    Hi K60,

I saw this bag at the Pune railway station, one of the shops next to the flyover.

      IceMan,

Many people believe Manali-Leh is more beautiful than Srinagar - Leh
(also heard its a bit tuff too on bikes and Rider's health )

      How Different are they ?
What difference does it make when reaching Leh ?

      Thanks,
      Pradeep

        Dear Pradeep,

The route from Srinagar to Leh has three distinct phases. The first is from Jammu to the Jawahar tunnel comprising the low hills of Jammu. Immediately through Jawahar, one enters the unique terrain of the Kashmir valley which is the second. The third is when one crosses the Zoji La to enter Ladakh. So, enroute, one sees the landscape change from low-lying hills to pine covered slopes to naked jagged peaks. Consequently, this route is a true microcosm of the Kashmir region.

In contrast, the Manali route is definitely more stark; right after Manali, one goes through typical Ladakhi terrain.

So, if one desires to see both types, it is recommended to go up via Srinagar and come down via Manali. The benefits of a gradual altitude increase with concomitant benefits in aclimatisation, better roads to accustom the newbie rider to the mountains and plentiful accommodation all combine to make this route preferable.

Therefore, I beg to disagree with the proposed views. One trip along the Srinagar route will change the opinion for ever!

My Suggestion is to go with a Saddle bag from cramster, get a colt version if you dont have a RE- Bullet

Get a tank bag from cramster which is a direct fit on all bikes.

if your bike is FZ then you will have to tie the tank bank with a rope around the tank (there are hooks provided in the tankbag)

Make sure you have essential luggage and go with minimalistic approach as there will be some real off roading stuff.

I hope you do have the Leh-Manali route in your itinerary(as in - srinagar - leh --other places-manali-delhi etc). Its unmissable. Personally for me, manali - leh was a far more awe-inspiring and humbling experience than the srinagar - leh route.

                • Hi - Leh June 2012.

Hi Maneesh and all tourers on June 2012 Leh trip.
I read your poa, for June, and wanted to be a part of the trip,
however I was very late in reading.
However even by June if things work out for me, I would join in.
I would prefer to ride all the way from Mumbai and back, but at the
moment I have not been able to get hold of my bike and other stuff.
However I will try my level best to do so. If not then all the best wishes
to the entire group. Also pay my heartfelt "Respects to the Martyrs" on
                  my behalf.
                  A. A. Raaz.

                    Hello aatifs,

I have the Cramster saddle and tank bags plus a normal, small bag which I will bungee onto the pillion, that's all. Also, I will carry a collapsible bag in which to stuff the riding clothes on the onward and return journey.

                      Hello prads,

You are welcome and thank you for the kind appreciation. You will do true justice to the spirit of biking if you go via the Srinagar route. And you will want to return every year, it is so beautiful. Why go to Switzerland when Paradise is here, is here, is here...

                        Hello Mik,

Our return trip is via Manali so we get to see three unique type of terrain - the Dhauladhar, the Zanskar and the Greater Himalayas.

Yes, Manali - Leh is like a wood rose while Srinagar - Leh is like a normal rose. I am sure you will figure out the similarities as well as the differences

                          Hello Raaz,

If you intend to ride all the way, you could write to hoodwind; he has a thread for the same here.

I shall pay respects on your behalf too.

Thanks for your motivation. And you will do the ride some time, I am sure!
