I think Rookieraj has a valid point. There is no fun staying in Pahalgam if you reach there at night and leave early in the morning. It is better to stay in Srinagar. You will also have more (read cheaper) staying options.

If you need any help regarding anything in and around Srinagar, I will be more than happy to help.
      Hi Mohsin,

You are right; S'nagar is a better bet. We would stay in S'nagar.

Will write to you for help if our options do not work.

                Hi Friend,
I have got my train ticket according to dates and train mention by Manish. Obviously not March which is a typo but for June.
Any of you have got yours? I am one step closer to the trip. Now I have to apply for my leave.
I'll need some help on buying saddle and tank bags. I heard Cramsters are good. Can any one help me getting those for my R15? I need to know the exact model and the place to buy. I can buy it from Pune or Mumbai.

Yes, as per the original plan. But feedback from past tourers indicated that it would be more suitable to hit the Leh - Manali stretch in the 2nd week of June to ensure open passes.

Thanks Maneesh and congratulations on your tickets.
Can any one recommend the size and model of the bags for R15? I guess there are different bag sizes available. I am not in the country and relying on some one else to buy for me. I need to provide him the proper model.

                        Hi Henry,

In Cramster, there is only one size. You will need to tell your buyer to pick up the one for the upturned exhaust bikes eg Pulsars, etc and NOT the one for the horizontal exhaust bikes eg Bullets.

In fact, there are two different ones.
Stallion(for bikes with straight exhaust) and Colt(normally for bikes with upswept exhaust) .
What he will need is Colt.

                          Sorry for a bit OT.
@hensil: I might be selling the Colt that I picked up before my ride in 2011, have used it for two rides. Its slightly damaged. (Can share the pics, if interested).

Well, I meant the same.i.e. there aren't two sizes for of the Stallion or the Colt. The same size has been modded for the different exhaust placements.

@ Henry. One interesting input here, Henry. Last morning, I was out for a meeting with Neville Shroff and Shubham Jain, tow of the foursome from Mum-Pune. We were checking out some alternatives for the third, pillion-mounted duffle bag and we came across a bag which, if joined to another identical one, would prove to be a superb, larger alternative to the slightly cramped Cramster one. In fact, I rued my decision to purchase a Cramster set when I saw this bag. The cost factor too was irresistible- this one was Rs 595/- per piece. Two together would be Rs 1190/- plus say Rs 200/- for stitching them together. And this bag was quite water resistant too. In fact, with this set, one would not need a duffle bag at all; they are that spacious. A point to ponder, if you intend to carry more stuff...

                              Maneesh,
Are you also looking for motorbike bags? My problem is I cannot make any decision without seeing them. Can you do me a favor by selecting the saddle bags for me? I leave my decision to you, it can be any brand, any cost. I know you'll make a proper choice.
I'll also need the tank bag. I can wire, transfer the money to you any time.
If this is any inconvenience to you then I'll ask someone else.
My problem is, I am reaching India just a day before we board the train.
                              Thanks.

@Maneesh: Where did you see this bag? Please give more details, and I shall head there soon and check the bag out! Getting more space in the bag for lesser money is a win-win. Only concerned about whether it will be rugged enough if we buy 2 of these bags and stitch them together.
