Tso and do Marsemik La. btw, how far is Marsemik La from Pangong Tso?

also, Rachit suggested me that Drass-Leh road is amazing and can be covered in a day easily. so no need to halt at Khalsi. so another day saved.

will upload the changed plan again

Ya bypassing Delhi sounds good to me.
its approx 100 kms to and fro but I heard from veterans that Indo Tibetian police Force(ITPF) will not allow you to scale M La in noon as its a difficult one and rugged so start in the morning only.
You need to specifically mention Marsemik La in permit.

thanks for the info man. if we plan on going there, we will surely go there in the morning. but, after a night stay at Pangong Tso, we will visit Marsemik La early in the morning. But is it possible to get to Leh after visiting Marsemik La from Pangong Tso?

also, what all permits do i need? and what do i need to get permits? whats the timing for permit office? i believe that its open from monday to friday. but what time?

              Reposting from the 2010 thread:

              Guys,

Probably my first post here. I am planning to travel from Blore to Leh in July [Mid june to early july is the window, m ostly 19th to 4th so we can maximum utilize the weekends.]. Am from blore obviously. Anyone have any similar plans???

I was thinking of actually taking the bike in train upto delhi and on the way back, ride all the way over to blore. That could save sometime.

              Any similar riders around??

I have had 2 guys (speakfree2mk & Jayakrishna) post there that they are interested. Let me PM them and lets see if can get this rolling.

              Anybodyelse wanna join??

                  getting leh'd

I am also interested in getting Leh'd in 2011. I am having not getting too many holidays at work. The max I am being able to take off is 10 official working days and combined with 3 weekends the total no of days is coming to 16 days. Is that enough for a trip to Leh and back??

BTW I plan to parcel the bike to Delhi and then ride from there due to time constraint.

My tentative trip dates are June 18th to July 3rd. I am willing to prepone or postpone the dates by one week, depending on the weather and road conditions. I really do not want to ride in the rains. So do advice me if my plans are feasible or not.

Hey guys, was going through an article on internet regarding POI in Himachal Pradesh. Found this information.

Himachal has border with Ladakh and Tibet and some area like Spiti valleys as well as Kinnaur district which was restricted for foreigner until 1991 but now foreign tourists can visit these area with permission from District Magistrates at Shimla,(Kinnaur at Kalpa),Lahaul & Spiti at Keylong, Kullu and Chamba.Sub Divisional Magistrate at Shimla, Rampur, Nichar, Kalpa, Puh,Kaza, Udaipur, Killar, Tissa,Chamba and Bharmaur. It had broadly been decided that the inner line would run 40km to the west of the Tibet border Kaza the principal city of Spiti, would be treatedas out side the inner circle. How ever foreign tourists would not be allowed overnight stay at Puh - Khabo - Sumdo - Dankar - Gompa - Tabo and Moorang-dubling routes and could enter the area only in groups of four or more. The check posts set up at Lipakhad and Tabo to monitor the movement of foreign tourists

My question to all the experts here is,
Are there accommodation options available in Puh/Poo? Or is it a better idea to stay over at Spello?

Kurtrules, Kashif, Biru... Kindly throw some light.

Nitin, Initially I thought of planning a stay over at Nako but then looking the time at hand and distance I considered Puh or Spello as night stay option. Will there be accommodation available at either of the two places?

arre nako-pooh is 2 hours max ,so you are better off in staying at nako.

also stay at nako is much worthwhile experience.get up in morning, visit the monastry & the lake & head off wherever you wish to go.

mail your rough plan to me & MG & we can suggest based on that.

                              also mailing you ramky maps.
